Chapter 31 Interrogation

When Maria woke up, she found herself lying on the thick cashmere carpet in her hotel suite.She'd hada good sleep this time.

The last thing she remembered before fainting was that she hadn't been able to make it to the bed.

"It looks like...everything is fine," Maria murmured to herself as she looked around the suite.

There was no trace of movement.

The only thing out of place in the suite was the phone lying on the carpet, which Maria recalled hadslipped out of her pocket earlier.

Maria had been suffering from narcolepsy for many years, so waking up on the floor was a normaloccurrence for her.

In fact, compared to other times, her slumber on the carpet had been comfortable.

After making sure that nothing had happened to her while she was asleep, Maria thanked her luckystars.

Then, she checked the time and found that she had been asleep for five hours this time.

Fortunately, she hadn't slept for more than twenty-four hours like a few incidents in the past.

Outside the French windows of the suite, the bustling night view of Sheffield could be seen.

After thinking about it for a while, Maria decided that it would be best if she left the hotel now while itwas still early and returned to the Jenkins family's home.

Maria left the suite quickly and entered the elevator.

The moment the elevator doors closed, the door of the suite opposite to Maria's opened, and anelectric wheelchair was slowly pushed out.

Sitting in the wheelchair, Anthony was expressionless.He didn't so much as turn towards the directionof the elevator.It was as if Maria's departure had nothing to do with him.

"Jack."

"Yes, sir."

"Inform the receptionist downstairs to delete my check-in record today."

"Er...Okay, Mr.Wilson."

Jack was a little confused.

Was this the reason why they had waited here for five hours? When Maria returned home, she foundeveryone sitting in the living room.

Bill and Julie both looked serious, while Vivian wore a scowl of resentment.

Lily, meanwhile, stared ahead with a faint sneer, as if she was waiting for a good show.

"Maria, come here."

Bill was the first to speak, and there was a hint of accusation in his voice.

Unnerved by the solemn mood, Maria walked forward and took a seat on the sofa.

Bill's eyelids twitched.

What an unruly village girl! How dare she sit down without being asked to? In his view, Maria's actionswere that of an uncivilized girl, but he didn't know that this could also be interpreted as being calm in atough situation.

"Maria, weren't you supposed to be with Anthony today? Why did you go to Yeez Entertainment andsign up for the audition of the Legend of Anne?"

While Bill asked these questions, the rest of the people in the living room fixed their gazes on Maria.

Julie’s eyes were filled with indifference and a hint of distaste, but Vivian stared at Maria as if shewanted to kill her.

"I went to Yeez Entertainment for personal affairs.I didn't sign up for the audition," Maria stated plainly.

But although she was telling the truth, no one believed her.

"Liar!"

Vivian hissed sharply, unable to stand it anymore.She was so pissed off that she forgot to maintain herbearings as the daughter of the Jenkins family.Her failure in the audition was already a big blow in andof itself, but the greater blow was Maria’s excellent performance.

Maria's confident and precise performance had instilled a sense of inferiority in Vivian.

How could it be? How could this country girl be better than her? This single thought seized Vivian'smind, making her hatred for Maria grow.

Earlier this afternoon, after Vivian left the audition, she had received a message from her friend Sallytelling her that Mr.Jackson thought highly of Maria, and that Maria was very likely to be cast as the leadactress.

"Dad, Mom, I saw Maria at the audition studio.She even tried on more than one costume of theheroine," Vivian said with a ferocious expression.

"It's been just a few days since she came to our home! How dare she lie to us? In my opinion, it's betterto send her back right now!"
