Chapter 154 THEON

Just like Sadie said, the excuses Ryn gave for leaving were nowhere near satisfactory and even seemed childish.

Still, the letter sat in my pocket, its edges worn from where I'd clenched it too many times.

Ryn's words still echoed in my mind-cold, detached, and so unlike her.

She claimed she'd left of her own will, but every line felt like a scream for help, hidden between carefully chosen words. Miro and I both knew she hadn't written that letter freely. Someone forced her, and we weren't going to stand by while her name was dragged through th Two days later, we were in a bustling city far from home, and went straight to this building which was a massive glass tower housing the TV station hosting Billie's interview.

The plan was simple: stop Billie from airing whatever lies she was planning to spread about Ryn.

The elevator doors opened with a chime to the sixteenth floor, and I stepped into the wide, gleaming lobby. Miro trailed beside me, silent but tense. His usual snark was gone, replaced by the quiet determination we shared when it came to protecting Ryn.

As we approached the reception, I froze, my wolf stirring uneasily, pacing in my chest like it was trying to tell me something.

I looked around, trying to figure it out and even Miro seemed to sense something too.

"Hi. How may I help you?" A cheery voice said and I turned to see the receptionist, looking up at us.

She seemed to realize who we were because she slid a strand of hair behind her ear, and smiled.

I tried to pay attention to the uneasy feeling of my wolf but I was already disoriented.

"I need to see Mr. Falcone," I said, low and firm.

The receptionist blinked, her smile faltering as her fingers hovered over the keyboard. "Do you have an appointment?" "No," I replied, my patience already wearing thin, "but it's urgent." "I'm sorry." She gave a nervous smile. "Without an appoint-"

"You do know who we are, right?" I cut in, and she paled on the spot. "Let us in and we won't have to cause any damage."

Miro suddenly stepped up beside me, flashing his best charming grin.

"What my brother was trying to say is that we promise not to take much of his time," he said smoothly. "It's about the interview airing tonight. He'll want to hear this."

Her gaze

flicked between us before she finally relented. "One moment."

She picked up the phone, speaking in hushed tones. Miro nudged my shoulder. "You're scaring her."

"I don't care," I muttered.

The wolf inside me growled again, a low rumble that made my chest ache. Something wasn't right. The air felt heavier, charged with something I couldn't place.

"He'll see you," the receptionist said, snapping me out of my thoughts.

Then, with a deep breath, I pushed the door to Mr. Falcone's off opened and walked inside.

"To what do I owe this pleasure?" Mr. Falcone asked with a mix

nervousness and curiosity, after we had taken our seat.

"We are here because of the Billic interview" Miro said, crossing his legs. "We don't want it to air"

Mr. Falcone looked from ane to Miro, his forehead creased in worry.

"Why?"

"Because we feel she is a liar and is trying to ruin the reputation of an upstanding person."

Mr. Falcone sighed, scratching a corner of his left eye. "I guess there is nothing else to be done anymore."

""How much?"

He frowned. "Your Highness, I don't understand."

I leaned forward in my seat. "I'm ready to buy this TV Station just to prove a point. So name your price, and I'll sign."

Mr. Falcone blinked before looking at my brother.

"No. You misunderstand me. I mean, the issue with Billie has been settled."

frowned. "How?"

"I don't know who this Ryn girl is, but it seems she has some very powerful friends in very high places. Someone else has taken care of the situation. In fact, the lady involved just left not quite long ago. My wolf stirred, instantly going on alert. "You mean Ryn was here?"

"Yes." The

man affirmed, and the

word was barely out of his mouth, when I dashed out of his office, storming down the hallway towards the elevator. When I saw that the lift

was

groundoors away from the

ground floor, I couldn't wait for it to I come back up so I went for the stairs.

"Theon!" Miro called somewhere far away, but I was too busy flying down the stairs to hear nor wait for him. All I wanted was to see Ryn.

I want her to know that I am here for her, and she can come to me.

I could totally imagine how she'd run into my arms, or come in for a hug.

Gods! How has she been coping and faring? I hope to the Goddess that she's not been starving again and living under bad conditions because that will get me very upset.

I arrived at the lobby, my heart

racing as I searched around for her

in passersby. I tried to trace her scent, but I had no luck. Following the nudge of my wolf, I exited the

building, and that's when I saw her.

BUMS

My heart skipped a beat as I saw her dressed in a cream-colored jumpsuit, walking to a car on the other side of the road.

"RYN!" I yelled, and she froze before turning around.

Her wide eyes met mine, and for a moment, the world around me disappeared. I couldn't hear the cars honking or the chatter of people passing by. All I saw was her-Ryn.

My chest tightened, and I couldn't breathe. She looked the same but different, stronger somehow, but still the woman I had been searching for, dreaming of, every day since she left.

She didn't move, her hand hovering above the car door handle. Her lips parted, as if she wanted to say something, but no sound came out.

The distance between us felt like a canyon I couldn't cross. I wanted to run to her, to hold her, to make sure she was real and not just a cruel trick my mind was playing on me. But then her gaze shifted, and I saw the hesitation in her eyes. A lump formed in my throat. Was she going to leave again?

"Don't." I took a step forward, feeling my pulse rise with anger. Ryn's eyes carried the weight of sorrow as she stared. Then the car door opened, and my heart dropped. My brows furrowed in confusion.

I'm here now.

Why isn't she coming to me? Who is in the car and what is going on?

Ryn entered the car and right before my eyes, it sped off.

Just then, I noticed Miroby my side.

"Did you see that?" I asked.

"Yes." Miro said, watching the car go. "Ryn just willingly walked away from us, He said in a confused tone as well. "Could this have anything to do with that friend in high places that Falcone spoke about?"

ground my jaw in anger as I turned and walked back into the building. "I don't know, but I am going to replace out and I am not leaving this city without her."
