The Wannabe Warrior -
Chapter 8
Zane POV
I stormed into the palace, determination written on my face and headed down the hallway, grumbling to myself as I marched to my father’s office. My anger was obvious, that the staff were ducking out of my way.
Father was on the phone when I entered, his head sprung up from his computer the minute I entered the room, his annoyance at my intrusion shown by his frown.
I sat down on the chair in front of him and crossed my arms as I waited for him to finish his call, and then his words to the person on the phone caught my attention.
‘Yes, they have arrived safe and sound.’ dad mused, ‘They have been put into the barracks and will dine with us tonight,’ dad looks at me, a smile on his face as he talks ‘They are the first to arrive, so we can accommodate them at our table, it will also give me time to get to know Madison.’ He nods as listens and I wish I knew what was being said, ‘Yes she is a lovely girl, and apparently my sons’ mate.’ Dad chuckles ‘Yes, I agree, that was a pleasant surprise.’ Dad nods again ‘Agreed, she will meet with Mitch tomorrow morning and go over the area we want her to start the search, if she is half as good as you say she is, then I expect we should be able to pin point some of the camps quickly.’ He shifts in his chair and glances at me again ‘Yes, my son is having trouble letting her go out and do her job,’ he laughs a heartly laugh ‘Thank you so much for thinking of us and sending the bus load here early, when we send her out tomorrow after the meeting with Mitch, I will send the lads out with her, I am sure she would be more comfortable to be out the first time with her own mates, and will add some of my men too, they will be more than enough to keep her safe, I don’t think the rogues are ready to attack yet, word is they are still gathering to the north, that pass cannot be crossed for another month or so, and my men are busy setting up traps for those coming that way.’ Dad sits forward and clicks something on the computer, ‘Yes, I have received the email, I will bring this information to the meeting in the morning, it will be of great benefit, we need all the help in working out who we can use to take lead rolls of small teams. And knowing that the beta has two children who were sent here, is an honour. Please let him know that we will try and keep the twins out of trouble. We did not think we would receive anyone of rank.’ Dad clicks something and I hear the printer start up. I got up and headed to the machine to collect what he printed. I missed whatever else he said as the printer’s room blocked the noise and what had been printed got my attention.
‘Dad, my mate is a beta’s daughter?’ I asked as I headed back to him reading the email we received, ‘That makes her brother Graham a beta too, and we have a gamma and a delta son here. Wow, that pack sent us the best they have alright. I bet none of the other packs send us a quality like this. That is one very special pack dad.’ I say amazed at who they sent and the rank and level of each person. Even my mate is a top female and can beat many of the male Warriors, reading this makes me get hard and I want to see her spar. I think she will be mesmerizing to watch, with her long legs and her, oh stop it, and get your head out of your pants, and back on the rogue issues, and why you came in here in the first place.
‘Agreed, son, we are very grateful Alpha has taken this task seriously; I am interested in seeing what the other packs send us as quality men. Also, you need to tread carefully with Madison.’ He looked at me sternly.
‘What’s wrong?’ I asked, feeling a little uncomfortable for some reason.
‘Madison is the only daughter of the beta who lost his wife when she and her brother were 6 years old.’ Dad states.
‘What happened?’ I asked, feeling for her losing her mum so young and marvelling that Beta and Alpha survived the loss.
‘From what I understand, The Beta’s wife and Luna had gone to collect their children from school, they were in town shopping and having a girls’ day out, and decided to collect them on the way back. Graham and the boys asked if they could go to their mates’ place and Graham took off with them, leaving only Madison. On the way home, a group of rogues attacked them. The Luna and Beta’s wife managed to kill a few of them, but the Luna and Beta were torn to shreds when they were eventually overpowered by so many of them. The beta daughter watched it all, since that attack, Madison swore to hunt down and kill those rogues. Madison also helped Alpha’s new Luna through her pregnancy and the delivery of their little baby girl. When they named the new baby, they named her after the old Luna’s and Madison’s, so we have a very protective pack behind that girl. Don’t hurt her son, take your time and get to know her, or you could lose her.’ Dad said the last part softly, and I cringed at my behaviour when they arrived.
‘Come, Son, let’s get to the dining hall, we have some good people out there to welcome them to our home and make them feel comfortable, not just Madison.’ My dad led the way to the hall. I was still pondering the phone call and how I was to process it all and still somehow get my girl. I was confused and lost and never thought trying to win my mate would be so difficult.
We left the office, my anger gone, though I still didn’t want my mate going out tracking, I could see it would be almost impossible to stop her, what with the loss of her mother and Luna and to have been a witness to her mother’s death. It must have been devastating.
The dining hall already had the men from the Blue River Pack, but no Madison yet.
I wondered if she would come to the dining hall after my performance earlier and I was worried I had ruined things. Dad sat beside me and told the Beta to move down a seat to make room for Madison. I was grateful that dad had thought of that. I am so nervous and hopeful she will turn up for dinner, that I am not thinking straight.
