Chapter 34 Invitation To The Party

Unaware that there was a guest at home, Maria stayed in her room.She was browsing her phone whenshe received a message from Anthony.

"Miss Jenkins, there will be a party at Viton Hotel tomorrow night at seven.If you're available, could youcome with me?" Anthony asked so politely without sounding so pushy or bossy.

If Maria didn't want to go, she could easily refuse him.

"Alright.My schedule's not as busy these days anyway," Maria replied with honesty.

Since she took a break from conducting business in Heaven, she actually had much more time on herplate.

On top of that, Maria had promised that she would cooperate with Anthony for a year.She wouldn'tdeliberately avoid keeping her end of the bargain, especially since he asked nicely.

To make sure she would do well, Maria sent another message to replace out more.

"What kind of event is it? Do I need to prepare for anything specific?"

"It's just a small party.There's no need to worry.Although, I'll advise you to refrain from eating beforegoing to the party and enjoy the food they serve.I hear the chef is excellent."

As though he knew what was on her mind, Anthony gave her reassurance that he wasn't pressuringher for anything.

"Is there a dress code?"

Of course, Maria didn't want to miss any detail.She had several dresses in her wardrobe, but they wereso plain and simple that none of them could pass for an evening dress.

"Don't bother.You can come as you are."

Anthony settled the matter pretty quickly, then added, "You don't have to dress up for anyone.Just wearwhatever you like, as long as you're comfortable."

When Maria got his reply, her eyebrows suddenly raised.She couldn't help but think how powerfulAnthony was for him to tell her not to worry about what to wear.

After all, the only people who dressed casually at luxury events were either simpletons or big shots withunfathomable backgrounds.

Other than them, guests usually couldn't avoid those cliches.

"I see.Okay."

When she finally had all the information she needed for the party, Maria ended their conversation.

Thud! Thud! All of a sudden, there was an intentional knocking on her door.

Outside her bedroom, Lily spoke to her with a harsh voice.

"Miss Maria, there is a distinguished guest.You should at least come and say hello.It's commoncourtesy after all."

As a matter of fact, no one had informed Maria that a guest was coming over.

Nonetheless, Lily huffed at her loud enough for everyone in the house to hear so they would think thatMaria was impolite.

Despite her provocation, Maria simply walked out of her room and ignored the maid standing by thedoor before she went straight into the living room.

"Hello, Miss Hughes.My name is Maria."

Apparently, as soon as she got out of her room, Maria already recognized at first sight that the guestwas Patricia Hughes.She might be famous, but Maria actually knew her from a couple of years ago.

After all, Patricia was cast in a film adapted from one of Maria's short stories.

Although she only played a supporting role and didn't have many scenes, it was the biggest project shehad been a part of—thanks to the film being a huge success.

She even got a nomination for "Best Supporting Actress" at a national film festival and almost won thetitle.

Moreover, because of the nomination, she got appointed as a member of the Film and TelevisionAssociation.

"Oh, you know who I am?"

Patricia looked Maria up and down.

"You really are something else."

Her tone overflowed with arrogance.It was clear she wasn't as kind to her as she was to Vivian.

In her eyes, Maria was a sly, calculating girl.

Patricia was convinced that if a country girl like Maria could recognize a minor celebrity such as herself,then she was definitely eager to enter the entertainment circle and rise to the upper class.

The more she thought about it, the more she looked down on Maria.

"That reminds me, Maria.The female lead for the Legend of Anne has been confirmed.It's gonna beLyndsey Mosby.She recently won Best Actress award.It's a pity you didn't get the part."

Since she was currently in a good mood, Vivian sounded a little forbearing.

However, it was only to mask her insinuation of irony as if she was waiting to see how negatively herremark would affect Maria.

"I see."

Just like she usually did, Maria responded rather nonchalantly.

Of course, Yeez Entertainment would choose Lyndsey.

"Aunt Patricia, will you be able to arrange a position for Maria? Even walk-on parts like a maid orsomething like that may do.I'm sure she can pull it off."

Patricia waved a limp wrist.

"Oh, for sure! That's a piece of cake.I can handle that in minutes.Anyway, Vivian, prepare for aglamorous party tomorrow at Viton Hotel.I'll take you as my plus-one.Parties like this can help youexpand your network, you know."

After mentioning her invitation to Vivian, Patricia remembered that Maria was still in front of them.

She then shook her head at her.

"Oh, I can't bring you to the party, Maria.It's very exclusive.You know, by invitation only."
