The unwanted wife’s unexpected comeback -
Chapter 60
Chapter 60:
? ? ? ? ?
Shelia flinched, uneasiness washing over her instantly. She was worried that Caden might have heard her. But then, she reminded herself that Jerald was awake and would support her. What could Caden do? She would have no choice but to play along.
Putting on a smile, she said, “Caden, it's pouring outside. Why don't you stay for a while? “Skip the office today and have dinner with Jerald.”
She expected him to refuse, but to her surprise, he simply said, “Okay.”
She stared at him, momentarily surprised. Caden raised an eyebrow. “Caden raised an eyebrow. “Were you expecting me to refuse?”
Shelia forced a smile. "No no. I'm just… glad you're staying. It’s so weird.”
Caden stood there stone-faced. He could see right through her, knowing her kindness was nothing more than an act. But he had no patience and turned back toward the guest room without another word.
Alice hobbled back to her room, pulling up her dress to check her knee. It wasn't seriously hurt, but a bruise had already started to form. She let out a heavy sigh. It seemed like karma was coming fast for her.
But why had Caden never faced any consequences for his actions?
She opened the closet and found some clothes she had left behind before the divorce, then headed to the bathroom. As she entered, she was overwhelmed by the presence of Joshua's things everywhere. Her stomach turned. She closed the door and went to replace another room.
The upstairs rooms were all private, so she picked one at random to clean up in. Pushing open the door, she stopped dead in her tracks. Caden was standing by the bathroom door, in his underwear. His hands were hooked around his waist, ready to pull them down when he noticed her.
He stood still, his sharp eyes boring into hers.
Alicia stood there, stunned, unable to look away from her almost perfect abs. She was speechless.
Caden's physique was impeccable from head to toe. It was a shame that his personality was as sharp as his tongue.
For a moment, she stood completely mesmerized, lost in her daze, unable to speak or move.
Caden stood still for a few moments, watching her. When it was clear that Alicia wasn't going to look away, he slowly pulled up her underwear. “Enjoying the view?” I have joked.
Alice blinked, started, coming back to reality.
He smirked. “Just watching, huh? “You know it’s more fun if you touch.”
Her face flushed, and she quickly redirected her gaze to his face, avoiding the awkwardness. “What are you doing here?”
I have shrugged nonchalantly. “Is this your room?”
She didn't answer. Of course, she wasn't. There were plenty of guest rooms, and she had just chosen the closest one without thinking. Running into him had been pure coincidence.
Caden, ignoring the tension, gently pushed open the bathroom door. His voice, deep and suggestive, filled the room. “Since you’re here, would you like to take a shower together?”
Her mind raced, reliving memories of him. She'd gotten away with it twice already. If she gave in again, there would be no turning back.
I couldn't resist.
By no means.
Alice shook her head. “Go ahead. “I don’t feel comfortable with another person around.”
He turned around and headed for the door. Just as he opened it, the sound of approaching footsteps reached his ears.
She hesitated. It had to be one of the maids. Her instincts took over and she immediately closed the door again. Being trapped in this situation, soaked and in the same room as Caden, would create all kinds of rumors.
This wasn't a hotel. It was the Yates Mansion.
The family was full of gossip, and if Joshua found out about this, it would be a disaster.
As if reading his thoughts, there was a knock at the door.
He followed the maid's voice.
"Mr. Ward, the clothes you ordered have arrived."
Alice stepped back in surprise, making room for Caden. Without a word, she grabbed a towel, wrapped it around her waist, and called out, “Leave them at the door.” The maid replied, “Okay,” and soon the hallway was silent.
Only then did Caden open the door to get the clothes.
Alice, leaning casually against the wall, asked curiously, "Why bother with the towel if you weren't going to let her in?"
Caden looked at her. “To protect me from you.”
Alice blinked, momentarily speechless.
Without hesitation, Caden tossed the clothes onto a nearby surface and removed his towel. His toned chest, chiseled abs, and slender figure immediately caught her attention again.
He cleared his throat, trying to regain his composure. “And now you're not protecting yourself from me?”
Caden scoffed. “Think before you speak, okay? Do you expect me to shower with a towel on?”
Once again, Alice was speechless.
Caden walked to the bathroom, his voice indifferent. “I’ll shower first, then it’ll be your turn.”
Alice hesitated before saying, "I think I'll go back to my room."
Caden raised an eyebrow. “Oh? In that case, are you okay with everyone assuming we're hooking up?”
Her face flushed, caught off guard.
“I'll be careful,” he muttered, touching his nose.
Caden's lips curved into a smile. “If you're really worried, jumping out the window might be your safest bet.” Then he asked, “Why are you so nervous around me? Are you too trusting?”
His irritation grew. Instead of leaving, he sat down stubbornly. He wanted to see who would fall into temptation first.
As she sat there, tiredness began to weigh on her. From the moment she had arrived at the Yates mansion, she had been on the edge. Now, listening to the rhythmic sound of the shower and the silence of the room, her body gave out. A yawn escaped her.
The wet clothes clung to her skin, making her feel hot and sleepy. Her eyes felt heavy and soon she could not keep them open.
Just as she was beginning to fall asleep, a sharp pain woke her up.
She gasped and opened her eyes to replace herself lying in the tub. Caden knelt beside her, tending to her injured knee.
