The Rebellious Omega -
Chapter 128
King Braedon POV
"If you take us back they'll only make us breeders again," she said sadly.
I shook my head, narrowing my eyes. "Your Alpha and Luna are dead by my hand," I said clearly and heard all of the women gasp in shock, their eyes darting to each other as they began to silently communicate "The breeding program was made illegal months ago and they suffered a grave price for disobeying the law. Can anyone tell me what pack you were being transferred to?" I asked, half hoping one of the girls might have overheard where they were being taken to.
The girls all looked at each other and shook their heads looking apologetic. "They never told us. Two of the men got away though, maybe they might be able to tell you" one said, her voice barely above a whisper, fearful of my reaction.
I sighed. I mind-linked two men to begin tracking the two men that had run off but their scent was long gone and I didn't hold off much hope they would be found. I began to motion toward the men "My men won't harm you" I promised them but the girls all looked back at my mate's wolf who was sleeping soundly, their expressions filled with concern for Blair. "Will she be okay? She saved our lives" one breathed, looking worried.
All of the girls nodded. I gave them a reassuring smile "I am certain she will be fine. I'll have a medical professional look her over, but I suspect it's the strain of shifting for the first time and exhaustion that's merely making her sleep just now. I will let her know that you were worried for her" I told them and they looked relieved.
I was touched by how concerned they were about Blair. The girls began to slowly slink towards my warriors who waited patiently, beginning to sort themselves out without protest and in an organized manner. I appreciated it as I knelt next to my mate, Two warriors coming forward to speak to me.
"What are your orders?" one asked grimly.
I glanced at him. "Bring back two doctors from our pack. One for Blair and one for the Silver Fog Pack. I want ones I can trust. I will stay here with Blair until she wakens."
"That could take hours your Highness, at least allow one of us to stay with you" protested Baxter.
I grimaced. I was more than prepared to defend my mate as she was vulnerable while asleep but I saw the sense in their words. "Buster you stay, Baxter you go" I instructed "Also inform James that I want him at the Silver Fog Pack as well to help with the transition and bring the pack up to standards."
"Oh and Baxter, Buster," I said with a slow smile, turning to them as they looked at me questioningly "It's long been on my mind that the pack needs a gamma."
They looked a little bewildered about where the conversation was heading but nodded in agreement. I gave them a beaming smile "Well you're my most trusted warriors besides the Beta. I hereby grant you Buster and Baxter, the position of Gamma. I hope you don't mind sharing it" I said blithely and watched their mouths drop wide open in shock. For a moment there was nothing but silence. Baxter was flabbergasted and Buster's mouth kept opening and closing like a gaping fish. "Your Highness, are you sure?" Baxter finally stammered "The position of gamma should go to somebody deserving" he continued and I put up a hand stopping him in his tracks when he continued to protest, my eyes narrowing. "I can't think of anyone more deserving than you and your brother Buster," I said quietly, watching both brother's eyes begin to shine "You have shown me loyalty, my mate kindness and I trust you both. That is all I require. Now please, Baxter go back to Silver Fog Pack. Once James leaves you are in charge until I'm back" I told him and saw him look at me stunned before he nodded, stumbling to his car and looking as though he'd been knocked over by a truck. I fought back my laughter.
Buster just continued to gape. I wondered how long it would take until he got his voice back as I settled myself comfortably next to Dusk and leaned against her, feeling the warmth of her fur against my back, and closed my eyes, feeling content just being by her side once again. Thank goodness she was okay and unharmed.
"Sir, I can't thank you enough" Buster began to stammer and I gave a short bark of laughter.
"Buster, please, no more thank you's," I told him with amusement "Just say you accept the position already," I said with a grin.
"I accept," he said lowly, bowing his head.
I chuckled and felt the wind caress my skin. The cars began to slowly back away and reverse, peeling out one by one. Finally, only two cars were left, my own and the one that Buster had bought. I toyed with my phone, deciding that it could take hours before my poor mate was recovered enough that she would be able to return to human form. I was prepared to spend all night out here if necessary. But as I leaned against her, I could feel the tingles of the mate bond, my hand resting on top of her, cuddling her close. I could hear her heartbeat and her not-so-soft snoring. Her eyes shot open and she began to climb to her feet.
"Lie back down," I told her gently as she swayed "Blair, Dusk, you're not recovered yet" I added as she blinked "You need sleep."
She hesitated, her wolf form stumbling as Buster got to his feet and backed away, and then with a large amount of cracking noises, I caught Blair's naked form in my arms as she fell into them, her long hair sweeping over my shoulders as she looked up at me, her face wan and pale. "Blair" I whispered as she reached up a trembling hand and cupped my cheek "Foolish woman" I added lovingly as I hoisted her up into my arms and cradled her against my chest, glaring at Buster who hastily turned his head so he wasn't looking at my mate, "you never know when to quit do you?" I asked.
She yawned, resting her head against my shoulder as I started for the car, her eyelids beginning to flutter "Buster and Baxter make an excellent Gamma, Dusk says you made a great choice in choosing them" she murmured drowsily as I shook my head and began to place her down in the backseat, lying down.
"Sleep" I instructed, climbing into the driver's seat as Buster got back into his car "Looks like we're going back to the Silver Fog Pack after all" I added with resignation.
Sometimes my mate was too stubborn for her own good. I couldn't believe she'd managed to shift back to human form so quickly, even if she was pretty much snoring away in the backseat again. Just how strong was her wolf and in comparison to her human side, how stubborn was Dusk going to prove to be?
