The Secret Island
CHAPTER 37 The Promise

Both of them tirelessly got themselves back to the yacht. We were practically in the middle of nowhere amidst clear water. Martin couldn't believe how much fun he had with just scuba diving and exploring the area. There was a beautiful cave that we swam to and spent a few hours there. It was as if swimming in Atlantis. And when we swam out of the cave, it was already dark out.

The yacht essentially had everything we needed. We showered and got changed. Celine got some food and champagne out to the yacht deck. She said we could watch the sunset together here.

"So, it's the end of the day already. Time flies..." She mumbled to herself as we sat quietly together. The unspoken words between the lines were too obvious and too painful to utter without hurting us.

Our two weeks together are nearly over.

Celine told him that she was leaving tomorrow evening. And he had no confidence in himself to endure the agony of seeing her walking away from our villa and his life to living her life-the life in the world she was used to before meeting him. And he was clueless as to when we could see each other again.

No matter how much he tried, he was not certain when he could see her again.

"I will try not to feel lonely." She held his hand. Her hand was warm, just like her.

"Martin, I don't want any birthday gift this year because I want to as a favor from you, just one wish, can I ask something from you?"

"And what is that favor?"

"What is my chance of you saying yes?" He had never been a man who gave a blank check, Martin hesitated, but in the end, he nodded. Her eyes could make him weak. He couldn't say any outright no.

Celine smiled. She looked at her hands as if deciding something. He couldn't read her expression. She smiled slightly. But he couldn't tell what she was feeling.

After a period of silence, Celine looked into his eyes-the look in her eyes clearly indicated that she was... begging him.

"After I leave, if possible, if you can fix whatever problems you've told me, if you succeed...can we see each other again? Can you...come back to me?"

"

"I'm aware you can't promise anything. But forgive me for wishing for the impossible. I couldn't help myself. This is all I ask. Only this. Please, Martin. Please. Do it for me. Come back to me."

"I don't know how long it takes to resolve all the problems. It's complicated. And I have no control over anything."

"I can wait. No matter if it will take months or years, I can wait. You only have to say you will come back. I will wait...." He hadn't responded much, but she was pleading. "Celine..."

It was at that time he detested himself.

He despised not being able to give her any certain answer and still wanted to keep her close. But one hand, he wanted to let her go, to liberate her from any shackle of this relationship, to let her meet someone that could love her more than him and make her happy. However, the image in his head broke his heart into pieces.

"Don't give me a pitiful look! Martin, no! I told you I could wait. If it takes years, then I will visit this island every year, this time of the year. How about that? Please, Martin, I beg you, say something...don't be quiet like this."

Her husky voice began to tremble. He made her cry again.

He made the woman he loved cry again....

"...."

And Martin had decided.

He had been too cruel to live with his uncertainty for way too long.

If luck was on his side and everything went according to plan.

If that day had come and she still loved him...

He decided.

He answered by kissing her. He comforted her through his kiss. He controlled his touch to be as tender as possible. Celine immediately flung herself into his arms.

Martin broke away from the kiss. He needed to give her his answer. He found out his voice was also trembling and emotional.

"I don't know how long it will be...but...wait for me...wait for this silly man...."

Her arms held him tighter. She was no longer his presence. She had become so much more, so much more than that.

"...once everything is resolved, I will come back to you...."

Her sorrow started to show a glint of hope. Her eyes brimmed with tears. And finally, he said the phrase she wanted to hear the most.

"I promise."

Celine pulled him closer and kissed him to solidify that promise.

She kissed him longingly. The girl in his arms teased his lips for a long time, and when she pulled away. What Martin saw in those eyes woke up his instinct of what she desired from him. The desire that changed our relationship forever.

Her shaky hand slipped under his shirt. Martin took a deep breath as her warm hands touched his skin.

The two of us passed the point of having to explicitly ask for these things from each other. Our time was counting down from days to one night. And soon, there were only a few hours left.

We lunged ourselves into a large soft bed under the yacht and hurriedly took off our clothes, piece by piece, the temperature in the room rose by the minutes.

No one said anything. Heaving sounds were heard between wet kisses. Martin replaced those unnecessary words with his lips imprinted across the naked body of the woman he loved.

The other sound getting louder was our hearts that beat faster and faster from the raging emotions, followed by the sweet moan once he entered her. He could barely control himself. He didn't want to hurt her, but he also wanted her more than he could imagine. His hip moved rhythmically, and she moaned loudly. His hand was fondling her breast, and his lip moved to her neck. He was a drowning man in this boiling ocean of need.

He lost control.

He quickened the pace until Celine screamed. And he soon followed. It took him a long time to come to his senses. Still on top of her, Martin turned to look at Celine's face-the image of her before his eyes rendered him speechless. Dazed,

Celine looked up at him and smiled. In that split moment, he swore he had never seen anyone more beautiful. Her face glowed with sweat, and her flushed cheeks hypnotized him to stare for a long while. And the first thought that came across his mind was the whole life that he wanted to give her even though it was just a fantasy.

He couldn't confess his love, but he had his promise, and we shared this moment.

He kissed her soft lips again.

One day...I will give you more than this. I will erase all the loneliness and hopelessness you have felt.

One day...I will give you everything I can give.

For you, my love, my presence, and my future. Dear you...

One day...I will give you all my time...only you.
