The Wannabe Warrior
Chapter 60

Zane POV

After a restless night, I was on the hunt for Madison. I had seen Jonathon, sitting in the dining hall, chatting with dad and some other Alpha’s, so I knew she was up, somewhere.

I tried to sniff her out, but failed. I think she must have doubled back, getting me in a jumble, on the stairs, I feel like I am the worst tracker of all time, give me some cross overs scents and I am done, tracking is Madison forte, and I am proud of her for it, she would not have got lost with the mixture of scents.

I headed for the monitor room.

Gerome said she must have been in early, as he could see Madison had worked on some stuff, but was gone by the time he arrived.

Next place to check was the shed, and I found her scent strong and vibrant.

I did not expect to be used to test something on my leg. It hurt instantly and the effect of the silver and wolfbane was interesting, and I was surprised at the amount of pain it caused. If a rogue is scratched with those toenails, they might be distracted enough to take him down. I liked that idea, and have no problem getting my nails painted.

‘Hey sweetheart, you done? cutting me up?’ I asked, amused.

‘Yeah, for now, I might want to cut you up some more later though.’ She replies with a smirk.

‘I was talking to Gerome yesterday.’ I started casually.

‘Hum?’ she half started listening to me, while she started a batch of something.

‘Yeah, he said you were having trouble attaching a communicator or something like that.’

‘Yep, can’t get it to stick.’ She says, still adding what smelt like wolfbane, and that is most likely the only thing in here I recognise.

‘Have you thought of magnets?’ I asked, getting closer to a pan of something bubbling away, and I wanted to see if I could recognise the smell.

‘Wouldn’t get too close to that pot, Zane, it will put your sense of smell off for a few days. It is another experiment of mine. Though it would be useful if the rogues could not smell, I just have not thought of how to apply it yet. I don’t want our guys to have that issue.’ She giggles to herself.

‘Thanks.’ And I moved away from the pot.

‘Magnets, what do you mean?’ as if what I had said suddenly dawned on her.

‘Can you show me the size of the gadget you want to put on our ears?’

‘Sure, come to the monitoring room, I have made some.’ She put a cover on the pot she had just started and waltzed out the room, not looking back to see if I was following her.

I followed Madison back inside and entered the monitoring room. At the back of the room, on the table, are a lot of black dots no bigger than a small button.

‘Looks like we were followed,’ Madison commented softly, and I looked at the screen that showed the room we had entered to reach this hidden one.

Gerome turns the volume up on something and we hear my mum talking to some lady. I don’t recognise her.

‘I am sure he came in here; did you see where he went?’ mum asked the other woman and turned in a circle as if I would suddenly appear.

‘No, I did not see where he went after he headed down the hallway with that bitch.’ The woman answers flippantly.

‘Well, we can’t get him to take your daughter as his mate. If we can’t replace him, we need a person to take over my place that we can control, and you said had your daughter under your control and that she will do whatever you tell her to do, I need a meek and mild girl we can put in and once she is mated and my son’s mate, our agreement will stand, but only once we have your daughter mated to my son.’ Mum spouts out the hurtful words.

‘How are you going to get him to take my sweet girl as his mate, when that w***e is following him everywhere?’ the woman m***s.

‘That pheromone spray, we will get him alone in the theatre room and spray her with it, he won’t be able to stop himself.’ Mum says and I almost growled.

‘Come on, let’s go hunt him down and get him to come to the theatre room tonight.’ And the two leave the room.

‘Gee, man, now we know why she is being so nasty to Madison, she has someone else she wants as your mate, that she can control so she won’t have to give up being Luna.’ Gerome says.

I look at Madison, but she is not paying attention.

‘Here.’ Madison picks up a button and hands it to me. Acting as if she had not heard, but I know she had.

‘I need to get these in the wolf’s ears. Do you think the magnets will work?’ She handed over the small dot, not much bigger than the bugs we placed around the packhouse.

‘Magnets? Wow, Zane, you are a genius. That will work, Madison. We put a magnet on the communicator and the opposite pole in the ear will be strong enough to go through the ear lobe and attach, and should stay on the ear when shifting. Great idea Zane.’ Gerome suddenly says, getting all excited over the magnet idea and pulls out a magnetic strip, and starts working on it.

‘Madison?’ I call.

‘Hum?’

‘Can you come with me and talk, please.’ She lifts her head up to look at me and I see the moisture in her eyes and know she was hurt by mum’s words.

Nods her head and says bye to Gerome, who is madly working on the magnets and waves his hand bye.

I took Madison to our room and locked the door.

Madison had walked out onto the balcony and was waiting out there for me. I knew this was going to be hard but I just had to try and see if she had something in her bag of tricks that would counteract the pheromone spray.
