The Wannabe Warrior -
Chapter 144
Madison POV
‘Madison, please stay here in the kitchen, we don’t want you out there fighting. You promised dad you would not fight if you did not need to, and it would make me feel better knowing you are safe here.’ Graham begged me, using the promise to dad as a way to replace my weakness.
‘You be careful, don’t be a hero, Graham.’ I pleaded as I gave him a hug, surrendering to his request.
Mitch, Zakery, Graham and a number of Blue River Warriors, headed to where the royal warriors slept. It was now five o’clock and most would still be sleeping and a few might be waking, though not out of bed yet, or so we hoped.
Graham reported to me after they had them all either in cells or headed to the fires.
‘Madison, we went into the rooms in little quiet groups, and jabbed them in the neck with the darts, they had most of them in the first ten minutes, due to them being asleep and did not react to our arrival in the rooms. I assumed they did not worry about us entering for a couple of reasons. One would be they might think we had entered to awaken the next group for patrol and the other reason was because they were the bad guys and did not consider we had worked out they were all traitors, or well most of them, we were not yet sure if they all were, until we questioned them.’ Graham was animated as he explained to me, what they had done and his thoughts.
‘The ones we missed, were either in the shower or doing other personal morning routines, and they took a little longer to track down.’ Mitch added after Graham’s excited report.
But by six o’clock all sixty were in the cells, bound in silver and wolfbane chains, tied to the walls in a standing position. Most were fast asleep, and would be for at least three to four hours. They had only killed three. These guys saw an opportunity to fight and were taken down quickly. Mitch had trained them all and knew their weaknesses and exploited that.
‘Are any awake?’ I asked, thinking we could start questioning them.
‘Yes, three guys that we hit over the head, when they stepped out of the showers, they should have woken by now.’ Zakary added.
‘Mitch, can you get the guys together and ask them after they have had something to eat, to start checking the other buildings, and warn them we are expecting Emery soon, to always stay in groups of ten to be safe.’ Mitch nodded and left the room. Most of the Blue River warriors were up anyway.
‘What do you want us to do? Madison.’ Zakary asked softly.
‘A bit of both. How many men will you have here?’
‘I have two hundred around the grounds, hiding and waiting for the word, fifty in the pack house helping your trusted warriors, and I can bring up another five hundred if you think we need them.’
‘The more the better, we need men to keep watch for Emery and his men. Although we know he left with six men, we don’t know if he has rounded up more allies and rogues to assist him, so the more out patrolling the better. Those fifty people are helping us. Do they understand what we are doing here? The clearing of bodies and burning them?’ I asked, wondering how much they actually knew of the situation.
‘Yes, they know not to touch the water. We have seen in the past what that water can do, and it was stupid of this pack to wash or drink that water, it may taste good, but it has a nasty kick later.’ He said, chuckling at the bad joke.
‘Then, I will leave you to decide how you will disperse your men. You know what we need. Thank you for your assistance in this ugly matter. Would you like to join us, after you have given your men tasks, in the cells for questioning?’
‘You are going to be down there?’ Zakary looked shocked by this.
‘Try stopping her from coming down.’ Mitch said as he walked back into the kitchen as Zakary asked this question.
‘Such a pretty and such a young lady should not be involved in that dirty job.’ Zakary said with conviction.
‘That maybe so. My Madison would not be left out of such things, she is a warrior and can handle the cells.’ Graham said proudly.
‘Give me half an hour to sort out my men, and I will join you in the cells.’ Zakary said as he got up from the table and headed towards the door.
‘Mitch, I will let Ezekiel know what is happening up here, I will be down shortly.’ I waved to him as he stood.
‘We shall go down now and replace who is awake and give them something pleasant to drink, it usually takes five to ten minutes to start working.’ Mitch took the bottles of potion from where I had left them on the table and walked out the door, taking Graham along with him.
‘Ezekiel.’ I called.
‘Madison, how is it going up there?’ I could hear his concern and worry and I think tiredness.
‘Do you want to link Zane and dad in this conversation so you don’t have to repeat it to them once we are done?’
I could feel Ezekiel having a chuckle at my request.
‘Hi.’ I heard from dad, Zane and Ryan say together.
‘Hi.’ I replied softly, it was nice to hear their voices again.
‘Tell us what is going on up there.’ Zane pleaded.
I filled them in with the discovery of the ten royal warriors and then the next lot not doing their patrols and other little things that led us to put all the royal warriors into the cells and that we were about to question them, also that Zakary was here too and had men out in the forest scouting around, looking for Emery, and other helping with the clearing out the final few buildings, were most likely take today and tomorrow to sort out up here and by then hopefully, Emery would have arrived, and a show down of sorts would take place.
‘We were going to contact you today to warn you of the royal warriors. Let me tell you that all seventy that I sent up there with you are all traitors.’
‘How did you replace out?’ I asked, surprised they had worked it out.
‘Journals written by the former Luna, going back to her high school days. There is some very interesting stuff in them. When you get back here, we can discuss it.’
‘Nice of her to leave you that information in writing.’ I chuckled, trying to make light of it.
‘What are you going to do with the royal warriors?’ Zane asked, concerned.
‘As they wake, we will question them and then slit their throats and add them to the fire.’ I answered coldly.
‘Good, we don’t need traitors brought back here. Be careful while you wait for Emery.’
‘Don’t worry, we have warned everyone, we thought he may have gained some allies or gathered more rogues, so we are prepared for him to arrive with more than the six originally told were with him.’
‘Good, I knew you would have things covered. Excellent work.’ Ezekiel praised me, and I blushed at the compliment.
‘Have a great day, and I will contact you when I have more news.’
‘Bye my love, can’t wait to have you back in my arms.’ Zane said with love.
‘I will contact you later tonight and we can have a nice chat before I fall asleep.’ I suggested lovingly.
‘Look forward to it.’ Zane gave me a kissy sound and I giggled as I broke off the link.
