Through the Eyes of a Fae -
Epilogue
Cade sat on the dank dungeon floor, staring blankly at the wall. How could he have failed? It was that stupid wench’s fault, Sara. In a poor attempt to save herself and her pathetic family. He was so close. He pulled his knees up and rested his chin on them. Through his closed eyelids, he saw a glowing light. Assuming it was dinner time, he lifted his head. Standing before him, was a transparent old man wearing a hooded cloak. Cade fell forward, bowing at the man’s feet. The master Man of the Grey himself.
“Cade, you have failed me, yet again. What good are you to me now? You have given the enemy an open window into our plans.” His voice sounded like gravel. It grated Cade’s insides.
" I can still turn this around, Master. I have contacts in the nobility. We can still win this.” The hooded man shook his head slowly.
“Now Cade. This is the end of our arrangement. I have gained something from this that you could never have given me.” In that chilling sentence, Cade knew he would never make it to trial. Fear gripped his heart. Looking up, the robed man reached for him, and Cade felt his very essence drain from his body. The robed man now stood, looking years younger and stronger, his pale skin glowing. Pushing his hood back, he had black hair, slicked back and ice blue eyes. Drew smiled coldly as the shell of what was Cade crumbled to the floor. He looked up, like he could see Kora through the walls, surrounded by her new family and love.
“You gave me leverage, Cade.”
