The Slave of Pleasure -
Chapter 116
Rachel
The trip back to Italy had been intense, but nothing could have prepared me for what I would replace when I arrived at the Morette mansion. Each step I took toward the entrance was like crossing a portal into a reality where everything was heavier, more dangerous. The air around me seemed to carry the weight of unspeakable secrets, and I felt a chill creep up my spine, despite the heat of the day. Nancy, beside me, was impassive, almost admiring the scenery like a tourist at a historical site.
"This is more impressive than I imagined, Rachel," she said, taking in the mansion's enormous façade. "It's not every day you see something like this, you know?"
"Nancy, this isn't a tour," I replied, the tension evident in my voice.
Before she could respond, a group of security guards appeared around us. Tall men, impeccably dressed in black suits, who looked like they had stepped out of a mafia movie. The security guards escorting us were the personification of professionalism and rigor. Each of them seemed like a living wall, their eyes alert and never missing a single movement around them. Their dark, impeccable suits contrasted with the daylight, giving them an almost intimidating appearance. The rhythmic sound of their footsteps echoed across the marble floor of the mansion, as if it were a calculated march.
They never spoke unless necessary, but their communication with each other was almost telepathic, exchanging quick glances and minimal gestures. I could feel the tension in their every movement, as if they were prepared to face any threat at any moment. There was something comforting and frightening about them, a constant reminder that danger was not just a possibility, but a reality.
Despite all the discomfort I felt, I knew they were indispensable. These men were there to make sure nothing happened to me or Nancy. Their presence was a shield that I didn't know whether to be grateful for or afraid of. Looking at their expressionless faces made me realize how serious the situation we were in was. There was no room for error, and I felt it every second.
. They surrounded us in a tight circle, their eyes alert to any movement around us.
"Rachel Morette?" one of them asked, his voice deep and full of authority.
"Yes, it's me."
"We're here to ensure your safety."
Nancy rolled her eyes and muttered softly to me, "Safety or to scare us?"
I pretended not to hear, but the truth was that I felt the same way. Being surrounded by those men made me realize how serious the situation was. It was as if danger was lurking, ready to attack us at any moment. They escorted us to the main entrance, and the tension only increased.
When the heavy wooden door opened, I was greeted by a familiar face: Luigi, the Morette family's loyal butler. His expression was serious, but at the same time, there was something comforting about seeing him there.
-Miss Rachel, it's good to see you back, although I would have preferred it to be under more favorable circumstances.
Before I could stop myself, I hugged him. That gesture, so simple, seemed necessary. He hesitated for a moment, surprised, but soon returned the hug discreetly, a light touch on my back.
"Luigi, what's going on here?" I asked, my voice shaking a little.
He sighed deeply, the weight of the situation written on his face. "There is much to be said, miss, but it is not safe for us to speak here. Please, come in."
Inside the Mansion
We walked through the entrance hall, where every detail screamed wealth and tradition. I knew the place all too well, but now it seemed different, almost menacing. Nancy, of course, was fascinated, her eyes scanning every corner with curiosity.
"This is a dream!" she whispered.
I didn't answer. The mansion, with all its grandeur, seemed like a prison to Vincenzo. The thought made me quicken my pace, determined to understand what was happening.
Luigi led us to Vincenzo's office, a room that exuded power and authority. The shelves filled with books, the massive mahogany desk, the soft lighting-everything seemed orchestrated to intimidate. Sitting there, knowing Vincenzo wasn't there, was harder than I'd imagined.
"Rachel, you shouldn't be here," Luigi began, concern clear in his voice. "This house, this place... it's not safe for you."
"I know the risks," I said, trying to sound firm. "But I couldn't stay away. Vincenzo needs me, and I need to help."
Luigi shook his head slowly, as if choosing his words carefully. "Do you have any idea what you're up against?"
"I do," I lied. The truth was, I had no idea what was in store for me, but I knew I couldn't back down.
Nancy, sitting next to me, decided to intervene. Look, I don't know exactly what's going on here, but Rachel and I didn't come all the way to Italy to give up now.
Luigi seemed torn between admiration and exasperation. waiting. Before I could say anything else, a new voice filled the room.
"Vincenzo always knew how to choose well."
We turned to the door, where Vincenzo's Nona stood. Even at her advanced age, she maintained a presence that commanded respect. Her posture, her expression, everything about her radiated strength.
"Mrs. Morette," I greeted, standing up immediately.
She walked toward me, holding my hands firmly. Her eyes, full of wisdom, studied me for a moment before speaking.
"Rachel, my dear, you're back."
"I couldn't stay away. Vincenzo needs me, and I need to be here for him."
"And do you understand what that means?" she asked, her voice low but firm.
I nodded. "I understand."
She looked at me for a moment longer before smiling. "Then you're ready."
Nancy, of course, didn't miss the opportunity to speak: "If she's ready, so am I."
Nona laughed, a rare but genuine sound. "I like that girl. She's got guts." Luigi cleared his throat, drawing our attention back. "Ms. Morette, we need to discuss our next steps." Nona nodded, but then glanced at me once more. "Rachel, you're stronger than you think. Don't forget that." Preparations After Nona left, Luigi led us to our rooms. The idea of spending the night in the mansion made me uneasy, but I knew it was necessary. As we walked through the halls, I couldn't help but feel a weight on my shoulders. Nancy, as always, tried to lighten the mood. "Well, at least we'll have luxurious accommodations while we figure this all out." "This isn't a joke, Nancy." "I know," she replied, serious for once. "But we need to keep our heads on straight, Rachel." She was right, though I hated to admit it. Nighttime Reflections Later, alone in my room, I found myself staring out the window at the garden below. The thought of Vincenzo in prison, facing all this alone, broke my heart. But I knew I couldn't waver. Not now.
I had to be strong. For him. For us. And for the justice that was finally within our reach.
When tomorrow came, I would be ready to face whatever it took. And I would do it with everything I had.
