Rachel

The place in front of me looked like something out of a film noir-a mix of an elegant bar and a rustic nightclub, as if someone had decided that luxury and mystery should go hand in hand. I couldn't tell what this place really was just from the outside. I had to go inside to replace out.

Before I could put my hand on the handle of the heavy wooden door, I heard the driver's voice behind me.

"Ma'am, are you sure you don't want me to accompany you?" He was looking around suspiciously, clearly as intrigued as I was.

I smiled slightly, trying to convey confidence. "No, I'll go alone. It might take a while. But if anything happens to Vincenzo, let me know right away."

He nodded, still hesitant, and walked away. I took a deep breath and walked inside. The door closed behind me with a soft click, shutting out the sound of the street. Inside, the atmosphere was completely different from anything I had imagined.

There were men sitting in large dark leather armchairs, drinking whiskey and smoking cigars. A few glanced my way, their eyes roving over me with barely concealed curiosity. I ignored the glances and walked toward the bar, where a woman was serving drinks with an almost disconcerting calm, as if the chaos around her didn't affect her.

"Excuse me," I said, trying to make myself heard above the soft music echoing through the place. "I'm looking for some... props for a more intimate place."

The woman looked at me for a second, assessing me, and then a soft smile appeared on her lips. "I understand," she replied, with a tone of someone who had heard this request before. She pointed to a door at the back of the room. "Just go through there. You'll replace what you're looking for."

I thanked her, but before I left, the woman gave me a curious look and something in her tone seemed to suggest that I shouldn't go alone. "Go to the right and don't get lost in the club."

I followed the directions, passing through a hallway that led to an even more surprising area. When I opened the door, I found myself in a sort of nightclub. It was a fancy, loud place, with frenetic lights and pulsating electronic music that made the floor vibrate beneath my feet. I stood there for a moment, amazed at what I was seeing.

The atmosphere was completely different from the more private room I had entered. Here, people danced with an almost infectious energy, moving to the music as the lights flashed in mesmerizing patterns. I struggled to get through the crowd without bumping into people too much, but the space was packed.

As I walked, my eyes darted around the room, looking for some indication of where I might replace what I was looking for. Suddenly, the girl at the counter appeared again out of nowhere and took my hand.

"Let me help you," she said, guiding me through the crowd. She opened another door that led to a staircase that descended, shrouded in darkness.

I glanced back uncertainly, but the woman smiled. "I knew you'd need help. If you need anything else, just call me. My name is Alice."

With a wave, she disappeared. I stood there for a moment, staring at the staircase. Unsure of what awaited me down there, I took a deep breath and began to descend.

As I descended the stairs, the loud, pulsating music of the club slowly began to fade. Each step I took seemed to take me further away from the bright, noisy chaos above. The sound of my heels echoed off the stone walls, and I couldn't help but think how strange this place was. A fancy bar, a luxurious nightclub, and now an endless staircase that led to who knows where.

"Why couldn't a place as fancy as this have an elevator?" I thought, a little irritated. "Is it part of the 'torture' to have to walk down those steps?" The thought made me chuckle to myself, although there was a part of me that found this theory entirely plausible. Finally, after what seemed like an eternity, I reached the bottom of the stairs. My feet touched the smooth, polished floor, and the atmosphere changed completely. It was a store-but not just any store. The place exuded a mix of luxury and sophistication that was both elegant and unsettling. The smell of leather filled the air, and the room was lit by low, soft lights, casting eerie shadows on the walls. There were two female attendants, both dressed in black latex outfits decorated with small metallic spikes that glinted in the low-key lighting. Their clothes screamed power and control, while their calm gazes conveyed professionalism. The combination was intriguing. I approached the counter, where several "toys" were displayed. It was almost as if I were in a jewelry store, except that the items on display were anything but conventional. Chains, whips, shackles, and a variety of other accessories were neatly arranged. I looked around, observing every detail of the place. It was obvious that this environment was made to impress and intimidate.

I took a deep breath and approached the counter, ready to ask my question. "Hello... I would like to know..."

Before I could finish my sentence, the attendant turned to me, and my words got stuck in my throat. I couldn't believe what I was seeing. I stood still for a few seconds, staring at the woman in front of me.

It was Vincenzo's personal nurse. The one who took care of him in the hospital, the same woman who saw us in the room while he was recovering. My heart skipped a beat, and I could hardly believe that she was there, dressed like that and working in a place like that.

She seemed to notice my shock, because a slight smile appeared on her lips, as if she knew exactly what I was thinking. "Surprised, Rachel?", she said in a calm voice, as if it was the most normal thing in the world for us to meet there, in that setting.

I blinked a few times, trying to organize my thoughts. "You... what are you doing here?" My voice came out weaker than I intended, the surprise still clear in my tone.

She smiled again, with that enigmatic air that seemed to be part of her personality. "This is one of my other jobs," she said calmly, as if there was nothing unusual about it.

I was still absorbing the information, unsure of what to say.
