The Unwanted Luna -
Their Mate, My Saviors Chapter 11
-POV
Richard-
I stood with my fiancé while my father droned on with another parlor joke. I cannot believe he made me come here and dropped the 'threaten to pull me out of his inheritance' thing to solidify the deal. This is outrageous. "Richard?" Tanya asked. I turned to her, my fiancé, and forced a smile. "I asked if you would get me a drink. Where is it?" She asked sharply. Oh, what I'd give to knock her around, just once. Thankfully, I have my little Ayame for that. Oh, she really is a stupid girl. I cannot believe she thought I actually loved her. Luring her in was too easy. Then I just had to apologize a few times here and there and she just continued to let it happen. "Fine." I said curtly and walked off to the libations table. I'm just happy I can get away from my dad for a while. Once, I made it back to the gathering crowd. I handed Tanya her drink.
"Took you long enough." She grumbled. Ugh! I cannot wait until we can get this farce over with! I just have to be around her on camera. No one needs to know we have absolutely no relation to each other beyond that. Political marriages suck!
I gripped her arm and she gasped but cleared her throat so no one turned our way. "Listen here, you -" I was about to tell off that ungrateful spoiled brat, but then my phone buzzed.
"You going to get that? It's probably important." She added before yanking her arm away from me and storming off to the table. Saved by the bell.
I stalked off to the main hallway where there were fewer people and answered my phone. "Hello?" I called.
"Sir, this is Alex from your home security team, sir."
"And?" I asked through gritted teeth. Why the hell would they be calling me? I've only been gone for five days. All they have to do is walk around the estate and make sure no one breaks in. Ayame was out cold and she should be for the rest of the week after the beating I put her through. I guess I wanted her to have something to remember me by. Also, it would minimize her likelihood of escaping. She has been trying that as of late and I need to do a bit more to keep her under control. The contract isn't helping me anymore.
"Sir, Jared just called with his daily updates and...he told us that Ayame is no longer in your room." The guard said.
My grip on the phone tightened. "Have you checked the gym or the swimming pool?" Damn! She is up early.
"We all checked every room on the grounds sir, she is missing."
"So let me get this straight. It has only been five days and you lost her?!" I asked in a harsh tone as I tried my best to stay quiet as a few people past my hiding place.
"Apologies, sir. She just ran off in the middle of the night and when we came in to do our rounds the next morning, she was gone. If it wasn't for Jared, we wouldn't have noticed until much later." Either way, it took them five days for her to give them the slip?! I'm still trying to figure out how she made it out with no one seeing her. The minute I get home, I'm installing cameras and when I replace her...she will be tortured until I'm satisfied. That bitch!
"I do not care. I want her found and found now. Alive! I need her alive!" I growled through the phone before immediately hanging it up. This bitch was not going to ruin this for me. She really isn't worth much, and honestly, it would be better if I sold her to someone else for her insolence. At this point, I should and it would make me a solid profit on the black market.
I already see many potential clients at this banquet. I guess dad forcing me to come here was a good idea. Even if she is ignoring our legal documentation, according to that contract, I'm legally allowed to do what I please with her and she has no say in the matter. Stupid girl. Her running away meant she stole my property. She is my property.
When I replace her again, I will treat her like the thief she really is before selling her to the highest bidder!
-POV Ayame-
"Where is she supposed to sleep then?!" Edon shouted.
"I don't know, but I don't trust either of you." Conri growled.
"I don't trust you either!" Edon called. I was awake now.
How long were they going at it? I winced and I could tell I was still sitting on Conri's lap by his scent. "I bet five bucks, they will start fighting over her." I knew that voice anywhere. Kyle was betting on this?
"Just fucking pick already. You two are giving me a headache." Vilkas spat out curtly.
"She accepted us, hell she accepted you, and you don't even care?!" Edon shot back. "Nope." Damn. That was cold.
"Why you piece of -"
"She has to go to bed, and I'm tired of arguing about this. We will just wake her up and ask. We have to go meet up with the guard as well. Make sure the head count in the dungeons hasn't changed since last week. We cannot neglect our duties all week." Conri added, stepping in between them. Dungeons? I guess everything is real. The good and the bad of the dream world my mother depicted.
"Well, I didn't hear anything from the boarder patrols this week. It's actually been pretty quiet." Charlie confirmed.
"That's probably how your princess got here unharmed, well, mostly unharmed. Seriously, Moon Goddess for the win!" Kyle said with a smirk. Do they seriously still think I'm asleep with all this noise going on? I stiffled a giggle while I continued to listen to the conversation. "Kyle!" All three of my triplets growled.
"I agree with Conri. She's being a nuisance. You two figure this out and meet me there." I heard some shuffling and Vilkas just left, slamming the door behind him.
I froze and felt my blood run cold. My triplets? Maybe I was getting too comfortable. Vilkas was gone and he was right. I was being a nuisance. They shouldn't have to coddle me so much. It was nice at least two of them cared, but I feel like they should be just as annoyed as Vilkas right now. If I'm going to be here, I should do more than just sleep.
I lifted my arm, and rubbed my eyes before peeking through my fingers at the sight. We were all still sitting on the couches in the office, but the lunch trays were gone, a map was on the coffee table, and it was nightfall. Yeah...I really need to stop zoning out. I can't even blame it on the time change. "You know...you guys are really loud." I mumbled before shifting my body towards the coffee table.
"You know you sleep like a rock." Kyle said, full on laughing now.
"Oh really?" I countered.
"Definitely. They have been arguing for at least an hour. I was about to wake you up myself just to get it to stop." Vincent added.
"About?" I asked, feigning ignorance.
"Well, you were tired. I was going to take you back to my room so you can sleep. We need to go to the...um...we need to head out for a bit." Edon said, clearly hiding something. I'm sure it had everything to do with the dungeons. "Right, and what does that have to do with the argument?" I asked.
"He's had you all day. It's not fair." Conri grumbled.
"She's been on your lap for the last five hours!" Edon shouted and the arguing began again.
"Stop!" I shouted, not really wanting to hear it anymore and I could feel the salve was wearing off already. I was in pain...again. They turned to me and I huffed. "Kyle, can you replace a guest room for me please." I asked nicely.
"A guest room?" Conri and Edon asked together.
"Yes, I'm...I'm taking this slowly, remember?" I reminded them. I would love to sleep with either of them immediately, but that was my heart talking. My brain was screaming to be in a completely different building to Conri and Edon and a whole different city from Vilkas. They had better be lucky. I'm just going to be in a different room.
Edon rubbed his hand through his hair and Conri stayed as still as a statue. "S-sure. I'll take you to a guest room. There is one a few doors down from here. Right across from the living room." Kyle said.
He got up and went towards me. I tried to get to my feet and Conri's arms were around my waist in a second. "Conri?" I asked and, saying his name out loud, was much easier than the other two. Maybe it's because I've already had to say his brothers' names.
"I'll take her." That wasn't a question, nor was it up for negotiation. No one said a word, including Edon.
He stood to his feet and we left the office while he carried me away in one arm. I sat on his forearm like a seat and wrapped my arms around his neck. I wasn't worried I was going to fall or anything.... Strangely enough, I had faith in his abilities. We made it to the end of the hallway, next to the stairs, and he opened the door.
It was a cute room with a full-sized bed and a white comforter. There were two doors facing the bed on the right and a small writing desk next to the window. He rested me down on the comforter, then stood to his full height. "The bathroom is the door to the right and the closet is to the left. If you need to get up, call one of us. We will hear you." He instructed, before turning around and heading for the exit.
"Conri, wait please." I called before leaning over the edge of the bed. I thought my hand was secure, but it wasn't annnnd I slipped. He caught me before I tumbled toward the nightstand.
"Are you okay?" He asked, adjusting me into the middle of the bed this time.
"I'm fine, but I do need your help." I said, twisting the shirt in my hands.
"For?" He asked, sitting on the side of the bed. I blushed and looked towards the bathroom. He followed the direction of my eyes and nodded. "Right." He scooped me up and placed me in front of the toilet before heading out of the bathroom and closing the door behind him. I quickly did my business, and he was back in the room once the toilet flushed. He turned on the water and grabbed some soap before picking me up and putting me on the counter right next to the sink. "You weren't kidding when you said I won't be walking." I said, smiling a bit. "Of course not." He added sternly. He really has no other emotion but calculated. He wasn't as easy to talk to as Edon, but he wasn't uncomfortable to be around like Vilkas. Just...calculated.
"Why though? I'm sure you three have more important things to do than watch out for your broken mate. Well...maybe I should say the two of you." I questioned, adding in a lure to talk about Vilkas. I'm sure if someone knew what his deal was, it would be Conri.
He handed me a hand towel and I wiped my hands clean before he carried me back to bed. He pulled the sheets down and placed me in the middle again before pulling up the comforter and sheets. "I don't know what Edon told you, but we have been waiting for our mate for nine years."
I held on to the comforter and pulled it up to my chin. "Then, why is Vilkas so angry with me? I...I'm sorry that I'm not what he wants. I...I know he doesn't want to be around me." I really wish I was asking Edon this, but after Vilkas walked out of the office, I just have this feeling that if I don't ask someone now, I will be filled with doubt that I can't control.
Conri looked down at me and furrowed his brow like he was trying to think of the best way to let me down easy. "In our world, not replaceing your mate for so long is not something people like to experience. Vilkas is a challenging one. I'm sure he's worried about you, even if his words don't match his actions. But personally, I think you being a human is what did him in."
"A human? There isn't much I can do about my species." I grumbled, and Conri's expression grew harsh again.
"There is nothing we can do about ours either. He will get over it at some point. Either that or Edon will rip his head off. I wouldn't worry too much about it, Ayame. Get some sleep."
I couldn't think straight after that. I shouldn't have gotten annoyed with Conri. He was just telling me the truth, but this was just irritating. How am I supposed to get Vilkas to even look at me when my very existence is wrong? From what I have learned about mates from my parents, they are supposed to love you no matter what. I thought all three of them would. The only one who has even tried is Edon. Even Conri seems to have put me at a distance.
Conri sighed, rubbing his face. "Look, I know you went through something traumatic. We understand that we cannot undo what has already been done, but it is killing us that we didn't replace you sooner. We will never let you be in pain again, Ayame. No matter what we have to do...no matter how trivial it may seem to you, it is priceless to us. You are priceless to us. All three of us. Just give him time."
He leaned over and kissed my forehead before heading out of the room. It was the first gentle kiss I'd felt in a long time. "Conri?" I called before he closed the door behind him.
"Yes?" He asked. He seemed exhausted now. It's been a long day for all of us.
"Thank you." I mumbled. I felt my cheeks blush and I was starting to think I might have Conri pegged wrong. He let me sleep on his lap earlier and he was gentle with me just now, even after he gave me the hard truth. He might be more like Edon than I thought. Maybe Vilkas will be the same? I'm not going to hold my breath.
He grinned for a split second, then nodded. "Your welcome. Elizabeth will come in to help you change out your bandages in an hour. I...called her while you were in the bathroom."
I giggled. "Mind link?"
"You got it, princess." He said with a smirk before finally leaving me in the room alone. I know those silly men wanted me near them and I did too, but I am glad they are respecting my decisions. It's a start that I welcome. It's my turn to make at least some of the decisions in our budding relationship.
