Alissa's

POV

"A week. I'm going to give you a week until I come back for you. Don't even think of running away, Alissa. My guards are watching you 24/7" Luke reminded.

"If in any case that you manage to leave and run off, I will not hesitate to do a mass search to replace you and I will replace you, Alissa. One way or another" he warned. I pursed my lips.

"I already told you. I'm not planning on leaving the Sol pack, your highness" I said.

Luke just gave me a look.

"We'll see about that" he said.

I clenched my jaw.

"I'll see you in a week" he said before turning his back on me.

"Your highness" I tried to stop him.

Luke turned back but I was swept off my feet literally.

Luke grabbed me by the waist as ge turned and held my wrist and placed his face by my neck.

I gasped as he breathed my scent in.

"Don't" he said

I gulped and I felt him tense up.

Suddenly, I smelled Griffin's scent along with Enzo's.

"Ali?" Enzo called out.

I felt Luke's hand tighten on mt wrist.

"And oh" Luke said.

"Just a quick reminder that you're mine. Mine only, Alissa" he whispered and I felt his lips brush lightly on my neck.

I shivered at his touch.

Then, he pulled away and got into his car without another word.

I gulped as I watch him drive away with some of his men.

Oh Luke.

"Ali"

I turned around and saw Enzo and Griffin still standing there.

"Hey, bud" I said and opened my arms for Enzo.

He came running to me and I carried him in my arms.

"The King already left but how come his men are still here?" Griffin asked.

I looked around to see about a dozen of Luke's men from the palace.

I sighed.

"Reinforcement" I simply said and walked away while holding Enzo in my hands.

"Well, isn't the King a bit too generous to a small pack like ours" Griffin commented as we walked.

"I wonder why" I said sarcastically.

Griffin gave me a curious look.

"Is everything okay?" Griffin asked worried.

I looked at him with pursed lips.

"No, not really but I don't need to tell you why it's not. I'd rather keep it to myself but I also didn't want to lie about how I was feeling" I said. "Alissa" Griffin said worried as he held my shoulders.

Almost immediately, the guards faked a cough in unison.

"Hands off" one guard voiced out.

Griffin removed his hands on me with a confused look.

I sighed again.

"I'm going to drop Enzo off at his parents. You should get going" I told Griffin.

He seemed hesitant but nodded anyway.

"I'll see you around" he said.

I nodded and we parted ways.

I brought Enzo back to his parents with the guards following me.

After that, I went back to my house and tge guards still kept following me around.

I didn't have any type of privacy at all.

I plopped down the couch and ruined my hair in frustration.

I hate this so much.

"Our mate is only worried about us" my wolf voiced out.

"This is out of line, Quinn. Even you know it. If he wasn't our mate, you'd admit it" I argued. Quinn was silent.

I scoffed.

So she does agree?

This is very obsessive of Luke considering he's the type who never actually cared for me EVER.

If this goes in for long, I will lose my mind even before he comes back which might be a good thing.

I mean, who wants a crazy person as a mate, right?

Definitely not the King.

Right?

I grabbed a pillow and screamed into it out of frustration.

It was a bad idea.

The door to my house suddenly burst open and the guards came rushing in looking around with much caution.

"Are you okay, miss Alissa?" a guard asked.

I was taken aback and embarrassed but I nodded.

"Just letting off some steam, that's all. Sorry" I said and showed them my pillow.

They sighed in relief and nodded.

Then, we all looked at the broken door.

"We'll get that fixed right away" tge guard said.

I chuckled awkwardly and nodded as they made their way out of my room.

I sighed and shook my head in disbelief.

I need a relaxing shower.

I went to the bathroom and prepared to shower.

It's been days since the worst rogue attack first took place in my pack.

In those few days, aunt Livi and Livi have come and go while Luke never really left.

Those few days were the most stressful few days in my life.

I couldn't do anything because Luke made sure I was 'recovering' from what happened during the rogue attack.

During those few days with Luke, I've come to the realization that he hasn't really changed.

He still always has to get his way no matter what and that's something that I knew would always be a problem between us.

The only thing that changed is the fact that he actually let's himself bw near me.

Well, it's not like he's got much of a choice.

Luke's wolf is a dom and wolves like his are extremely possessive of their mates more than any other male wolf.

Alpha, Kings, Princes and those of high positions normally have the most dominant wolves.

It's not very common for female wolves to have dominant wolves but there are always exemptions.

Aunt Livi is the best example of it.

Aunt Livi's husband has a very dominant wolf but aunt Livi's wolf is more of the boss.

As for me, I feel like Quinn is in the dominant side with other male wolves but when Luke came along, she definitely became submissive.

Personally, I wasn't like that at all so Quinn and I are both having a hard time agreeing with each other.

I sighed and stripped as I got in the shower.

Quinn and I need to replace a common ground regarding this matter.

And we need to do it fast.

It's only been like 2 days since I had an actual conversation with Luke in the kitchen of the Alpha's home and it was the longest conversation I've had with him without shouting and growling at each other. After that conversation, the Alpha and Luna came home so I felt relieved that the conversation didn't progress any more.

Then, yesterday, Lia came to visit in the morning and left in the afternoon.

Last night, Luke told me that he had to leave today to attend to some matters in the palace and gave me a week to stay here in the Sol pack and think it through.

I haven't even slept properly because of our first conversation.

'Go back with me to the palace. Let's make it work, Alissa'

Those words are now haunting me day and night.

For a moment, it felt like Luke was a completely different person.

But I shouldn't get too carried away by his words.

The first few days he was here, he looked like he wanted to bury me alive.

Now, he suddenly wants to make things work.

If that doesn't confuse anyone, I don't know what will because I for one am in complete and utter confusion.

I showered for some time so I can clear my head for a moment.

After that, I got dressed into a cropped sweater and sweatpants set and then I grabbed a few papers from the kindergarten.

Instead of going out and being followed by bodyguards, I just decided to work at home.

I was too immersed in work that I couldn't even keep track of time.

Until there was a knock on my bedroom door.

I stood up and opened it to see a bodyguard there.

"Miss Alissa" he said.

"Yes?" I replied.

"The King wanted me to check on you and also to ask if you've already had your breakfast and lunch" he said.

I pursed my lips.

I forgot to eat both meals.

"I'm assuming it's a no" he said and nodded before bowing and leaving.

I sighed and got back to my room.

I fixed the papers in my bed and set them aside.

Then, I went out of my room and saw the same bodyguard earlier in the living room.

"Miss Alissa, what would you like to eat for lunch?" he asked.

"Oh uhm I'm going to cook something up now" I said.

"No need, miss. We can buy anything for you. King's orders" he said.

I bit my lower lip.

"Can't I just cook?" I asked.

He shook his head.

I sighed.

"Chicken and pizza" I said.

The guard nodded.

"Have you guys eaten yet?" I asked curiously.

The bodyguard looked at me for a moment without answering.

"Nevermind. Can you order chicken and pizza that's enough for you guys and myself. I'm not going to eat unless the rest of you do too" I said with a shrug.

The bodyguard looked at me baffled but nodded and left.

I flopped down the couch and stared at the ceiling.

I closed my eyes and found myself in a forest.

I looked around then started walking north.

After some time, I found myself by a river and I saw my wolf, Quinn.

I approached her and she snuggled her head on me.

I smiled and caressed her back.

Then, there was a howling sound from the other side.

I turned to look and saw a black wolf with its fur shining so beautifully.

Suddenly, Quinn started howling as well at the sight of the wolf.

"Mate!" Quinn exclaimed.

My eyes widened as I looked at the wolf again.

Its eyes met mine.

Its green orbs staring straight into my brown ones.

Then there was a knock and I got back to reality.

I went to the door and opened it.

There were a couple of guards holding plastics of chicken and boxes of pizza.

I chuckled.

"Please call everyone else and get in. We'll all try to fit in my small home" I said and welcomed them inside.

They hesitantly went inside and called the others while I prepared the food and they helped me.

I sat on the couch while they refused to sit next to me and sat down on the floor as we ate together.

No one dared to speak so I did.

"Are you guys all guards or are some of you warriors?" I asked curiously.

They glanced at one another.

"Who are the guards?" I asked and half of them raised their hands.

"Who are the warriors?" I asked after and the other half raised their arms.

I nodded in understanding.

"Is the royal head warrior still uncle Rainer?" I asked.

They all nodded.

"And is the royal head guard still uncle Connor?" I asked further.

They glanced at each other again.

"No, miss Alissa. Captain Connor has retired when his highness was crowned" one said.

"Oh really? Who took his place then?" I asked out of curiosity.

They didn't answer immediately.

"Captain Axel, miss" one finally answered.

I froze.

Of course.

How could I forget?

"Oh" I said.

They looked at me with concern.

I'm pretty sure that they were most likely briefed about who I am already and that included being Axel's stepdaughter.

"Excuse me. I need to go to the bathroom" I excused myself and got up.

I went to the bathroom and shut the door.

My knees weakened as I sat down on the toilet bowl and held onto my knees for support.

I took a deep breath in and then out as I stopped myself from getting emotional.

Going back meant meeting them again.

After running away, can I really face then again?

Should I be apologetic or should I just feign ignorance?

After all, I think my absence didn't really matter to them.
