The Tormented Mate
Chapter 32

She starts to tear up. “Braxton?!” She speaks.

I hold a finger to my lips. “Emily, I am here to rescue you. Zack is still inside the house. I need you to be as quiet as possible.

She freezes at the sound of his name and tears start to flow from her eyes. “Braxton, I…. Do not know…. What….” A cry from the crib brings her out of her thoughts. She places a hand over her mouth. “Oh. God. I had a child with Zack.” She falls to the floor slowly holding her head in her hands.

I walk over to her and pull her into my arms. “None of this is your fault. We will get through this. Right now, I need you to grab the baby and come with me. I need to get you out of here before Zack comes up here.”

She looks up at me and wipes her tears. “Braxton, I love you so much. I have seen you and our pups in my dreams every night since he took me.” She stands up and goes over to the crib. She hesitates for a moment and then looks back at me again. “I love him Brax, but I know he isn’t yours. Are we going to be able to make this work?”

I quickly step over to her and lift her head to look at me. “I will love and accept this child just like our pups and raise them just like our pups. He doesn’t have to be mine for me to love and accept him.”

“Thank you, Braxton.” She says and swaddles the baby. She picks him up and looks at me. “Please get us out of here.”

“With pleasure.”

I take the baby from her and help her get down the window. Once she is safely on the ground, I carefully hand the baby to her. I follow behind her and lead her back to the truck and the pack. Once she is safely to the truck, I spin her around and quickly replace her lips. She melts in my embrace.

“I love you.” She speaks.

“I love you.” I say back.

My father embraces her and helps her and the baby into the truck. I come over to the window. “I have to go back and take care of Zack once and for all. You will be safe here. I am going to leave my dad with you.

“Please be careful. He is strong, he has a ton of wolfsbane also.”

“I will be back as soon as I can” I say and k**s her on her forehead.

As I run back to the house I am flanked on either side by wolves. I decide not to shift just yet. I want to speak to the vampire before I tear his head off. I do not bother with being quiet as I approach the door. In one swift move I knock the door in. In a split second the vampire is in front of me, fuming.

“Don’t bother with trying to get Emily and take off. I have already gotten her and the child to safety.” I spit at him.

“How dare you! They are mine!” He says back and steps forward.

“Not anymore and you won’t live past tonight to ever get your hands on them again.” I begin to shift.

“A fair warning, wolf. I have plans in motion. If you kill me, you will never know what they are and never see it coming.”

I hesitate for a second after shifting. After only hesitating for a second, I lock eyes with the vampire and lurch forward. I get a bite out of him before being thrown to the floor. His vampire speed makes things a little bit more difficult, but I jump back up and tackle him to the ground. We circled for a little while with me snapping and him throwing punches. Finally, I see my chance and I take it locking my jaw around his throat. I snap down hard and feel his neck break. I drop him to the ground, knowing he is not dead but unconscious. I shift back to my human self and see Connor walk in the doorway holding an Axe.

“Want me to finish him or do you want to do it?” He says holding the axe out to me.

“Not that I don’t trust you but the last time I left him without making sure he was dead, he wasn’t, and Emily was taken.” I say back and grab the axe from his hands.

In one swift move, Zack is no more. I drop the axe and walk out of the house, heading straight to Emily. Walking up to the truck I yank open the door and pull her into my arms.

“I wanted to do this the second I saw you.” I say hugging her tightly.

“Braxton, I have missed you so much. I dreamt about you and our pups every night.”

“Our pups will be so happy to see you. What do you say we go home?”

“That sounds amazing.”

The ride to the airport was quiet. Emily stayed cuddled up beside me the whole way home. I let her sleep as I held the baby. Looking at him, knowing that he is half Emily is all I needed. When I look at him, I do not see a child that is not mine. I see a son. I will love this child and treat them just like I do our other pups. He will have challenges in his future, but he will have siblings and above all, he will be loved.

Finally, we pull into our driveway. It is sunny and warm out. As soon as we pull up Emily grabs my hand and squeezes. Right after throwing the car in park we both see the door open to our house. Three little heads come out of the door. Emily and I step out of the car. The twins come running straight for Emily. She scoops them up and smothers them in k****s. Laura slowly comes down the stairs and up to me. I pick her up and hold her tight.

Emily looks over at me saddened. “She doesn’t remember me.”

“I know. She will warm up to you and things will get back to normal.” I say and hug her tight.

Emily introduces the kids to Tyler, and we head into the house. She is greeted by my mother and her parents. After some tears and heartfelt welcome backs, Emily, me and our children are left alone. We spend the next few hours playing with the kids. I cannot stop watching her play with the kids like she never left. Even Laura is warming up to her and playing with her.

Our life can finally get back to normal. We do not have to look over our shoulders anymore. After putting the kids to bed, Emily and I replace ourselves in bed together for the first time in a long time. Neither of us try to initiate s*x. We are just enjoying laying in each other’s arms. I have missed this.

“I love you Braxton.” She speaks.

“I love you Emily.”
