Chapter 1

I sat in front of the vanity in my room, staring at my reflection in the mirror. Tears threatened to spill over as I thought about my marriage to Lucian, my Alpha Who would have thought that marriage would turn out to be this way?

It’s been two years since Lucian and I got married, and it’s like our love has been lost in the passage of time. All that was left was a shell of what we once had, shattered by the fact that I hadn’t been able to give Lucian the one thing he desires above all else: an heir.

Lucian had become cold and distant towards me, treating me like a failure because I haven’t fulfilled my role as his mate. I could feel the love we once shared sl*pping away, and it was like I didn’t even recognize him anymore.

I couldn’t help but wonder where the warm and loving Alpha I married had gone. I had always thought that our love was strong enough to overcome any obstacle, but now I wasn’t so sure. The thought of losing Lucian was devastating, and I didn’t know what to do to save our marriage.

As a werewolf, I knew the importance of having an heir to continue the pack line. But what good is that if it meant sacrificing the love that we once had?

I let out a deep sigh as the tears finally spilled over and ran down my cheeks. I just wanted to go back to the way things were before, when love was the only thing that mattered.

Suddenly, I heard Lucian’s footsteps approaching, I quickly wiped away my tears. I couldn’t let him see me like this.

I turned to face the door as he entered the room, his sharp eyes scanning the area before settling on me. “Luna,” he said in his deep, commanding voice. “Where have you been all day?”

I took a deep breath and tried to compose myself, standing up straight. “I-I went for a walk, Alpha,” I stammered.

Lucian raised an eyebrow, clearly skeptical. “A walk, you say? All day?”

I nodded, avoiding his gaze. “Yes, I needed some fresh air and time to think,” I explained, trying to keep my voice steady.

Lucian took a step closer to me, his eyes studying my face. “Is everything alright, Luna?” he asked, his tone softening slightly.

1 hesitated for a moment before nodding.

“Yes, everything is fine,” I lied.

I could tell that he wasn’t convinced, but he didn’t press the matter further. “Very well,” he said. The next words that came out from his mouth struck

me.

“Lyra is pregnant,” he said, his eyes never leaving mine.

I was taken aback by his announcement. Lyra was my best friend, but I didn’t understand why he was telling me this. “That’s nice,” I said, trying to hide my confusion. “For who?”

Lucian’s eyes narrowed as he cut me off. “You’re the weakest among us, Nadia, but you’re not dumb,” he said sternly. “Lyra is giving me an heir.”

The words hit me like a ton of bricks, and I felt my knees buckle beneath me. I couldn’t believe what I was hearing. Lyra was going to have a baby, and it was going to be Lucian’s child. I felt a mix of emotions, including jealousy, anger, and sadness.

Lucian watched me closely, his eyes never leaving mine. “Do you. understand what this means, Luna?” he asked. “The pack needs an heir, and Lyra will provide it.”

I couldn’t believe the words that came out of his mouth. I unconsciously raised my voice as I confronted him, my hands shaking with anger and hurt. “Why are you hurting me like this?” I demanded. “How could you do this to us?”

Lucian’s expression was unreadable, he didn’t say anything for a long moment, and the silence between us felt like it was stretching on forever.

Finally, he spoke. “I didn’t mean for this to happen, Luna,” he said, his

voice soft. “I never wanted to hurt you. But Lyra and I, we have a

connection, a bond that I can’t ignore. And now she’s carrying my child.”

“How could you be with her when you claim you love me?” I asked, my voice choking on s obs.

“I never wanted to have to choose between the two of you. But now, I have to do what’s best for my child and the pack.”

“We have a ceremony in an hour to celebrate the arrival of my new heir with Lyra. I need you to be there.” He continued.

I flinched at the force in his voice, feeling the pressure of my pack rank weighing down on me. As his Luna, I was expected to follow his commands without question. But this felt different.

“I’m not going,” I said, my voice firm. “I will not stand by your side and pretend to be happy about this.

Lucian’s eyes narrowed, his wolf sensing the hostility in my tone. But I stood my ground, my determination to not play along with his charade unwavering.

“You will be there,” he growled. “As my mate and Luna, it is your duty to stand by my side, no matter what.”

“And what if I don’t come?” I questioned him.

“Luna,” he growled, his eyes piercing into mine. “You have no choice. This is an order!”

He didn’t utter a single word after that. Instead, he simply turned and left the door slamming shut behind him.

As Lucian left, slamming the door shut behind him, I let out a deep sigh.. was torn between my duty as Luna and his betrayal. I couldn’t let anyone. laugh at me for not giving Lucian an heir.

Just as I was lost in thought, there was a knock at the door. My heart sank, thinking it might be Lucian returning to demand my presence at the ceremony. But as I walked to the door, I was shocked to see none other

than Lyra, Lucian’s mistress, standing on the other side.

“What do you want?” I asked, trying to keep my voice steady.

Lyra’s smile was thin and tight. “I just wanted to come and check on you,” she said. “I know the news of the ceremony and the new heir must be difficult for you to handle.”

I raised an eyebrow, disbelief etched on my face. “Difficult? This is betrayal,” I spat out.

Betrayal coursed through my veins like a hot, toxic poison. How could my best friend have slept with my Alpha? How could she have betrayed me like this?

Just as I was about to turn back into my room, Lyra spun around and faced. me, her expression cruel.

Oh, and by the way,” she sneered. “You can never give Lucian an heir.

You’re barren.”

The words hit me like a physical blow, taking my breath away. I stumbled back, my hand flying to my chest as if I could physically push the pain

away.

“How dare you?” I whispered, my voice shaking. “How dare you throw that in my face?”

Lyra shrugged, a satisfied smirk on her face. “It’s the truth, Nadia,” she said. “Lucian deserves a mate who can give him a proper heir. And clearly, that’s not you.”

I stood there, feeling the weight of her words crushing down on me. How could she say such cruel things? How could she hurt me like this?

“Come on, Nadia,” Lyra said, her voice tinged with annoyance. “The least you could do is come to the ceremony and celebrate the new heir. After all, you are Luna.”

I stood in my room, staring at her with disbelief. How could she expect me to be happy for her and Lucian after what they had done?

Chapter 1

“I can’t celebrate such betrayal,” I said, my voice tight with anger. “I cannot pretend to be happy.”

Lyra sighed and rolled her eyes. “Well, that’s too bad,” she said. “Because you’re meant to be. You’re meant to be happy that he’s finally getting what he wants- an heir.”

1 felt a surge of anger, and I took a step forward. “You don’t love him,” I said. “You’re just using him for power.”

Lyra let out a cruel laugh. “Oh, please,” she said. “Love has nothing to do with i it. I want what’s best for the pack, and an heir will ensure the continuation of our line. And who knows? Maybe he’ll also make me his. Luna.

She stood in front of me with a wicked smile on her face. Her hazel eyes sparkled with mischief.

“What’s wrong, Nadia? Are you afraid of a little teasing?” she taunted, her voice dripping with sarcasm.

I bared my teeth and growled, my eyes locked onto hers. I could feel my wolf stirring inside me, eager to lunge at her and put her in her place.

Lyra’s smile only widened as she continued to taunt me. “Come on, Nadia, we all know you’re the weakest in our pack, show me what you’ve got. You can’t just stand there like a frightened little pup.”

I couldn’t take it anymore. With a roar, I charged at her, my claws extended and my teeth bared. But Lyra was too quick for me. She darted. out of the way, laughing wickedly as I stumbled and fell to the ground.

I snarled and tried to stand up, but Lyra was already in front of me, her face only inches away from mine. “Don’t worry, Nadia,” she whispered, her breath hot against my face. “I’ll always be one step ahead of you.”

Lyra threw her head back and laughed, a sound that sent shivers down my spine. It was a wicked, malicious laugh, one that made me feel small and insignificant.

She turned to leave, but not before throwing one last insult my way.

“You’re just jealous because you can never give him what he wants,” she said, a smirk on her face. “You’ll always be the Luna without an heir. Pathetic.
