The Wannabe Warrior -
Chapter 73
Zane POV
I set off towards the mine site, while other warriors headed to the cave entrances. I was hoping that the advisor would be at the mine site and I would get the honour of ending his life, though I know I was not the only one who wanted that honour.
Every warrior had been sprayed with the scent neutralising spray, Madison had made a huge batch, along with all the other stuff she had cooked. How that girl found the time was beyond me. I had trouble keeping up with the changes she kept making to improve our chance of a win with a few deaths for us.
The forest had the usual sounds of birds waking up and singing in the trees as the sun rose in the sky. The sound was a reassuring sound, as we trotted as silently as we could, there was not need to run, as it would take time for the others to reach the furthest cave and get set up. Dad had sent some of the warriors off a good half hour before we left for the mines, giving our wait at the mine site less. The longer you are waiting for the go, to attack, the more chances of being seen and fighting start before the others are in place, dad tried to make each area have minimal waiting time.
The warriors around me were well trained. They consisted mainly of the Blue River Pack, Jonathon and Graham and Alpha Daniel, who were among the men trotting near me in wolf form. There was no way we could talk to Alpha, Daniel or Jonathon, to stay at the packhouse.
They never believed that they would ever have a chance to get revenge on the lost loved ones, only Madison kept saying she would replace them. They thought the rogues were long gone. Most likely dead, or that was what they had hoped, as rogues don’t tend to live long in the wild and alone, Madison had informed them that the advisor was one of the ones that killed her mum, and the chance for revenge was there.
They were not going to miss out seeing in the flesh that that man was dead and getting the closure they so desired and deserved.
The closer we got to the mine site, the worse the smell was, the smell of rotting flesh was overpowering. We had to endure the smell, as we could not move away from it, the wind was blowing it straight at us and the closer we got the stronger it became.
When we arrived at the outer edge of the mine site, Dad motioned for us to crouch down and wait for the signal that the others were ready.
We watched silently, and I wondered where the patrols were.
Gerome mentioned that no rogue had been sighted since one this morning and here. As we were waiting and so far not one patrol went by, no movement of any kind, just the rustle of the trees as the wind blew that stench towards us.
I think I heard a warrior or two throwing up, and I would not blame him. As the stench was terrible, and not everyone can stomach this type of smell, I, for one, can’t wait to leave this place.
I am hoping dad will close this place down once and for all. By that I mean, I want the tunnels to collapse, so no one can enter this place. If the Deep Earth pack don’t like the place and caution their children about coming near it, then closing completely by collapsing the tunnels would be a good thing for that pack, reducing the worry of curious children venturing in. My mind is rambling away, as I wait for the battle cry, I had nothing else to keep my mind busy and off the pending battle or my lovely mate I am missing so very much.
I see dad, crouched down with Jonathon and Graham, he is pointing to the container and they must be planning something. Maybe Jonathon will head to the container when we all storm the mine site. I watch as Graham and Jonathon make their way towards the container and hide behind some trees close by, and we wait some more.
In a mind-link, Madison calls me softly, maybe thinking speaking to me softly would not make me jump in surprise at the sudden sound, but I jump anyway and I chuckle to myself at the thought.
‘Hey, sweetheart, be safe out there.’ Madison says, and I can feel her love for me through the bond she has opened for me to feel.
‘You too, darling, do be too daring in there, I want to hold you in my arms tonight and k**s your body, from head to toe, checking every inch is not hurt.’ I whisper back and chuckle as I feel that she has sucked in a breath.
‘This place is amazing, Zane, the knowledge that they have here is fascinating. Hope you get to have a tour soon, you will be surprised at what they can do underground.’ Madison says, and I know she is trying to take her mind off the battle ahead, and I am okay with the pleasant distraction of my mate’s voice.
The word comes over the communicator, that the others are now in place.
Dad said loudly, Gerome had all his mics tuned to dad’s voice at that moment.
‘ATTACK.’
