Summary
Zen Striker: Never in a million years would I have thought I would be in this position. He couldn’t have just run off with a little girlfriend. No. He left me at the alter 5 years ago to not only betray me but all the hunters. The Cleaners put a target on his back, and I’m grappling with the feelings I once had for him. Can I accept what he is? Can I throw away my title as High Council for humans for him? Can I actually save his life from the very people I’m supposed to be fighting with? Whatever happens, I’m not sure if we can do this again. He broke my trust, and it’s going to take a hell of a lot to win it back. Avery Kirkland: She wouldn’t understand. It’s why I just left. I knew what her reaction would be, and she confirmed that by sinking a bullet in my chest 5 years ago. I was hoping her seeing me again would bring on some much needed conversation, but it’s not looking like it’s going to be that way. She also seems preoccupied with some crazy contest. I’ve saved her life twice, but don’t even get a thank you. I just hope I can tell her why I did what I did before either she or some other hunter ends me. How do I know this? Before all this, I was one of those hunters, and it’s exactly what I would do.
