The Wannabe Warrior
Chapter 139

Zane POV

Jonathon was a master in the dungeon and torture. Over the years, he had become immune to the cries and pleas for mercy. He told me once, that losing his mate did that to him, the way she had died, made him a harder man to his enemies.

He had Russel singing all his secrets out, and that new potion Madison made works a treat. Jonathon had removed a few fingers and toes, before the canary had no more to sing about. I will say it again, Jonathon was a master to watch and the way he stayed so calm and controlled was nerve-racking, he showed absolutely no emotion about what was happening until Russel breathed his last breath, and then he let out a long sigh. Russel’s heart gave out. I guess he was not made of the stronger stuff. I have seen a few younger men, who I thought were weak last longer than Russel did.

We threw his body into the fire that we had going at the moment and I went to my room to wash up.

Reaching dad’s office, I heard him growling inside, so I entered without knocking, which I rarely do.

Dad turned to stare at me so fast I nearly fell backwards with the anger he had going on.

‘Talk to me dad, what is going on?’ I asked, thinking after what we gained from Russel, dad would be feeling a little better.

‘Graham and Mitch were attacked, bound and gagged, by our own royal warriors, guided by Peter, not all of them, but I can’t trust our own men anymore, and I am so tired of all of this, we still have to deal with the missing Emery and then work on the stuff we just got from Russel, all the while watching our back from our own men, Madison has a big clean up to do at the dark River pack and just when I think we are getting somewhere, I replace out our own men are against us.’ Dad growls lowly and menacing.

‘Not all of them dad, everyone had a bad apple or two.’ I tried to encourage him and then I thought of what he was saying and shuddered.

‘Dad is Madison, okay?’ I asked worriedly.

‘Madison is a war chief, remember. She saved Mitch and Graham and Peter is now dead. The Dark River pack is all gone too. It looks like they got some of the mine water and have drunk it, thinking it would make their scent gone, she has a big clean up to do, while having to watch her back, it can’t be easy over there at the moment.’ Dad sighs and I feel proud of my mate and remember what the image said.

‘Dad, can I tell you something?’ I asked softly, making dad look up at me questioningly.

‘Sure, son, you can tell me anything, I hope you know that.’ He said back gently, encouragingly.

‘When I was in the virtual world, where I was fighting Blaze, I met a lady. Well, I think it was a lady, she had a beautiful voice, but she was a white image floating in the air.’

‘You met the goddess. Son, you are blessed. What did she say?’ Dad said in awe.

‘Something about being special and letting Madison be free and blossom into who she is destined to be, and something about many gifts. I don’t remember it all, dad, but I got to let her grow and I think her being at the Dark River pack site is part of letting her grow. Well, I hope that is what it means.’ I am a little confused about what her words meant, but I am trying to let her do the war stuff that she loves to do.

‘You know, she has a healing gift?’ dad asked me.

‘Yeah, she healed me while I was in the virtual world. Blaze was confused by it and bit me again just to watch it heal. It was about then that he ran away. He lost it.’ I wanted to break down and sob as I think of what has happened since Madison arrived, all the back stabbing and the traitors she has uncovered. We would have been wiped out if she had not come when she had.

‘That is amazing, son. I can’t wait for all of this to be over. We have to look at who is going to take over the packs that have lost their Alpha. The retired Alpha’s we have sent to the packs are okay for temporary fix, but we need to look at the young men we have and see where we stand. That is after we finish weeding out all the traitors. I replace it hard to fathom that this has been brewing for so many years and if what Russel has said is true, we are going to remove a few more Elders and set new ones in place, all because of something my father did before I was even born.’ Dad is remorseful, that he could lose so much because of something that happened so many years ago.

‘We will get there eventually dad, any news on Emery yet?’ I asked, if Russel was right, he would still be a few days away, but I had hoped someone would have spotted him by now.

‘Nope, last anyone heard was he headed to the Dark River pack area, but nothing since Russel phoned him. I am not worried. I am sure. He would show up eventually. He only had six men with him. Surely they can’t take over Madison and Mitch, up there.’

‘Let’s hope not. I am tired, let’s head to bed, and worry about this later.’ I yawned, and headed out the door.
