I dropped my bag on the floor, and threw myself on the sofa and took off my shoes, my feet throbbing ,glad to finally get my heels off.

Gabe seemed to have disappeared, scoping the house out or so it seemed, maybe being nosey, I wondered, though he was a warrior from what I gathered from Lexi so maybe he was being paranoid and checking the house was in fact empty.

I figured he had been asked by Knox to make sure I was safe and obviously he had to follow orders of his Alpha. I walked to the kitchen to replace a drink as I heard his feet approaching the lounge “you want a drink?” I called.

“What you got?” He asked making me jump slightly not realising he was as close as he was, and he was now leaning on the breakfast bar.

“Not a clue, not my house” I laughed ” let me see, knowing Indie diet cola, or coffee, maybe some flavoured water if she’s on a health kick” I opened the fridge first and, as predicted, there was some cans of diet cola, as well as some bottles of strawberry and kiwi flavoured water. I offered them up to Gabe, “or there will definitely be coffee, she can’t survive without that” I added as an option.

He grabbed a can of cola as I grabbed water and headed toward the lounge again and flung myself down on the sofa. Gabe sat himself down next to me.

“you had a fun night chica?” He said with a smile as he opened his can of cola.

“Hmmm was different….” I laughed

“Yeah always fun watching your friend get her face near enough eaten by her newfound mate and forget you exist I guess” he joked, I couldn’t help but laugh.

“Well yeah that was certainly unexpected, but I’m happy for her. He’s a good guy though right?” I ask, realising I had chance to replace out about my best friends new mate from someone who clearly knows him well.

“Oh yeah Dan is one of the best, they all are really, especially Knox ” he winked.

I rolled my eyes at him before ignoring his reference to his Alpha ” you think Dan will treat Indie well though yeah?”

“Chica, she’s his mate, he will worship her, he couldn’t take his eyes off her tonight and that was before he even knew she was his mate! He will do all he can to make her happy, he’s a good guy anyway but knowing that’s his mate he will do whatever he can for her to make her happy, I promise” he did his best to reassure me.

“I’m glad, she deserves to be happy” I smiled.

“Her art work is amazing, I saw it in the dining room” he stated, nodding his head in the direction of the room.

“Oh yeah definitely, she loves to paint, we both do, spent many hours sat together drawing, or painting while gossiping, she’s starting selling her artwork too, her work takes over her house a little though” I chuckle.

“Ooh you paint too?” He questioned, I nodded in response

“Yeah though it’s not as good as Indie’s, did you see her bedroom? I did the mural” he looked visibly took back by what I’d said.

“Seriously? That is amazing Chica! I may have to steal you to come decorate my room” he nudged me with his elbow. And I laughed as I drank my water in silence, enjoying the praise for my artwork.

“Did they manage to cheer you up as Lexi said that’s why you all came out tonight?” He asked as he had a swig from his can.

Seriously why did Lexi feel the need to share that with everyone tonight? He was the second person to ask now.

“Not really but don’t think a few drinks with friends was going to fix it anyway, we still had a laugh” I said with a shrug, hoping that would be enough of an answer for him to leave it alone.

Gabe looked to me with a sad smile, “that bad chica?”

“Trust me you don’t want to know!” I smiled back.

“Well you could try me, if what Lex said was right and you were thinking of running away is true then s**t definitely not good ” I couldn’t believe he’d mentioned that, even Knox hadn’t mentioned that, I thought I’d managed to laugh that off, maybe he’d seen through it.

“Not got anywhere to go though it would be tempting trust me….” I sighed resting my chin on my hand which was leant by my elbow on my knee.

I felt Gabe reach up to tuck my hair behind my ear so he could see my face as he spoke ” if things are that bad you could always speak to Knox I’m sure he’d help you know? He’s going to be Indie’s Alpha soon now she is mated to Dan”

What? It hadn’t occurred to me that Knox would be Indie’s new Alpha, but it made perfect sense he would be seeing as he was the Alpha of her new mate. That meant she’d be leaving in a few days to be with him I would think….

I’d be losing the one thing that had been helping keep me sane, the one thing that knew what was going on with Anya and her cronies, what was I going to do?

Asking Knox for help was definitely not an option, Logan wouldn’t let me leave for another pack for a start, not unless I found my mate and that wasn’t happening, I didn’t want a mate I’d made that clear, my parents were here……

I was going to be even more isolated than I already was with Indie over at her new pack once she completed her mating with Dan and moved for good.

I felt tears threatening behind my eyes, I didn’t want to cry but before I could stop myself they were slipping down my face.

“Woah, Lilah, are you crying? Shit…” Gabe was across the sofa quickly, grabbing me into a hug “what’s wrong?”

“I…just…. I’m losing my friend…..” I stuttered, as I sobbed into his chest “she is……she is the only thing keeping me sane”I gasped. “The only reason I’m still here…”

I could feel Gabe running his hand through my hair as his other hand pressed me close ” will you talk to me Lilah? I want to help? “

I knew I couldn’t, if it got out what had been going on I would be in some serious s**t and Anya would make me suffer even more, I seemed to have no way out, I sobbed into his chest as I shook my head.
