After watching Garrett and Laney leave, Janet walked into the inpatient department carrying achocolate hazelnut cake.

The door to Brandon’s ward was half closed and Janet could hear the men inside having aconversation when she was at the door.

Brandon was talking very softly, and Janet strained her ears to hear the conversation.

“You can give Vivian an important position while I’m away. She is cautious and dedicated in her work.I’m sure she’s also a good problem solver. She’ll be able to help solve a lot of troubles,” Brandon saidin a meaningful tone.

“Mr. Larson, why did your opinion of Vivian change so quickly? Weren’t you still guarding against her afew days ago?” Sean asked in confusion. He was shocked and couldn’t figure out what Brandon wasthinking.

Just then, a gust of wind blew in through the window, ruffling Brandon’s hair.

Sean quickly walked over to shut the window and then turned around, asking suspiciously, “Mr. Larson,are you planning something?”

Brandon shook his head and explained calmly, “We spent a lot of time and effort investigating Vivian,but we still can’t figure out her plans. I just thought we could give her a chance to slip up and giveherself away.”

Vivian had been working in the Larson Group for a while now, but Brandon had not given her manyopportunities to learn about the primary operations of the Larson Group. He believed that Vivian couldfeel that he was sidelining her on purpose.

“Don’t worry, Mr. Larson. I will do as you say. I will report to you timely or when a situation pops up. I’msure that Vivian will show her true colors soon,” Sean said respectfully as he sorted out the documentsthat Brandon had read. He then began to do his own work in silence.

The ward fell silent again as if the conversation had never happened.

However, the sound of something dropping to the floor came outside the door, and the noise caughttheir attention. Sean stood up vigilantly and strode towards the door, demanding firmly, “Who’seavesdropping outside?”

“It’s me,” Janet said awkwardly as she picked up the cake box and forced a smile.

She accidentally dropped the cake box on the ground as she became worried after seeing the seriouslook on Brandon’s face during his conversation with Sean.

Sean and Brandon were stunned by her appearance.

However, Sean soon came to his senses and breathed a sigh of relief. He smiled and joked, “Mrs.Larson, were you listening in on us? You made me think that there were spies in the hospital.”

Janet came in after regaining her composure. She closed the door and asked, “What were you talkingabout? You both looked so serious.”

Sean kept quiet and subconsciously glanced at Brandon, who was sitting in his bed.

Brandon smiled at Janet and calmly said, “Sean was just helping me arrange the work schedule for theemployees in Larson Group during my absence. What about you? I thought you would only come back

after your dinner with Laney.”

He then patted a space beside him, motioning for Janet to sit down.

Janet knew he was lying. His answer was different from what she heard outside the door. She noticedthat Sean was holding some documents and trying to sneak away. She quickly stopped him and asked,“Sean, what’s going on?”

Sean smiled awkwardly and replied, “Mrs. Larson, you are making things difficult for me.” He sighedand continued, “My six-month worth of bonus had already been completely deducted.”

Janet looked at Sean sympathetically and didn’t want to put him in a tight spot any longer, so shenodded and let him go.

She placed the cake box on the table, looking disappointed. She ignored Brandon the entire time whilefiddling with cake box. Fortunately, the chocolate hazelnut cake was protected by the cake box andwas still edible. However, it looked a bit squashed and deformed. 

“Honey, did you buy the cake?” Brandon asked lightheartedly.

He didn’t know how to explain his plans to Janet. She and Vivian had a friendly relationship, so he haddifficulties letting Janet know Vivian’s true colors. 4 “Do you want some?” Janet asked as she felt itwould be wasteful to throw the cake away. She then put the cake in front of Brandon without waiting forhis response.

Brandon smiled forcefully as he took a bite and commented, “It tastes good, although it doesn’t look sogood.”

Janet gave him a meaningful look and said, “It looked good before I dropped it on the ground. Let’s notwaste it and finish it together.”

She then sat at the edge of the bed, picked up her fork and started eating the cake. She noticed thatBrandon was avoiding the topic of the conversation he had with Sean, so she took the initiative to ask,“When I was outside the door, I heard you and Sean talk about Vivian. Is there something wrong withher? Did she cause any trouble?”

Brandon felt a slight unease at her question. He put his cake on the cupboard beside his bed and heldJanet in his arms. He hesitated a little before asking, “What do you think of Vivian?”

Janet answered honestly, “I used to think that Vivian was a capable woman. But I ran into her scoldingher coworker one time when I visited the Larson Group. She somehow reminded me a lot of Charis. Tobe honest, I felt a little uncomfortable by that.”
