The Wannabe Warrior
Chapter 172

Madison POV

Jacob came back at dinner time. He arrived with Linda, who wheeled in a trolley carrying dinner for two. I internally rolled my eyes at this.

Linda carefully set out the meal on the table, and lit a candle and made the meal look like an intimate date. She then bowed to Jacob and left the room.

After the door clicked shut, Jacob approached the chair at the table and pulled it out, indicating that I join him and sit in the chair.

I was not too happy about this arrangement, but I had little choice in the matter. Putting on a fake smile, I approached the table and sat in the chair Jacob held and he gently pushed it in and grabbed a napkin and flicked it open and laid it on my lap. He then moved to the other side of the table and sat down. He poured me a cup of coffee.

‘Would you like cream and sugar?’ he asked so sincerely, hope blooming in his eyes.

‘No, thank you, black is fine.’ Though a flash of disappointment swept across his face, so fast, if I had not been watching him closely I would have missed it.

Jacob placed the black coffee before me and then made one for himself, adding some cream, he then lifted the lid on the four dishes on the table, and grabbed a plate, and placed meat, potatoes and vegetables on it, and then poured some gravy over the meal and placed the plate in front of me.

‘Thank you.’ I spoke softly and tried to smile, and hoped it did not look like a grimace.

Jacob then filled a plate for himself and lifted his cutlery and started to cut up the meat. He took a bite and looked at me expectantly.

I picked up the knife and fork and leaned forward and took a big sniff of the food, and g*****d softly, making it sound like I liked the smell of the meal. What I was really trying to do was see if I could smell if a drug had been added to the meal, but Jacob fell for my act and chuckled at my g***n and placed another mouthful of meat in his mouth.

Jacob cleaned his plate and as he was eating the same food as me, I ate most of what was on my plate. He took my almost empty plate, and placed it on top of his empty one and then grabbed two dessert plates and cut into the chocolate cake. As he cut the cake I could see the red cherries. It was a very tasty looking cake. I was not a big cake eater, and waited for him to dig into his, before I took a few small bites. Jacob frowned at my lack of cake eating.

‘Not a cake eater?’ he asked, as he looked at my hardly touched cake.

‘No, I prefer cheese and biscuits to cake.’ I answered truthfully.

‘I will remember that. Maybe I can get some mixed nuts and fruit with the cheese. Would you like that?’ He asked as he grabbed my plate and ate the rest of my unfinished cake.

‘Yes, that sounds nice, thank you.’ I said, not sure how I should react to his tenderness he was showing, and wondered how much was real and how much was an attempt to get me to relax and trust them, which I know better than to give them trust.

Jacob got up from his chair and came to me, offering me his hand to take. Confused, I took his hand and he pulled me to stand, and he gave me a hug, holding me in his arms, and breathing in my scent on my neck and nibbling my ear. I cringed at his behaviour and gently pushed him back.

He allowed me to push him away and led me to the small sofa and sat me down and he squeezed in to sit beside me, he put his arm over the back of the sofa and across my shoulders and snuggled in to me.

We were facing the window, and together we watched the moon rise in the sky. It was a nice view, as it popped up over the mountains and shone brightly in the sky above. If I had been sitting there with my mate, then this would have been a very nice ending to a long boring day.

I tried to enjoy the scene before me, and pretend it was Zane.

After about an hour of just sitting, not saying a word, Jacob stood up and walked over to the door. Linda entered and removed the dirty dishes and wheeled them back out.

I noticed in the reflection of the window, while Linda was collecting the dishes, that Jacob had gone to my dresser and had seen the communicator on it, and he gave a smirk when he saw it. Unbeknown to him, the mic was picking up sounds in the room, and the second one that was in my jeans that Linda returned to me washed and clean, was on my clothing. I was keeping one purely for sound and if I needed to talk, I would mind-link, which they did not realise I could do.

Jacob came to me and kissed my head.

‘Sweet dreams Madison, thank you for a pleasant evening meal. I hope we can do this again more often.’ With that, Jacob walked out the door.

I sat there looking out the window for a while and noticed the red light going off from above the door, and I thought that was strange.

I was not feeling tired, so I sat there a bit longer, just looking out the window at nothing in particular.
