For some reason, Mrs. Cresswell didn't want us in the limo so she and her husband went ahead while Sadie and I arrived in my car. My heart jumped in my mouth when I saw the press again along with a small crowd of people who came to watch the Elites. Sadie held my hand and I looked at her smiling at me. "You already said whatever happens won't spoil your mood."

I took a deep breath and nodded. Then, when it came time to alight from the car, I remembered Theon's words of advice and held onto them like a lifeline. One of the guards who came with us, opened the door and first helped Sadie down before extending a hand to me too.

With his help, I alighted as well and checked to make sure my dress was in place.

At first, the cameras were focused on Sadie's parents who stood on the red carpet and posed for pictures, but then the crowd gushed, directing their attention to us, and so did the cameras....much to Mrs. Cresswell's dissatisfaction.

Fear gripped me. "Are we taking pictures too?" I whispered to Sadie.

"Oh yes. We are." Sadie said, smiling for the cameras already. "Sorry, I didn't tell you." She said as she held my hand and we both walked onto the red carpet.

"I don't know how to take pictures." I whispered.

Sadie turned to me, her eyes filled with admiration. "You don't need to do anything. Just be yourself. You're stunning."

We got to the middle of the red carpet and the cameras flashed with violence. Sadie and I posed together but then the cameramen asked her to step aside. Wait what? Hell no.

As she stepped away, I grabbed her hand and pulled her back. "We are a team." I told her. "If they want pictures with me, then you and I are a package."

Sadie smiled, her beautiful face illuminated by the lightning of flashes. "It's okay. You've always been the star." With that said, she went away into the building. Gods! I panicked. I can't do this. I can't pose for the world.

What do I do?

Slowly, I felt my wolf take over and where I was tight and stiff with anxiety, she relaxed my limbs and easily gave the press subtle poses.

'Stunning!'

I obeyed, looking over at the crowd who stared at me and gushed and whispered and waved and I almost cried but my wolf was not interested in that nonsense. She dried whatever tears were about to fill my eys, and fluidly moved like she owned the place. "Is that a Vivara Luxe necklace?"

"Is that a House of McGregor dress?!"

"My gods. She must be dating someone extremely wealthy."

"I wish I was like her."

Later on, some other people arrived and I was glad to leave the red carpet and walk into the building.

The King's Ball was being held in a place known as the Lunar Hall - a grand, beautiful building with white stone walls that sparkled with silver, shining under the moonlight. It had tall, arched windows reaching almost to the ceiling, decorated with carvings of wolves and

crescent moons.

The whole building felt so elegant and majestic - like it was fit for royalty.

My heart pounded at the fact that I was here - among the Elites. It's crazy!

Ahead of me, I saw guards standing outside a double door but before I could get there, my phone buzzed with a text. I searched through my bag and fished out my phone, worried it might be from Miro. Instead it was from a private number.

"I'm glad you wore my gift. It suits you so well."

I smiled, typing a reply. "Thank you. It's beautiful but may I know who you are? So I can thank you in person?"

I waited for a reply and just when I was about to move ahead, I got another buzz.

"Who I am is irrelevant at the moment. What matters is that you shine at this event. It sends a message."

My brows pulled together at the last sentence. 'It sends a message.'

"A message to whom? What message?"

I waited but I never got a reply.

Deciding I'd think about it later, I approached the doors and the guards opened it for me with a smile.

The moment I walked in, my breath caught.

I thought the outside was resplendent but the inside was twice as regal.

The first thing I noticed was the light-soft, golden, and shimmering, cast by the massive crystal chandelier hanging from the center of the domed ceiling. The walls were lined with tall mirrors framed in silver, reflecting the glow and making the space feel endless. The marble floor beneath my short heels was polished to perfection - its intricate pattern of crescent moons and stars gleaming underfoot. Gentle classical music floated through the air, played by a small orchestra tucked into an alcove. Elite guests in elegant attire moved gracefully, their laughter and murmured conversations blending into a low, harmonious

hum.

At the far end of the hall stood a raised platform with an ornate throne, its back adorned with carvings of wolves. Behind it,

floor-to-ceiling windows revealed the moonlit gardens outside. The room exuded power, wealth, and prestige-a world T had only just stepped into.

A small flight of stairs led down into the heart of the grand hall, and the moment I stepped onto the first step, the atmosphere shifted. Conversations faltered, and a heavy silence spread, broken only by the soft clink of glasses and the faint murmur of curiosity. Every eye turned toward me, trailing from my face to the jeweled necklace resting against my collarbone. Whispers ignited like sparks in dry grass, crackling through the crowd. My wolf surged with confidence, guiding me with a smooth, lazy grace that felt almost feline. Chin high and back straight, I descended as though I owned the room.

My eyes scanned the hall, searching for Theon, but instead, they landed on a semi-circle of figures commanding the room with their presence.

The most Elite Lycan families.

I recognized them immediately from the pictures I had seen online-Director Dutton with his sharp gaze, the Cresshalls with their unreadable expressions, the calculating Caines, the Blackwells whose air of disdain was almost suffocating, and at their center, the Alpha King himself, radiating power and authority.

Their gazes locked onto me, bitter and unyielding, like a wall of ice daring me to breach it. The tension crackled between us, thick enough to choke on, but I didn't falter. My wolf wouldn't let me.

I came to a stop with effortless poise and as a server passed with a tray of drinks, I lifted a glass from the tray with practiced ease. The motion felt natural, as if rehearsed a thousand times, but what happened next was purely instinct.

I raised the glass to them, holding their collective stare, and took a deliberate sip, the cool liquid sliding down my throat as the room seemed to hold its breath.

In that moment, I wasn't just someone stepping into their world-I was someone they would have no choice but to reckon with.
