Chapter 221

Evan had a good physical condition, and although he was more seriously injured than Yvette, he woke up earlier.

The doctor informed Justin, "He's the one who saved Ms. Yates. I'll have them sent to the hospital rooms first, and you can talk later." Justin nodded. "Okay, thank you."

Evan and Yvette were separately taken to VIP wards right next to each other.

Justin and Selene went to Yvette's room first to get her settled in before visiting Evan.

Evan leaned against the headboard, smelling the disinfectant and suffering from a splitting headache. His vision became increasingly blurred.

He could only make out faint silhouettes, mostly wearing white, either doctors or nurses.

"Is the doctor here?" he asked.

The nurse hurriedly responded, "The attending doctor will be here e attending doctor will be here shortly. Do you need anything, Sir?"

Suppressing his inner panic, Evan calmly inquired, "Why can't I see anything? My head is also pounding, as if it's about to explode. What's happening?"

Perhaps he had spoken too much at once, and he was starting to feel short of breath. His face, already pale, gradually turned bluish.

Seeing his deteriorating condition, the nurse tried to reassure him.

"Sir, please don't worry. Your ability to wake up indicates that your situation is not too severe. The specific details will be explained by the attending doctor later. For now, I'll test for any penicillin allergies, and if there are no issues, we'll start your infusion."

As she finished speaking, she flipped Evan's hand over.

A slender needle punctured his wrist, administering medication.

He winced at the pain. He asked, "Do you know how the girl who came to the hospital with me is doing?"

When the doctor discussed Yvette's condition with her parents, he was still in the examination room and unaware of what had transpired.

While dispensing medicine, the nurse replied, "She should be fine. Her main issue was severe blood loss. After a blood transfusion and a few days of rest, she should recover." Hearing this, Evan was relieved.

He reached into his pocket but found it empty. "Where's my phone?"

The nurse hadn't seen Evan's phone, so she shook her head and said, "I'm not sure. Your phone probably wasn't brought to the hospital with you. Personal items are usually returned to the patient." Evan asked, "Can I borrow your phone to make a call?"

"Sure."

After unlocking her phone, the nurse asked, "Since you can't see right now, shall I dial the number for you? Do you remember it?"

Evan gave Cecilia's number.

Once the call went through, the nurse handed the phone to Evan.

Cecilia looked at the unfamiliar number from Quilton and immediately answered it.

"Evan, is that you?"

Evan replied, "It's me. Yvette is fine. Don't worry."

Cecilia continued, "I'm worried not only about Yvie but also about you. Your condition is quite serious. You must rest well and take your medication on time."

Upon hearing this, Evan knew that Cecilia was aware of his condition. He asked anxiously, "Ceci, what's wrong with my body?"

"It's nothing serious. You just need to rest for a while. I have hired a nurse, and she should be arriving soon."

Evan wasn't consoled. His brows knitted with worry.

"This is a critical time, and I can't rest."

Cecilia's tone grew stern. "Evan, if you don't listen, I'll have Aiden suspend your duty and make sure you rest." Knowing that she meant what she said, Evan hurriedly said, "I'll rest properly, but I want to be involved in that matter."

With a nurse present, he couldn't say too much, but he believed Cecilia understood.

Cecilia knew that Evan had been chasing the mastermind for so many

years. If he were absent during the final phase, he would carry that regret for the rest of his life.

"Evan, don't worry. We won't leave you alone and proceed without you. Have a good rest."

Evan was relieved. "Okay, don't be rash. You have to discuss everything with us."

Cecilia replied, "Okay, I'll listen to you."

Evan returned the phone to the nurse and said, "Thank you."

Not long after the call was over, the attending doctor arrived.

He asked, "Doctor, why do I feel dizzy, have blurred vision, and experience shortness of breath?"

The doctor reviewed the examination report and explained, "When you fell from a height while protecting someone and hit the ground at such a high speed, you sustained serious internal injuries. You need to rest in bed for about half a month, and all these symptoms should disappear."

Upon hearing the duration of his rest, Evan immediately objected, "I have an important case to handle. I can't stay in the hospital for so long."

"The case can be handled by your colleagues. Your health is more important."

Evan didn't argue with the doctor, who knew nothing of his situation, and pretended to agree, "Okay. I will rest properly."

After a few words of advice, the doctor left.

Shortly thereafter, Justin entered the room.

He carried a large fruit basket and various nutritional supplements.

There was so much stuff that he barely managed to place it all on the bedside table.

Justin started, "Sir, thank you for saving my daughter. If you have any requests, please feel free to ask. The Yates family will do our best to meet them."

Evan said indifferently, "It's the duty of the police to save people. I appreciate your kindness, but you can take them back."

He saved Yvette because she was implicated, and he didn't want anyone else to die at the hands of Wolf Killer.

His cold attitude toward Justin was due to his concern that Yvette, who

already had feelings for him, might take advantage of his life-saving

grace and pester him further.

Justin was unaware of his daughter's affection for Evan,

He thought Evan's indifference was because he was a young and hot-blooded police, who helped others without expecting anything in

return.

He responded, "Even though it's your duty, not everyone would risk their own life to save someone else's. Please accept these things. I've covered all your hospital expenses. Get well soon, and I'll come to visit when I have time."

After saying that, Justin left.

Evan massaged his throbbing temples and asked the nurse, who was preparing to leave, "When will the police arrive?"

The nurse answered, "The doctor said you're not suitable for a statement right now. The police are all waiting downstairs."

Evan fell silent.

He thought internally, "No wonder I haven't seen my subordinates, and they didn't bring me my phone. I guessed they were held off."

Evan informed, "Please let them come up. I have important matters to discuss."

The nurse did not dare to make that decision and contacted the attending doctor.

Knowing the urgency of the situation, the doctor naturally wouldn't delay the police from discussing official matters.

He went downstairs in person, met those police who wanted to see Evan, and spoke with them.

He did so in case they stayed too long in the ward and disturbed the patient's rest.

After a while, the deputy head of the special operations unit, Charles, arrived. He came carrying two bags of fruits to visit Evan.

He also returned his phone to him.

"Chief, you are so brave. You jumped from the roof of a

hundred-foot-tall building, and not only protected the hostage but also yourself."

If it had been him, he would probably not have dared to jump from a building to save someone.

Even if he had the courage, he couldn't have protected the hostage in such a short time and would have landed on the safety cushion first.

Evan didn't respond to Charles' praise and asked, "Have you interrogated the kidnappers who abducted Yvette?"
