The Wannabe Warrior
Chapter 94

Madison POV

The next day, I was up early, and grabbed a quick bite to eat. On my way out to where we would cremate the bodies, more snow had fallen over night and the bodies had a light dusting of snow on them.

We built a large pyre and began to throw the bodies of the men onto it. I was sad to see so many having fallen over the last few days to the sickness, not just in the contaminated water, but into the hands of the power-hungry men. These rogues had been duped so easily, having nothing to lose in the first place, and I wondered if we could do anything in the future for rogues that have become rogues through no fault of their own. Like a mate dying, or born as a rogue. Many were kicked out because a small pack infringement. This is something I was passionate about and would have to talk to Alpha at some point, to see if there is anything we can do for them, so they do not fall prey to men like Frederick or Samuel and the advisor.

Still no sign of Alpha Samuel or his beta, Zane said not to worry and so I am trying not to. But I have an uneasy feeling deep inside, that says he is close by.

I hope I can still smell him. I had not noticed when I saw Alpha Frederick, with all the different scents about, I was not paying attention.

The last of the men are thrown onto the fire and I chuck a few more logs on too, hoping what I have done will be enough.

It seems there is always something to do.

Slowly, the warriors leave the fire area and return to the tasks in the tunnels. I stayed a little longer, deep in thought as I watched the fire consume what used to be men. I wondered if they have mates and pups out there somewhere, and they are here supporting their Alpha, as they should, even if they knew what they were doing was wrong.

Shaking my head at where my thoughts had been heading, I left to head back to the horse and cart; we were returning as soon as this task was done, when I got a smell of something that should not be there. It was a sickly smell; it was not a rogue smell but was of a different type of decay. I cannot actually pin point the smell, I can’t say I have smelt it before, and the sickly faces of Alpha Samuel and beta Higgin jump out of the bushes in front of me with a sneer.

‘We have you at last, Madison, you have been a thorn in our sides, long enough, time for you to die.’ Samuel growls at me, as Higgin tries to get the jump on me.

‘We have you at last, Madison, you have been a thorn in our sides, long enough, time for you to die.’ Samuel growls at me, as Higgin tries to get the jump on me.

I mind-link Graham, that I need help, that Alpha Samuel and Higgin are here at the pyre.

As Higgin got close enough, I side stepped and kicked Higgin in the balls with all my strength and then knee him in the face, as he leans forward to grab his hurting manhood, and hear the satisfying crushing sound of his nose breaking as my knee connects with his face, and he falls to the fall, holding his groin, b***d pouring out of his nose and a look of pain spread across his face.

Samuel came at me, at the same time as I kneed Higgin’s face and punched me hard in the right side of my ribs. I felt intense pain and sucked in a quick breath, and felt a sharp pain that told me I had most likely gained a couple of broken ribs. Samuel’s hit was the hardest hit I have ever felt before, he must have put his whole force behind it.

I turned to face Samuel, he was sweating and looked pale. I figured the sickness had taken hold and he wouldn’t last much longer before he succumbed to it.

He was spending what little strength he had left to take me down.

He comes at me again, and I hit him in the face with my right hand, and he grabs my right arm on the follow through and yanks at my arm fast and painfully, making my shoulder pop out of its socket, and he punches me in the face. I managed to hold back a scream as I fell to the ground, my head spinning and I felt groggy.

While I am on the floor, I slide my hand into my bag and pull out a dart, and turned it carefully in my hand, the point sticking out between my pointer finger and the middle finger.

Samuel wipes the b***d from his nose, and sneers at me, ‘get up.’ He growls at me.

I struggled to my feet, my head spinning, my chest hurting like a b***h, and b***d running down my nose.

Samuel threw a punch at me. I managed to duck somehow, where I found the strength to even move was beyond me. I was fighting with muscle memory and lots of training, and at the end of my adrenaline, as I ducked under his arm, I jabbed the dart into Samuel’s thigh as I fell onto my knees and then onto the ground, unable to stay on my feet any longer.

Samuel fell to the ground, and he was out cold, and I rolled onto my back, taking in shallow breaths as I tried to absorb my pain.

Graham comes running to me with the Blue River warriors not far behind, and he comes to a skidding halt, when he sees me lying on the floor in some pain, but alive.

Higgin was still screaming and holding his stomach and Samuel was unconscious, his face bleeding and looked a little worse for wear.

‘Really sis, could you not have saved one for me, I have missed out on all the fighting.’ He whinges at me, as he comes over to check on my injuries.

‘Feels like three broken ribs, a broken nose and your shoulder needs putting back into place.’ He says in sympathy.

‘You took a beating, sis, but you won and are alive to tell the story. But wait till the boys hear how you beat an Alpha and a beta in a fight.’ He chuckles as he gently pulls me up and I fall into unconsciousness from the pain the movement caused. But not before I thought if they were not sick, I would not have beaten them or lived to tell the story.
