Noticing Janet’s gaze, Derek dismissed the women around him and walked up to Janet.

He propped his elbows against the bar counter and asked with jest, “Do you feel out of place? Well,you don’t look like you’re supposed to be here. You look… mystifying.”

Janet put her bag and shawl on the counter and retorted, “If you think that I don’t belong here becauseI’m wearing old-fashioned clothes, then just say so. Stop beating around the bush.”

Derek put down the glassand raised his both hands as if to surrender. “Miss, don’t get me wrong. WhatI want to say is that your beauty is timeless, unlike those girls who are just pretty because of theirmakeup.”

Janet fell silent. It was not every day she got to hear someone compliment her for what she looked like.

The Lind family had imprinted on her mind that she was ugly, which made her self-conscious andinsecure for a long time. But after meeting Brandon, she eventually regained her confidence. However,the way that the Lind family had b*ody-shamed her still brought a pang in her heart.

Janet smiled faintly. Derek’s sincere compliment felt good. But just as she was about to speak, a voiceof a woman came from behind.

“Derek, what are you doing here?”

A group of women walked over to them. They were the female designers whom Derek had sent away.

At this moment, he patted Janet on the shoulder and introduced her to everyone. “This is Janet. She’sfrom W Marks Studio that had created the grand finale at Iridescent Show.”

In an instant, about a dozen pairs of eyes shifted to Janet. They looked at her from head to toe andrealized something.

“The video of their new collection on Iridescent Show went viral. I didn’t expect that W Marks would asksuch a young lady to represent them.”

Everyone stared at Janet with a look of admiration.

“Wow. You were able to join W Marks at such a young age. You’re truly incredible.”

Everyone in the model circle knew Draco, so they were all in awe of Janet.

While they were chatting happily with Janet, a woman walked over from behind them.

“She’s still young, but she managed to take part in Iridescent Show on Draco’s behalf. She must have avery good relationship with him,” she said with a mysterious smile.

Everyone turned around to look at the woman. She had shoulder-length red hair. What was more, herblack dress was fitted, emphasizing her hourglassfigure. She was gorgeous.

“Miss Jimenez, you’re here too!” one of the models said. She then turned to everyone and introducedthe newcomer to them. “This is Kathie Jimenez from Gem Studio. She’s also a designer.”

For some reason, Janet had a feeling that Kathie was not as nice as she looked. Not only that, but shealso thought that Kathie looked familiar. Janet just could not remember where she had seen Kathiebefore.

“I’m Mr. Wesley’s assistant designer. He had some emergencies to deal with and couldn’t come here inperson, so he asked me to attend the show on his behalf.” Kathie lowered her head and leisurely took asip of her red wine. “Really? That’s not what I heard. Most models and designers here come fromabroad, so naturally they had no idea what really happened. According to my friends from Barnes,you’re actually an expert at hooking up with your superiors. She was actually denied entry to the show,but then she hooked up with Derek at the entrance and managed to get in.”

Janet stared at Kathie in disbelief. All of a sudden, it dawned on her where she had seen Kathie’sname before.

Gem Studio, the company Kathie was working for, was the standby team for Iridescent Show.

No wonder she was resentful.

Something had happened to Draco just before the show, so Kathie must have assumed that her studiocould finally take part in the show. However, just as the show was about to start, Janet arrived. As aresult, Gem Studio, the company where Kathie was working, could no longer participate in IridescentShow.

“I know you. You’re from Gem Studio, the standby team of W Marks. I didn’t expect that you could stillcome to this party even if you weren’t part of the show. I thought only those who had attended the showwere invited.”

“How bold of you to say that. You’re incompetent, so you rely on seducing men to get promoted. Howdare you talk to me like that?” Kathie scoffed. What Janet had just said touched Kathie’s sore spot.

“I’m sorry. You guys continue your conversation. I’lljust…” Derek stood up to leave. But when hebrushed past Kathie, he “accidentally” spilled his wine on her dress.

“Oops. I’m so sorry. I didn’t mean to do that. It’s just that my wine seems to like your dress so muchthat it wants some physical contact,” he apologetically said, but the smile on his face said otherwise.
