The Unwanted Luna -
Chapter 46
I look at Hades, unable to believe that he is actually here. What were the odds of him replaceing me? Probably coming to my rescue.
We started on the wrong foot when he kidnapped me and Sophie, but he proved himself when he gave me the date Agron would attack. I lost but that counts for something, right? It proved that we're in the same team. "You're a very difficult woman to replace" he grins. His voice was deeper than I remembered.
"What are you doing here? And where is here exactly?"
This is like no place I expected. So I was wondering what I was doing here. I should have been in Elysium. Not stuck in this endless darkness.
"This is where we call the in between" he starts. "You get stuck here when a part of your soul hasn't truly moved one. I explained this to you before", he studies me. His eyes digging into my soul.
"When? I don't remember us talking about any of this". I fold my arms across my chest and look at him in the same intensity.
"You don't remember, do you?" he asks with a somewhat shocked look.
I unfold my hands and just stare at him. "Remember what?"
Was there something that I was supposed to remember? I've only interacted with Hades two times and in both I don't remember talking about anything concerning the in between.
He sighs. "You told me this could happen" he pauses before continuing. "Here's the deal, a few days after I approached you to warn you about Agron's attack, you came to me. You said that you had fragmented memories about the fates talking to you but it kept disappearing from your mind. You asked me if I could take a look."
He shoves his hands in his pocket before continuing. "I did take a look, turns out they were warnings. Telling you that my brother had a trick up his sleeve, something none of us would see coming. We couldn't figure out what it was but we knew that it was likely something big, meaning there was a probability of you losing and dying in the process."
I looked at him speechless. Nothing about what he said rang a bell. It seemed unlikely that I would willingly seek Hades.
"We had to come up with a backup plan just in case things didn't turn out the way we wanted. That's when I came up with the idea of taking a part of your soul and preserving it. If you died, then you wouldn't be able to cross over without your soul being fully intact, meaning I could bring you back to life, which would have been impossible if you had crossed over to Elysium."
Elysium was where the souls of gods and goddesses resided after death. It was similar to paradise which was for mortals.
If there had been a chair around, I would have sat down. My brain was having a hard time catching up with everything he was telling me. Mainly because I couldn't remember shit. Not even the supposed warning the fates gave me.
"I had predicted you would end up in the section of the wondering souls but I had been wrong. It took a while to figure out that you were stuck here"
"How do I know you're not lying to me?" I start pacing.
Hades has the guts to actually roll his eyes at me. "Haven't I established the fact that I can be trusted?"
"Not really. Yes, you warned me about the attack but you're also known for your mischief and tricks, especially with the souls under your care", I replied honestly.
He laughs. "That's true, but in this case there are more important things at stake compared to tricking silly humans who think they can outdo the master of hell"
I ignore the fact that he doesn't take the human souls seriously and chooses to call them silly. Which I don't think they are, by the way. If you woke up and found yourself dead you will do everything you can to try and go back to the living. After all, isn't that what I've been trying to do since I found myself in this abyss?
"He's telling the truth, Lia. I can feel it" Onyx tells me, popping into my mind.
I trust Onyx, but I can't help but be weary of Hades.
"Give me proof that you're not lying" I demanded. It was the only way to know whether he was telling me the truth or not.
"Fine. Let me unlock your memories then. AGAIN"
That's the only warning again before his hand grips my head. His fingers were digging into my temples. I start to scream when I start to feel like my head is on fire. A powerful energy blast explodes in my head. Followed by memories that were mine but at the same time felt like they weren't.
I remember the dream I had. It was right after Hades took me. The fates talked to me and gave me a message. The missing memory that I had time piecing together was now complete.
I also remember approaching Hades. The words and images kept coming to me, but then I kept forgetting. I would remember a small piece. Before I could put all the pieces back together, I forgot. For some reason, I trusted Hades and I sought him out to help me.
I remember us coming up with the plan and then immediately forgetting the moment I went back to the pack.
"I don't understand. Why would I keep forgetting such an important detail?" I asked once my breathing went back to normal.
"I'm not sure, but I would guess that someone didn't want you remembering." He answers thoughtfully. "Given Agron was working with a primordial deity my thought is that Khaos was behind it. She probably knew that the fates would warn you and the only way to ensure that you didn't mess up their plans by preventing Agron from waking her up was to make sure you forgot"
"But that would suggest that Khaos was more powerful than the fates" I summarized.
The fates are above every deity. Including the ruling ones. So to have Hades state that Khaos was more powerful than them meant that no one could stand against her and possibly win. Hades scoffs. As if what I just said was stupid. "Don't you know anything about the primordial deities?" he asks, and I shake my head in a negative affirmation.
He breathes out. "Let me educate you then. Sometimes I forget that you're a newbie goddess."
"The primordial deities were the first to be born into existence. They were the first race of gods and goddesses. They were astronomical and their forms were elemental and cosmic but that was way before they figured out how to shape themselves into physical beings. There are eight of them. Khaos, Gaia, Erebus, Nyx, Tartarus, Hemera, Chronos and Aether"
He paused before continuing. "Khaos or the void was the first primordial. It's believed that the rest of the primordials came from her. She was the first entity to appear at the dawn of creation and she's also the most powerful of them all. After her came Gaia, the primordial goddess of the earth. Then Erebus and Aether, who are the gods of darkness and light. Nyx and Hemera, goddesses of night and day. Tartarus, god of death and the darkest depths of the underworld. Finally, there's Chronos, the primordial deity of time."
"After the second generation of deities were born, they decided the primordials were too powerful and their powers were unchecked, so they found a way to put them to sleep. They knew they couldn't kill them because, obviously, they were more powerful and also because their deaths would unravel the universe. So they found a way to put them to sleep. They have been asleep for millions of years."
I stand there shocked. My mouth wide open and jaw dropped.
"So you're telling me that Agron found a way to wake up not only a primordial but the first and most powerful of them all?" I asked completely shocked.
"Yes. Which makes me wonder how he did it given that the secret of how they were put to sleep and how to wake them died with the second generation of deities thousands of years ago"
I start pacing. Unable to calm down. I knew Khaos was powerful, but this was another level. How the hell was I supposed to defeat a primordial? She was the freaking OG of all the gods and goddess. This was basically mission impossible. Not only was I just a mere hellhound, I was also very much powerless. Going against her was like a mouse fighting an alligator.
"Come on, we have work to do" Hades breaks my depressing thoughts.
He was already walking back towards the light. I hurried to catch up with him.
"Where are we going?" I hissed. My mind still felt like it was in overdrive.
"To get the other missing piece of your soul" He replies in irritation. "But first there's someone we need to see"
With my thoughts still in turmoil, I crossed over from the dark abyss and into the light.
