The Wannabe Warrior
Chapter 137

Zane POV

After we had eaten, I was feeling a lot better, my energy levels were rising and my outlook was better.

Dad suggested we go down to the dungeon and get some rage relief.

I think dad would love to punch Russel’s face because he has had enough of those people who he thought were trustworthy stabbing him in the preverbal back.

We entered the dungeon, and found the cell Russel was in. He was chained up to the wall with wolfsbane and silver chains. He was looking a little haggard for spending the night like this and having had nothing to drink or eat. It made me feel better inside, knowing this traitor had a hard night..

‘Hey, buddy.’ I said as I walked in. Dad and Jonathon waited outside to hear what was said and if I had managed to get him to drink the potion.

‘Zane, why have they put me in here?’ Russel asked with a croaky voice. Dry from having nothing to drink and from shouting most of the night to let him out.

‘Here, I have bought you a drink.’ I lifted the glass to his lips and he drank thirstily, not once questioning what was in the drink, he must be still thinking he was still safe and that we didn’t know he was a traitor.

‘Do you some more? I have had nothing all night.’ He complained to me, when the glass was empty.

‘Sure,’ I poured some more of the potion into the glass and he drank all that glass too. Madison said it doesn’t matter if he drinks a lot or a little, it will have the same effect, and we cannot over dose him. How that works is beyond me, but if Madison said it was okay, then who am I to argue with my mate? I have tried that in the past and found it is better to just trust her, as most of the time she is correct and I am wrong. To save myself from having to apologise for calling her out when she is right, I think it is better to just agree with her.

‘Thanks Zane, any idea why I am here?’ Russel asked again.

‘Nope, I only regained consciousness a little while ago. I have no idea what happened while I was out cold. Want to fill me in with what you know?’ I try to be innocent of all knowledge just to see what he would say.

‘We had a meeting about some Elders that are traitors and after the meeting we had a meal and after the meal, Ezekiel asked who was staying the night. I said, I was going to leave, and the next thing, I know I woke up chained to this wall, I don’t even remember how I got put in here.’ He said all of this in one long breath and he was all over the place with his face, not knowing where to look.

‘You did not do anything after the meeting and before the meal?’ I asked casually, still acting dumb.

‘I made a couple of phone calls.’ He replied sheepishly.

‘Who did you phone?’ I knew who, but he was being very cagey, and I wondered if Madison’s potion was working yet.

‘I made one for my mate. She is due to drop the pup soon, and I wanted to know she was okay.’ I felt bad for his mate. She would know soon enough her mate wouldn’t be there for the birth.

‘That was nice, how is she doing, and was she the only phone call?’ I asked compassionately.

‘She is doing well, the pup will be on time, part of why I wanted to leave. I felt I needed to be with her at the moment, she is very clingy.’ Yep. most women close to giving birth are, or so I am told.

‘Being close to birthing, I don’t blame her for being clingy.’ I said to him, still being friendly.

‘I phoned Emery, he was going to go to the Dark River pack and replace out why they had not been answering his calls. He was concerned about them.’ He at last said what I was waiting for.

‘Emery is close to the Dark River pack?’ Wondering who was part of the pack, that made him concerned, it must be more than his concern for the Alpha.

‘Yeah, his sister and mother are there, he was originally from there,’ this was news to us. We knew he was from there, but did not know he still had family there.

‘Has he told you anything, are they okay?’ I probed.

‘No, he has no idea, it will take a few days to get there. Maybe by the end of the week, he was on the other side of the kingdom when he started to get worried. Down near the Red Moon pack, I think’ and I remembered that pack was on the list that Madison had made.

‘That is Alpha Peter, and it is his second son, who is named Peter, the same Peter we were going to send to the Dark River pack, is that correct?’ clicking it all together.

‘Yes, Peter was over the moon, to have his son sent there, said something about having control of both sides, though I am not sure what that is about.’ His glazed eyes told me he was telling the truth, the potion working its magic.

Ezekiel had to link up with Mitch when he heard this news.

‘Mitch, are you back at the camp?’

‘Almost, we are close, another few minutes and we shall be at the camp,’ Mitch replied.

‘Put Peter in wolfbane and silver chains as soon as you can, he is part of another pack that is with Emery. Until I can trust them, please just chain him up.’

‘Consider it done.’ Mitch said.

I heard dad talking through the mind link to Mitch, knowing dad included me in the link so I would know what was going on.

Dad walked into the dungeon with Jonathon a step behind, both looking ready to finish this interrogation.

‘Hello Russel.’ Dad greeted Russel sickly sweetly.

‘Alpha, why am I in here chained up?’ He was still not getting it.

‘We heard you when you phoned Emery, we heard every word you said.’ Dad answered calmly as he watched Russel.

Russel’s face paled and he looked at me, but I had put on a confused look, then he looked at Jonathon and he pissed himself. The smell was unpleasant, but he knew he was done for now.
