The Wannabe Warrior -
Chapter 97
Madison POV
The sound of a rhythmic beep slowly dragged me out of the deepest sleep I have had in a while, and that beep was starting to annoy me. I g*****d as I tried to open my eyes and a bright light made me shut them immediately.
A movement to my side, makes me open them a little bit again, and shut them.
‘Let me, dime those lights.’ A woman’s voice sounded softly to my left. She must have noticed me opening and shut my eyes quickly.
When the lights dimmed, I opened them and the movement to my right moved again.
I looked to my right and saw my mate trying to move away from me as gently as he could.
‘Hey.’ I say to him, and his concerned face softens.
‘How are you feeling?’ he asked, having climbed off the bed and was moving a seat over to the bed and holding my hand in one hand and shifting some of my hair from my face, leaning down and kissing my cheek softly.
‘Like I had been hit by Bruiser on a bad training night.’ I g*****d as I tried to make light of the situation.
‘Yeah, Bruiser can hit hard, that is for sure, but you are stronger.’ He nuzzles my face with his and whimpers softly.
‘How long was I out?’ I whimpered softly, thinking I was waiting time, when I should be out there helping get this mess fixed.
‘Eighteen hours, it is now six am, are you hungry?’ Zane asked hopefully.
At the mention of food, my stomach decided to rumble, Zane chuckled and the nurse who was hovering close by, left the room and I assumed she was going to get me something to eat or let the doctor know I was awake or both.
Shortly after, the doctor walked in, a smile on his face as he looked at Madison.
‘Hello Madison, I am, doctor Rex, you know you could just come and do a hospital inspection to see how we do things here, you did not need to go to all these lengths, just to check on how good my bedside manner is.’ The doctor said jovially.
I chuckle at his attempt at humour.
‘How can I be sure what I see at an inspection is really how you treat people? If you knew I was coming you would have made it all look spic and span.’ I joked back.
‘Alas, you are right, if I had known I was going to have an inspection, I would have put pretend patients in here and asked them to say good things about me. My secret is out.’ He chuckled as he played along, while he checked my vitals.
Zane sat there staring between me and the doctor, his face in bemusement.
‘How soon can I take her home? Doctor?’ Zane asked, after the doctor finished his checkup.
‘How do you feel Madison, feel like you could make it home in one piece?’ the doctor deflected the answer.
‘I would miss your fine company, I have just started to enjoy myself here, but if you are trying to get rid of me, already, then, if you take these bandages off of me and let me shift, I am sure I can convince my wolf to take me home.’ I joked back at the doctor.
‘You have been a fine patient, not one complaint all night, though I cannot say the same about your bed partner, he snores, not sure how you managed to sleep through all the noise he made.’ Laughed the doctor.
‘Me? I do not snore?’ Zane growls back indignant.
I laugh, along with the doctor, at Zane’s attempt to look hurt by the suggestion.
‘Then, I recommend you have something to eat first, then I will take off the bandages and let you out of here.’ the doctor beamed at me, and I knew I had just made a new friend.
‘Can you let the man outside the door; that Madison is awake and that we will return home shortly. Please bring an extra plate or two, so we three can eat together.’ Zane asked, knowing Graham would be pleased Madison was awake and that he could get home to his mate soon.
The door had only just closed and it was banged back open and in rushed Graham, a huge smile on his face.
‘Doc says we can go home after you have something to eat. Is that true?’ Graham asked eagerly.
‘Yep, with the help of my mate here, and my wolf healing, I am good to head back. I think Addison will be glad to have you home.’
Graham blushed and, for the first time, had no comment, to come back for me.
A tray of sandwiches arrived along with a sweet drink. We devoured the food and drank quickly. Neither Zane nor Graham had eaten since I was admitted into the hospital and now, I was awake and ready for home. They were famished.
On removing the bandages, I was healed, with no scare to show that I had even been injured.
We are lucky we have such great wolf healing.
