Chapter 75:

? ? ? ? ?

Caden gave him a scornful look.

“Are you trying to snatch another kiss from me?” I have mocked.

Alice matched his disdain with her own cutting tone. “Now you admit it? “I always knew you had ulterior motives.”

All the attention he had given her that night had been in vain.

Instead of reciprocating his kindness, she had chosen to betray his trust, proving that old habits die hard.

She pushed her hair back and spoke firmly. “I have important things to do. “I’m done wasting my time with you.”

With those words, he began to scan the crowd, looking for Rachel.

Alicia was about to leave when Caden interrupted her. “I understand what you're trying to do today. Even though she can’t help you, I can.” Even after hearing that, she was still not convinced by his statement.

She hadn't even shared her plans with Monica yet, which made her wonder how Caden could know about them.

"Thanks, but I'll pass," he replied firmly.

Noticing her defiance, Caden let out a chuckle.

"You have a great opportunity before you, and yet you choose to ignore it. Don't expect my help later."

Alice felt her competitive spirit flare up. “I appreciate your concern, but please stay out of my business.”

She reminded herself not to resort to underhanded tactics like she had done in the past.

From a distance, Alice saw Rachel approaching. She grabbed her drink and prepared to approach her from across the room.

“Why the rush? Take care of my business first and then you can go,” Caden said.

He took a sip of his drink and immediately frowned, replaceing it completely tasteless.

Alice felt a wave of annoyance. She looked down at her glass and asked, “Is your drink tasteless?”

Caden looked down at his glass and replied, “It’s just warm water.”

She paused for a moment before calmly suggesting, “Would you like something with a little more flavor?”

Caden turned his gaze to her lips.

When their eyes met, an unspoken understanding passed between them, and Alice couldn't help but smile.

It seemed like they both thought the same thing. Caden reluctantly agreed. “It’s not a bad idea, but in this environment, it might not be convenient for you, Miss Bennett.”

Alice smiled reassuringly. “It will be quick.”

Caden straightened up and replied, “Whatever.” Instead of leaning in for a kiss right away, Alicia took a sip of her own drink first.

Caden raised an eyebrow, clearly noticing her deliberate move. His expectations were not met, however, when Alicia decisively spat the sip from her mouth into his glass.

Her actions were gentle and purposeful, and she made it all seem so natural.

Caden stared silently at the now pinkish water, choosing not to answer.

Alice wiped the last of the drink from her lips and said casually, "You can drink it now. It's completely bland, just like you like it."

With that, Alice walked gracefully out of the room.

Caden let out a frustrated laugh, clearly exasperated. Once he was gone, Gerry walked over and casually picked up a sandwich to nibble on. “What was going on with you and Alicia?”

“We had a little argument,” Caden replied flatly.

“You have a lot of time on your hands,” Gerry commented with a hint of amusement. He took a couple of bites of the dessert, its overwhelming sweetness catching him off guard, making him cough in annoyance.

Instead of reaching for his own drink, Gerry reached for the glass in Caden's hand. “Let me have a sip.”

Caden pushed the glass out of reach with a frown. “Buy your own drink.”

"Why can't we share a drink? What's the problem?" Gerry asked.

“I’ve already drunk from it,” Caden said, giving him a withering look.

“I don't care,” Gerry said before making another attempt to record her. “We've been sharing drinks since we were kids. Come on, I’ll get you another one later.”

Without another word, Caden drank the entire glass.

This left Gerry speechless. Then he gulped and asked, “What’s so special about that drink you’re keeping?”

When Caden remembered drinking the water Alicia had spat out, a wave of nausea hit him.

Truth be told, Caden wasn't even thirsty. He just didn't want Gerry to take the drink. What had been going through his head?

He put the glass on the floor and walked away without saying a word.

A waiter passed by and Gerry casually ordered a glass of water. Looking at the crystal-clear liquid, he felt confused. Why was this glass so clear, while Caden's was tinted pink?

Turning to the waiter, he asked, “Do you serve different types of water here?”

Seemingly perplexed, the waiter replied, “Sir, the only difference is the temperature, not the taste.”

“Really?” Gerry took a sip and licked his lips. The taste was nothing special.

So why was Caden so protective of his drink?

Meanwhile, Alice walked up to Rachel and said hello. Rachel didn't even say hello. It was like her mind was somewhere else.

Alicia followed Rachel's gaze and saw Randolph standing at the wine cabinet, selecting a bottle. Next to him was a woman. Although they weren't particularly close, their body language suggested an undeniable closeness. Anyone could sense that something was going on between them.

Raquel quickly snapped out of her daze when she noticed Alicia. She avoided direct eye contact and asked, “Mrs. Bennett, when did you arrive?”

“I just got here. You seemed upset, so I thought I’d stay with you,” Alice replied kindly.

Rachel tried to smile, but she couldn't and looked back at the couple sadly.

Realizing that Alice had probably noticed her discomfort, Rachel did not hold back. “She is an old flame of Randolph's. There is nothing between them now, but they have been very close. He often asks her for help. Today she came to have him choose the wine for her elders, and they have been together for quite a while now.”

Alicia didn't sugarcoat her response. “It doesn't look like they're just choosing wine.” Their body language told another story. They laughed and talked easily.

The two looked more like a couple.

Rachel's jealousy simmered beneath the surface, but her pride prevented her from making a scene. All she could do was endure in silence.

When the woman finally chose her bottle, Randolph pulled out his card and paid without a second thought. That was the last straw for Rachel. Unable to contain herself any longer, she walked over to them.

"Randolph."
