The unwanted wife’s unexpected comeback -
Chapter 45
Chapter 45:
? ? ? ? ?
As Caden waited for the elevator, his phone buzzed with a call from Hank.
"Mr. Ward, your father's condition has stabilized. The Yates family has completed his discharge and plans to return him to Yates Mansion for recovery," Hank reported.
Caden took a long drag on his cigarette. “Let them deal with him however they want. It’s none of our business.”
Hank looked surprised. “Aren’t you going to keep an eye on him?”
"I'm not going to do it," Caden replied.
“Should we postpone our planned operation then?” Hank asked.
"Yeah."
Hank couldn't help but feel confused by Caden's recent behavior. Something seemed different about him lately.
In the past, no matter what was going on, Caden always followed through on every last detail of his plans, never losing focus. Now, it seemed like his mind was somewhere else.
“Should we keep an eye on the Yates family?” Hank asked.
“Take care of it. I have other things to take care of,” Caden replied.
"Mr. Ward, if there's anything to be done, leave it to me," Hank said.
Caden chuckled, the smoke making his voice sound hoarser.
"This is not something a guy like you can handle," he said.
Curiosity got the better of Hank. “What's wrong, Mr. Ward? Why are you keeping this a secret?”
"It's a medical concern," Caden said.
Hank looked surprised. “But hasn’t he been taking medication all this time?”
“I was, but I stopped because it wasn't working,” Caden replied.
Just then, a family of three approached.
Caden ended the call and briefly glanced at the boy, who looked to be about six years old. He calmly put out his cigarette and threw it into the nearby trash can. Even in such simple actions, his dignified presence and effortless charm were evident.
Who wouldn't be captivated by such a man? The girl's mother couldn't resist the urge to steal a few more glances at him.
Even inside the elevator, she kept sneaking glances at him. When Caden left, her husband spoke coldly.
"You like her that much? Why don't you ask for her number?"
The woman smiled slyly. “What are you talking about?” It sounded familiar, so I took a look.”
"Do all handsome men look familiar to you?"
"Don't be jealous. It's nothing serious."
When Caden got home, he headed straight to the bathroom to take a shower.
With regular training four times a week, I have maintained an almost flawless physique.
Steam filled the bathroom as the hot water ran over her toned body, quickly turning everything into a hazy blur.
Caden closed his eyes, letting the images from before take over his thoughts and stir his senses.
That night at the club had left him completely dissatisfied.
But now, the atmosphere was right.
Water dripped down his long, well-defined fingers.
He had power, but tempered with control. It was as if his fingertips instinctively knew every vulnerable spot on Alicia's body.
She could barely contain herself and moaned incessantly.
Alice woke up abruptly from her dream.
The dim bedroom was bathed in a soft orange glow, casting a faint glow over his face, which was dampened by a light sheen of sweat.
Alice lay still, lost in thought for what seemed an eternity, before carefully pulling back the blanket to examine herself.
His eyes scanned the room.
It had all been a dream.
Her face burned with shame and she quickly got out of bed to wash.
When it was over, he had no hope of ever falling back asleep.
Every detail of the dream remained vivid in his mind. The desires he would not dare acknowledge in the light of day had run wild, free of all restraint.
Alice buried her face in her arms, feeling frustrated and conflicted for what seemed like ages.
She had never denied her own desires. When she was with Joshua, she had even tried to explore those feelings, trying hard, but they never got her anywhere.
For a long time, Alice believed that something was wrong with her, perhaps she was frigid or too young for those emotions to fully awaken.
But why was it so easy to lose control when it came to Caden?
It was so annoying.
It was like being drawn to something you knew was dangerous, but couldn't resist.
The more Alice thought about it, the more uneasy she felt.
His mind was a mess.
Suddenly, his phone rang with a message from Monica.
“Alicia, have you seen the news? Someone has exposed the founder of Bigail for having an affair and now that's all everyone is talking about. No one is focusing on you anymore.”
Alice answered absentmindedly: "Isn't that kind of thing common in the industry? Why is this one blowing up?"
Monica quickly responded: “Because the lover is not a woman. “He is an innocent university student.”
Alice was frozen in disbelief.
"Hahaha, who would be so twisted as to dig something like that up?"
Alice took a deep breath.
Who else could it be?
Caden had to be behind it, of course.
The founder of Bigail held a grudge against him, and by bringing this scandal to light, Caden was not only striking back at the founder, but also making Alicia favor in the process.
Caden never made a move without expecting something in return, and spending money like that meant he was looking for double the reward.
The more Alice thought about him, the more uneasy she felt.
She couldn't understand why her feelings for Caden were so intense, nor could she figure out what he really wanted.
What did last night's kiss mean?
Was it just physical attraction?
If that was all, why didn't he go all the way with her?
She picked up the phone, unsure of what to do next. “Monica, is it possible to be attracted to someone even if you despise them?”
"Not at all. If I hated someone, I would tell them off as soon as I saw them."
"But what if you're perfectly compatible physically? You don't like them, but that doesn't stop you from wanting to sleep with them. Is there any scientific reason for that?"
Monica replied mockingly: "Who made you nervous?"
Alice was silent for a moment.
Monica gasped. “What the hell? Don’t tell me you’re talking about Joshua!”
Alice let out a sigh.
"Of course not. He's someone even more dangerous than Joshua."
