Luke's POV

I stared at the wall of my office and remembered how I saw my mate leaning her head on another wolf's shoulder.

My jaw clenched as I banged on the table and stood up.

I was fuming in anger at the thought of my mate being with someone else.

I massaged the bridge of my nose and I walked out to my office.

I didn't where I was going as I let my feet take me wherever.

Until...I reached the familiar of her room.

There were now guards guarding her room.

I didn't want her to leave unattended for a variety of reasons.

For all I know, she might meet up with that Kalil again.

I bit my lower lip as I reached for the door handle.

Then, I twisted and pushed the door open.

Once I got in, her scent filled my nostrils.

I looked around and mt brows furrowed when I didn't see her.

I headed to the bathroom and knocked but no one answered so I opened it and she wasn't there.

Where is she?

I rushed to the walk in closet and opened it but she wasn't there either.

"Fck!" I cussed.

The guards outside came rushing inside the room as my fist clenched. "Your highness-"

"She's gone. Find her and replace Kalil. Now!" I growled angrily.

Everyone dispersed immediately as I went to the room's balcony.

I didn't think she'd still leave knowing I have guards on her.

But she did.

She still did.

My jaw clenched as I jumped out of the balcony.

I need to replace her.

I might end up killing that assistant head warrior if I see him with her.

I ran to the woods and shifted midway.

I combed through the woods with my men.

"Your highness, assistant Captain Kalil is in the training hall with us. Miss Alissa is not with her" one of my men reported to me.

So she's not with him.

Then, where the hell is she and what is she up to?

We kept searching and I even went to her favorite tree but she wasn't there either.

Where could she have gone alone?

My men and I kept searching and searching and every time one reported to me that an area was cleared and she wasn't there, my heart dropped and I grew anxious.

Did something bad happen to her?

Is she in danger?

Did she leave again?

Ghad.

I can't take this anymore.

I reached the meadow which is the farthest area in the Palace territory.

Not far from here is the mountains which was the end of territory borders.

No one guarded this part of the territory because it was too far out but guards were stationed about half a kilometer from here to make sure that no rogues or hunters would get access to the territory.

I looked and sniffed around although it wasn't easy because of the scent of the flowers mixing with anything and everything.

And then, I smelled a faint scent of hers.

I followed the scent until I saw a figure lying on the ground.

I rushed to that direction and I finally saw her.

Her eyes were closed as she laid down on the grass.

I got closer to check if she was okay and she was breathing just fine.

She was just...asleep.

I sighed in relief.

"I've found her" I mind linked my men.

Then I walked over to Alissa's head blocking the sun from her face.

"Leave me alone" she suddenly muttered with closed eyes.

Was she dreaming?

"Get lost, Luke. I don't want to see you" she said and opened her eye.

I guess she wasn't asleep after all.

"What the hell are you doing here?" I mind linked her with a frown.

"I'm trying to relax. And you being here does not make me feel relaxed so do us both a favor and go back. I'm tired of arguing and fighting with you" she said and I stepped back as she sat up.

"I just want to be alone until the wedding takes place, okay? Atleast, give me that. You've already done so much so please. Please just give me a little peace until the day that I need to give myself up" she said and turned her back on me before walking away. I watched as she walked over to a tree in the middle of the meadow and sat there leaning her head on the trunk.

I wanted to get mad at her.

She doesn't have the right to talk to me the way she does. I'm her King after all.

But then again, I couldn't get mad at her at the moment.

I sighed.

I went back to the woods and searched for a change of clothes that the guards normally hid for themselves.

I found some, shifted to my human form and changed into it before going back to the meadow.

I stood at a distance staring at Alissa's direction.

We've always been like this.

So near yet so far.

No matter how hard we both try to fix our relationship, we also end up going back to zero.

I try, I do.

But it's not easy to forget how she had left in the first place and left me in the dark.

Then again, I always gave her a hard time and she had every right to leave if she felt miserable. And it's not like she knew I was her mate.

But if she did, would she still have left?

That's one of the questions I keep asking myself.

I didn't hate Alissa. I never hated her.

Not even when we were younger.

It's just that, I never learned how I should act around her.

I was stupid for giving her a hard time but I didn't know how else to act.

The only time we would get close, acknowledge or talk to each other was when we fought or argued.

Maybe that's why the only way I know how to reach out to her is getting on her nerves.

Maybe that's why she doesn't want me.

I sighed.

I sat down and stared at her from afar.

Then, the sky started to become gloomy.

I sighed and stood up to go to Alissa.

We need to get back before it rains.

I walked to her as she was leaning by the tree and I stopped ij front of her.

"What now?" she said annoyed.

"We need to go back. It's going to rain" I said with a flat tone.

Alissa opened her eyes and she looked up.

"I'll be fine. You should go" she said and closed her eyes again.

"No. I'm not leaving you here" I said sternly.

"Why? You're worried I'll run away again?" she said casually and my jaw clenched.

I was losing my patience now.

"Or maybe you're worried I'm the type to meet up with other men secretly" she said and she opened her eyes as she looked at me coldly. My brows furrowed.

"Tell me honestly, Luke. Do you look at me like that?" she suddenly said.

I was taken aback.

Alissa stood up and I could tell from her eyes that she was upset.

Angry even.

"I've never been in a relationship before. Never entertained guys romantically. Never kissed or hooked up with anyone" she said.

"Still it seems like whenever you see me next to a guy, you think that I'm betraying you" she continued.

"I'm not even the one who was once in a relationship and was once engaged before and you're mad at me for getting stuck in a storage room and leaning on someone's shoulder for barely enough time to take a nap?" she ranted. My brows furrowed.

"You know I was in a relationship and got engaged?" I said.

She stopped for a moment.

"And so what if I know?" she said.

"Who told you?" I asked with furrowed brows.

"None of your business" I said.

Then, she walked away but I caught her arm.

"What?" she spat.

"I can explain" I said.

I don't know who told her because a lot of people knew about it.

Alissa pulled her arm back.

"No need. I don't need your explanation" she said and walked away.

I came after her stopping her.

"Alissa" I said.

She glared at me.

I sighed.

"Won't you listen?" I said.

"Why would I? You never listen to me so why should I listen to you?" she said.

I shut up after she said that and she pulled her arm back again and she made her way back to the direction of the Palace.

I massaged the bridge of my nose.

This isn't how I wanted her to replace out about it.
