The Unwanted Luna -
Their Mate, My Saviors Chapter 5
-POV
Conri-
The start of the drive was quiet, but at some point, the huffing and irritating growls behind me started to make my eyes twitch. "What is it, Vilkas?" I finally said, caving to his childishness. "A human?" He growled. A human. Yeah...I think all three of us were thinking that.
"And what's wrong with a human?" Edon asked defensively. I stand corrected. Two of us were thinking that.
"Why are you okay with this?!" Vilkas shouted, throwing his hands towards the small girl snuggled into Edon's arms.
"This is your jacket!" Edon added while he started to bare his teeth.
"Guys." I called coolly and both of them backed away from each other while Ayame didn't budge. She was peacefully asleep.
Edon took a deep breath and looked between Vilkas and I. "Look, I know you two haven't really been all too excited about not replaceing our mates and I get that. All three of us have lived the life of a single alpha frivolously, but I want to make this clear, we let her decide if she wants to stay with us. We already know that she won't be human for long, so why does it matter?" Edon added.
Vilkas turned away from Edon silently. "That's the problem." I said, speaking the words I'm sure Vilkas wanted to say as well.
"What is the problem with that?" Edon's grip faltered for a second and she resituated herself on his lap, but she still didn't wake. How long was it since she last slept? She was out for the count...and she looked terrible. Not at all the type of woman I would go for. Her long hair was in a braid and now some of it stayed secure while the other parts of it fell all over the place. The dirt covered her small frame from head to toe. She was lean but not too skinny. She has curves and I can tell she might not be that bad once she gets washed up a bit. "But she is still a human." My lycan growled.
"Yeah, I'm aware." I sighed irritably. It is challenging when one mates a human and the hardest part is when they go through the shift. We don't live forever, but we do live much longer than humans do. The blessing....and the curse...the moon goddess bestowed was the luxury of our mates shifting into the spirit of their partner if they are human. The blessing, they live as long as we do and there is a higher chance of dying peacefully together instead of watching your mate age and die much sooner than you. The curse...not all of them make it through the transitions. Especially since it can be much worse depending on what they change into. However...for us.... That is going to be much more complicated than we bargained for.
"I'm still waiting for an answer, brother. Give me a good reason why we shouldn't let this happen. I'm not losing my mate." Edon growled again and Vilkas and I snapped our attention to him.
"Edon, calm down. I don't think you want to lose your mate because you lost control either. We will figure this out once we get back to the house." I warned, assessing his body language and rising heart rate. Edon is not the one you want to make angry. He may be the nicest out of the three of us, but he was also the most dangerous.
"Then what?" Vilkas asked, finally chiming in to the heated conversation he started. "We reject her before she rejects us, right?" He added tersely.
"It's her choice, Vilkas. We will deal with it, whatever it is." I countered.
"We can't just let her leave after she knows either, Conri." Vilkas spat back.
I turned out to stare into the wilderness surrounding the SUV. "I know." -POV Ayame-
The cool air kissed my cheek again but the cover that was draped around me in the car was still on my body, so I didn't feel as cold as before. I was still being carried and it seemed like I was still in Edon's arms. I shifted my weight and he tightened his grip to make sure I didn't fall. "Alphas?!" I heard a woman this time. She seemed shocked and concerned. Was it about me? I wouldn't be surprised. I look terrible.
"Hello Elizabeth. Can you please get a bath running in my room?" Edon asked. His room? I tried to wiggle out of his arms, and he looked down at me. "Oh good, you're awake. Elizabeth is going to get a bath running. We will chat with you in our living room until it's ready." I looked up at him and rubbed my eye. "Your living room?" I asked.
"Yes, on the fifth floor." Conri said, as he looked over his brother's shoulder and made eye contact with me.
I stared at him awestruck for a minute, then nodded. Fifth floor. How big was this place?! "S-sure." I mumbled. He pursed his lips and started up the stairs the maid had just disappeared on. "Did I say something wrong?" I asked, beyond terrified. Now I'm terrified? And the fear is only coming from the concern of disappointing him and not from the fact that I'm in a new place, with three men I have never met, and they want to take me to an isolated location? I really need to get my brain checked.
I didn't notice I was biting my finger until Vilkas gently moved it away from my lips and silently placed it back on Edon's shirt, right over the buttons I was playing with earlier. Then, he too scoffed, and jogged up the stairs behind Conri. He really doesn't like me. I guess he doesn't like finger biting either. Yeah...finger, not nails. I don't have any nails to bite off anymore. "You didn't do anything wrong." Edon said, before he carried me up the stairs.
"Aren't your arms tired?" I asked curiously. He didn't even seem like he was breaking a sweat.
Edon shook his head. "Nope."
The grin of pearly whites, and the mischievous glint in his eyes almost made me pout. I instead took a different route and rolled my eyes before plopping my head back on his chest. If he thinks I'm not heavy, then I won't push it. I mean it's not impossible for that to be the case. I'm around 5'3 and he's at least 6'8 - 6'9. There is no way he's having problems carrying me.
Once we made it to the fifth floor, Conri was already waiting for us on the large five-seater couch. Edon placed me on the chaise closest to the window and I already missed the contact. The minute he sat down, I crawled up to him and snuggled into his arms again subconsciously. Their scents were intoxicating. I wanted more. He smirked and tapped my nose. Have I ever been this comfortable around anyone? I don't even think my mother made me feel this safe.
"We have a lot to discuss, little one, and I want you - and Edon - to stay focused." Conri said with a knowing look.
I blushed and reluctantly pulled away from him. Crawling back over to the chaise and snuggling into the jacket instead, I knew Conri was right. I can't just show up at their house and not have a conversation about what is going on here. Inhaling the delicious smell that lulled me to sleep in the car, I noticed something was off. It wasn't the same scent of honeysuckle and pine, like Edon. It was more of a fire ember and oak smell on the coat. It reminded me of the camping trips I would have with my mom. She loved the outdoors as much as I do and now that I haven't seen anything outside of Richard's house in years, I was hooked.
It had to be one of the other two's jackets, but I didn't' see them wearing one when they found me, so I don't know who's it is. Either way, it was just as heavenly as Edon. "Now, before we get started. You need to tell us what happened and how you ended up on our southern boarder." Conri asked. He wasn't as gentle as his brother, but there was a protective aura about him that made me want him too. Is...is that bad?
"Southern boarder?" I asked curiously, suppressing my ridiculous thoughts. The more they talked, the more they reminded me of the stories my mom used to tell me about this place. A magical world she called a nirvana for mythical creatures. She told me it had wolves, vampires, fairies, lycans, werebears.... I giggled and immediately slapped my hand over my lips. Every time she'd say werebears, it would make me giggle. Sh*t, I guess that's still the case. I didn't mean to laugh out loud.
Edon smirked and Vilkas looked at me confused while Conri sighed. "Is there something you want to share with the class?" Conri added sarcastically, but even he couldn't fight the smile on his lips.
I shook my head and blushed, letting my hand fall away from my face. "I...um...it's nothing. I was just remembering someone for a minute." I confessed. "It...it won't happen again." I hurriedly added. It wouldn't be wise to bite the hand that fed me right now. Because of them, I'm out of the frozen tundra I found myself in. Because of them, I'm starting to think that maybe...just maybe there are other options than just letting the world consume me and my sorrows.
"It's fine, your laugh is cute." Edon said, and I was happy to hear that. It made my whole demeanor light up. These men really do something for me and I never thought I would say that in a million years. I couldn't handle one and now I'm drooling over three? All three...even the two that look like they want absolutely nothing to do with me. I'm doomed.
