Chapter 240

The fragile glass orb, subjected to external force, immediately shattered. The liquid inside hadn't aerosolized due to its lack of contact with the air. Instead, it was swallowed by Jeffrey directly.

The liquid's bitterness sent excruciating stabs as it coursed down his esophagus, leaving him in unbearable pain.

Glass shards in his mouth had lacerated him, and blood began to flow.

Aiden released Jeffrey, who appeared stunned, now huddled on the ground. After expelling the glass fragments, Jeffrey desperately attempted to induce vomiting by thrusting his fingers down his throat. Jeffrey knew, though, that even if he succeeded, it wouldn't be very effective.

The poison was potent and would swiftly dissolve into his bloodstream, spreading through his body.

He continued to retch for a while and then lost consciousness, collapsing on the floor.

Aiden then administered half of the antidote he had used in his research into Jeffrey's mouth.

As Jeffrey slowly regained consciousness, Cecilia burst into the laboratory.

"Aiden, how did it go?"

As soon as she finished asking, she saw Jeffrey, whose face had turned bluish with blood trickling from the corner of his mouth.

Her gaze then landed on the glass shards mixed with blood on the floor.

The familiar fragments sent a shiver down her spine.

"It's really you!"

The entire laboratory's communication had been blocked, and only internal calls could get through.

So Cecilia spoke without restraint.

She walked up to Jeffrey, grabbed his collar, and yelled in anger, "Hand over the antidote, or you'll die along with it!"

Jeffrey indeed didn't have the antidote, but he could produce it.

He was terrified of death but didn't want to show weakness in front of the Shaw family. With a manic expression, he said, "To die alongside the richest man in Quilton and Mrs. Shaw? Worth it!" After uttering those words, he burst into laughter, as if he took pride in his defiance.

Cecilia wasn't afraid to speak frankly to Jeffrey at that point.

She let out a sardonic chuckle. "Do you honestly think Chris is still poisoned? You idiot!"

Jeffrey didn't buy into Cecilia's words and shook his head. "Don't try to fool me!"

Cecilia then directly listed the ingredients of the synthesized antidote, watching as Jeffrey's face darkened bit by bit.

His face turned dark not from poison but from anger as he pieced it all together.

He coldly stared at Cecilia and, emphasizing each word, asked, "You already know Zachary's true identity?"

Only that explanation made sense as to why Cecilia would know the components of the antidote.

Cecilia nodded. "Now, tell me, do you want to die, or do you want to live? If you want to die, I can make you disappear without a trace right now. If you want to live, give me the antidote." Jeffrey had amassed immense wealth and hadn't had the chance to enjoy it. Of course, he didn't want to die.

But he was well aware that the Shaw family wouldn't spare him.

Nevertheless, he had to seizè any chance to escape, knowing that the worst outcome couldn't be more dire than his current situation.

"I want to live, but I don't have the antidote, and I can only create it now, but I have conditions."

Cecilia released Jeffrey, rose to her feet, and looked down at him with condescension.

"Go on, what are your conditions?"

"I understand you won't release me or allow me to contact the outside world. So, my request is simple. Until I develop the antidote, I want my meals to be prepared according to my preferences." Cecilia had a hunch that Jeffrey wanted to convey a message, but she

readily agreed, "Fine"

The more Jeffrey revealed the more fatalities befall Wolf Killer.

She asked. "Can we begin making the antidote now? Mrs. Shaw is getting older, and anything can happen at any time. The sooner we create the antidote, the better? Jeffrey nodded, "I need some specific herbs."

"No problem, jot them down, and I'll go buy them right away. If anything happens to Grandma Elaine, you won't make it either!"

"Understood,"

Jeffrey then got up from the floor, saying, "I'll go rinse my mouth. My

mouth hurts,"

He headed to the laboratory's restroom, with Aiden's men closely shadowing him to ensure he didn't attempt anything.

Aiden regarded Cecilia with a serious expression. "Ceci, you were too impulsive. You shouldn't have revealed everything just now."

They were uncertain about Jeffrey's remaining cards, and if he were to leak information, it could jeopardize the entire plan.

Having come that far, they couldn't afford unnecessary risks.

Cecilia's candidness was rooted in her confidence in having a solution.

She leaned in close to Aiden's ear and whispered, "Aiden, from the moment you captured Jeffrey, he was already a dead man. He won't be able to leak any information." Implicitly, she intended to make Jeffrey's "death" public knowledge.

Everyone would believe he was dead, including the shareholders of Wolf Killer, except for Jeffrey himself, who remained unaware.

Aiden found the method appealing and operationally simple.

"All right, we'll do it as you say, I'll arrange it immediately. You keep a close eye on Jeffrey and ensure he develops the antidote to save Grandma as soon as possible."

Cecilia nodded. "Aiden, don't worry, I want to save Grandma Elaine too, and I'll keep a close watch on Jeffrey. By the way, the military hospital might still have people affiliated with Wolf Killer. We need to thoroughly investigate,"

"Okay, I'll take care of it."

After Aiden left, Cecilia approached the restroom door and watched Jeffrey, who was still rinsing his mouth. She reminded him. "Professor Farsons, don't delay any longer. Come out and work on the antidote." Jeffrey was indeed trying to stall, searching for a way to escape.

He had envisioned several methods in his mind, but they all ended in failure.

The Shaw family had control over the hospital, making any attempt to flee nearly impossible.

He thought of a rather daring method, one that might just work.

He aimed to take a person of significant importance as a hostage! After finalizing his escape plan, Jeffrey grabbed a tissue and wiped the blood still oozing from the corners of his mouth.

"Ms. Yancey, please wait. I'll be ready in a moment."

It didn't take long for Jeffrey to emerge from the restroom. Despite having taken the antidote, his complexion retained a bluish tint, and his lips bore the faint hue of purple, classic symptoms of poisoning. One could easily surmise that if Elaine were to ingest the antidote, her condition would be worse than him.

Jeffrey looked at Cecilia, who had a furrowed brow, and said, "Ms. Yancey, do you mind being my assistant? Your medical skills are quite good, and with your help, we can create the antidote faster."

In his mind, he thought, "Wasn't she supposed to be monitoring me? Well, then I shall put her to good use!"

Cecilia, of course, knew Jeffrey's intentions but didn't mind.

"Sure."

As long as it could save Elaine, being ordered around didn't bother Cecilia.

Jeffrey grabbed a piece of paper and a pen, jotted down the required herbs and their respective quantities, and handed the list to Cecilia. "By the way, I'm a bit hungry and would like to have..."

He intentionally listed a variety of dishes.

Video is not ready yet. Please try it later.

Cecilia stared at Jeffrey with a frosty gaze until he had a change of heart and crossed out more than half of the items.

"Is it acceptable now?"

"It is. I'll go gather the herbs and send someone to buy you the food." Although she said "buy," in fact, she meant that someone skilled in cooking would prepare the food following online recipes, ensuring that Jeffrey had no opportunity to interact with anyone.
