Chapter 228

Melanie’s eyes flickered, and there was a faint stirring in her heart. She knew Blue Inc not only dealt with antique collectibles but also emerging art and craft items as well as artistic creations. They had significant room for development.

She set aside the documents she had just picked up and looked at Eugene calmly. Eugene’s dark eyes narrowed for a moment before he sneered lightly, “That’s not necessary.‘ Melanie tightened her grip, fingers digging into her palm. She calmly replied, “You’ve misunderstood. I have no intention of going.”

She had simply opened up a new line of discussion.

“Melanie is very dedicated to matters relating to Blue Inc. She did almost everything herself and didn’t even allow anyone else to get involved,” Viola said.

She might usually appear obedient in public, but there was no shortage of subtle digs in her words, making them quite uncomfortable to hear.

Eugene had initially saddled her with Melanie so she could learn from her, but Melanie seemed unwilling to teach her anything and did everything on her own.

Melanie looked at her with an indifferent expression and said, “If you couldn’t learn anything from being at the CEO’s office, what else could you possibly learn by following me?”

She was subtly reminding Viola of the incident where she could not even use a search engine properly last time.

Viola’s face turned pale at the response, but she said nothing. Instead, she looked at Eugene.

Her suggestion for Melanie to go with him was merely an act in front of Eugene.

Eugene’s expression was as cold as ever. He glanced at the documents Melanie had just taken back, and a hint of ridicule crossed his face. Then, in a calm voice, he said, “Since you’re so capable, you probably have the collaboration with Blue Inc in the bag.”

His tone was light, but to others, it carried a certain sense of pressure. Melanie stared at him intently.

Eugene sneered and added, “I look forward to seeing the results.

With that said, he retracted his indifferent expression. Seemingly having recalled something, he said, “Since you’re leaving, signing the contract with Blue Inc before your departure should be no problem, right?”

Eugene then left with Viola, and Melanie finally sat back down at her desk. Cameron had not yet given her a reply, so it looked like her plan tonight was likely off.

Yana glanced at her with a concerned look and asked, “Melanie, are you confident about Blue Inc?”

With not many people left in the office since it was the end of the workday, only Yana and one other person were present. Yana was seated close to her and naturally overheard much of the conversation.

Melanie was not entirely confident herself. She rubbed her forehead and replied, “I don’t

know.”

Although Yana empathized with her, she did not say much else. She merely suggested, ‘ Melanie, go home and rest early.”

Melanie nodded. When she was the only one left at the office, she started packing up to go home. Halfway through, however, she suddenly heard her phone ring. It was a call from the nursing home, and for some reason, Melanie felt a slight jump in her temples.

“Miss Smith, if you have time now, could you please come to the nursing home? A woman is claiming to be Mr. Lancaster’s daughter. He looks agitated, and we’re worried something might happen. But he won’t let us into his room.”

The caregiver sounded anxious, and Melanie’s brows subconsciously furrowed.

Dylan?

Melanie’s expression turned cold. If Dylan had taken the initiative to visit him, then it could not be for anything good.
