The Reckoning of Love Chapter 11
Chapter 11 If I Get Pregnant, Would You Want This Child?
“Oh, cut it out!” Celeste was slightly flustered when faced with her employees’ inquiries. “I’ll introduce my husband to you guys when I have the chance. Please don’t ask any more questions!” After all, Celeste barely knew the man herself. All she knew was that his name was Julian Meister. He had a residence in Lilies Lakes and a grandfather who adored him—that was it. In the evening, Celeste left the Fairytale Cottage and took a bus back to Lilies Lakes. She guessed that Edmond wouldn’t come over that night, and Julian surely had something to talk to her about, and she believed he should be prepared by now, considering she had given him a whole day. Sure enough, he was home when she returned. However, she wondered if he had left home at all during the time she was away. Julian didn’t ask where she had been either when he saw her, nor did he scold her for not notifying him before leaving. Instead of saying he had no temper, it was more like he didn’t care at all. After almost an hour since she returned, Julian still hadn’t approached her. That surprised Celeste. Since she wanted to ease her mind sooner, she approached him instead. “Julian, did you not draft a prenuptial or postnuptial agreement?” Julian was taken aback, surprised by her question. “No. I have no intention of getting divorced,” he said while looking at the young woman’s puzzled, sincere gaze before turning to his study, leaving her standing dazedly on the spot as she watched his towering figure. She wondered all day what sort of outrageous clauses he would make her sign. After all, he was familiar with her far-from-decent family background, and everyone would assume she married him for the money. But who’d have thought he had no intentions of forcing her to sign any unfair contracts?! Well, Mr. Meister sure is a breath of fresh air in the realm of hasty marriages! That night, as Celeste drifted off to sleep, Julian emerged from his study and climbed into her bed—correction, his own bed—to get intimate with her in a state of absolute rationality. It genuinely startled Celeste. “You—” Her body tensed up as she stared at him, her eyes widening. In the dim light, his handsome face with well-defined features looked cold and charming. He was really good-looking. “I am your husband,” the man said in a husky voice, his warm breath brushing against her nose while his eyes twinkled with profound interest. “The legally recognized kind.” Celeste frowned in response. Instincts told her that she couldn’t escape tonight. “Do you want this child if I get pregnant?” she asked while pressing her hands against his chest, her dark eyes gleaming with panic and seriousness. Her luscious hair and delicate face distracted the man momentarily. It suddenly hit him why he didn’t hate her. She shared some resemblance with Natalia. At the thought of the latter, Julian’s heart twinged again. Meanwhile, Celeste continued to gaze at the man’s profound eyes, waiting for his answer. “Of course, I do,” Julian answered definitively. He then added, “Boy or girl, they’re the successor of the Meister Family.” What was more, Edmond was still hoping to hold a great-grandchild in his arms! At that, Julian kissed her. Celeste was clear-headed this time, so it was inevitable that she would get nervous. The lighting in the room was dim, and moonlight from outside cast onto the bed while romantic ambiguity laced the air. She knew this was her duty as a wife. She wanted a guy she could spend the last remaining years of her life with, and she had no intention of divorcing either. If they had a child who could bind them together, then their marriage would be even stronger. After all, the two would have a common goal. The following morning, Julian got up bright and early, for he had business to attend to. Celeste would always inevitably blush bashfully when he changed in front of her by the bed, especially when she had an unobstructed view of his tanned skin and defined abs. Since he had saved her and her mother, she intended to thank him. However, he got physical with her as well. Thus, she couldn’t bring herself to thank him anymore. “Julian, is the injury on your left arm a burn mark?” Celeste asked warily while hiding under the covers, only revealing her head. “It’s for me to know and you to replace out,” Julian answered with a frown, clearly not something he’d like to talk about. Later, he placed a bank card on the bedside table and spoke softly. “This card is for you. The PIN is the last six digits. Use it as you wish.” “What do you mean?” Celeste mumbled, blinking innocently. Julian paused and turned his gaze toward her, his eyes cold and indifferent. She suppressed the desire to laugh and deliberately teased him, asking, “Are you saying I can use it freely for grocery shopping, or can I use it freely to buy houses and cars?”
