The Wannabe Warrior -
Chapter 183
Zane POV
Watching my mate in her war planning zone was a turn on, a bad time to think about that, but what can I do? When nearly everything she does, it makes me want to take her into my arms and k**s her till she forgets her own name and drag her to the nearest bed and make her scream my name over and over again.
Zeek so desperately wanted to keep talking to Madison about her mum, but she had little time to worry about bruising his ego when she turned him down and went back to her planning zone. Her mother was a sensitive issue and this guy just did not seem to get it, he was so focused on knowing more, and not how it appeared to others with his constant questions about Madison’s mother. That Madison had turned a cold shoulder to him and was talking to his mate about the rogues should have been enough for him to see his constant push for information was not wanted.
I feel bad, as I cannot recall what his mate’s name is, or if he even told us, I remember he said she was his mate and pointed out his children, but for the life of me I am blank with her name.
To my relief, Madison asked her a question and it included her name or the name she preferred to be called.
‘Peggy, how many men can you spare to come with me outside and make some traps? If the Blue River men show your men how to make and conceal them, do you think they can manage?’
‘Yes, I can give you as many as you need.’ She replied.
‘How about we start with, say, one hundred. We can have about ten men with two Blue River warriors. The Blue River Warriors can show them how to construct a trap and then they can go around making up more. The more we can make at the moment, the better. I think time was running out. We can mark each trap with a marker high on a tree, so your people will know where they are and, later, when this is over, can remove them for safety reasons, or leave them there if you wish for them to stay.’ Madison, shows on the map where she wanted these traps to be placed, which will help give warning of anyone getting close to the caves.
‘Time running out? What do you mean?’ Zeek asked, where Alex and Zakary were quietly taking in all that Madison had to say, and nodding their agreement.
‘Gladys already has men arriving in the town. Once she has amassed enough men, she will go hunting. Then our preparation time will be over. She doesn’t know Zane is here or the Blue River Warriors, and that is to our advantage. She only knows that I escaped and with those guards all asleep, she will assume you have assisted me, and she won’t be able to contact her spies, so she will be a little confused, as your people have not done this sort of thing before. She is playing with an unknown factor, so to my reckoning, she will come thinking she has the more experienced fighting men, after the ease she caught the two Deep Earth men before and how pliant they were.’ She replies not looking up from the map as she put more little discs on places she wants traps to be laid, and where some false markers should be placed.
‘When do you wish to start?’ Peggy asked softly, taking in all that Madison had done so far on the map.
‘Zane?’ Madison looked up at me, expectantly.
‘Now.’ I answered, getting a nod of approval from Madison and making me feel good about that, that she deferred to me, and not just shout out orders, and take full control over the whole situation. This made my wolf happy, and he growled in my head his approval, and I nodded in agreement with him.
‘Let me get some men together, what sort of equipment do you need?’ Peggy asked, getting deeper involved and, by the look of it, excited to be part of this.
‘Axes, ropes, shovels.’ I answered, knowing exactly what Madison was preparing and what traps she wanted laid. I could see her plan coming together, and it looked to be a good defence plan, well better than the zero plan they have here at the moment, collapse tunnels and wait. That does not seem like a good plan to me.
‘Then it shall be done. Come, let’s go to the first tunnel. I have asked men to meet us there.’ Peggy held her head high and she walked passed Zeek and headed to the waiting men in the tunnel.
Zeek growled lowly, but followed none the less.
Madison mind-linked me.
‘Watch your back, something is still amiss.’ she grumbled.
I understood what she meant.
This pack was nothing like Zakary or Alex’s pack.
Thinking of both men who at the moment were following us, and it seemed they intended to direct their own men to learn about the building traps and join in making the traps, as they, too, were interested in the defence plans Madison was creating, maybe for their own areas, Alex had some of his men learn when Madison organised traps outside his caves, but these men were not part of that crew and would need to learn too.
The two men did not get involved with what was being said or interacting whilst Peggy was talking to Madison. It was almost as if Peggy was the one running this pack and not Zeek.
Interesting, I thought, not many places have female Alpha, and that could also be why this place felt strange. The ladies of the pack seemed to be happy enough, the children ran around and played happily, so nothing was amiss, it was more of a feeling more than anything else, something was different and still hidden.
But what?
