even come to a complete stop before I throw open the door and jump out, leaving it wide open behind me.

“Rose!” Dax flies out of the vehicle and is behind me in a flash.

“I’m back now. So you can fuck off!”

I slide my key into the cottage’s lock and turn it. Dax stands behind me and wraps his hand over mine.

“You know why I had to bring you home.” His breath fans over my neck, and my nipples harden despite wanting to hate him right now.

“This isn’t my home.”

I turn to face him. His dark eyes are there, waiting to capture mine and make it impossible to look away as they reach right down deep inside me and make me feel both exhilaration and a strange calmness all at once.

“You brought me back because you think you have some claim over me. Some right to say what I do. When you don’t. You have no right to anything. So go on,” I say, trying to sound braver than the churning that’s happening inside my stomach at the thought of being alone once he leaves. “You can go now.”

I turn back to the door, opening it.

“I can just go back out if I feel like it, anyway. This time without being spied on by your fancy car trackers.”

“You wouldn’t,” he grits, and his eyes are dark and stormy as I turn and glance at him.

“I might.”

Then I slam the door in his face before he can move and collapse back against it, my chest heaving.

Who the hell does he think he is? He storms into the bar, does his whole listening and caring act that he’s so good at, and then acts like a prize jerk and orders me to come back. No, make that, swings me over his shoulder and physically carries me back. Asshole.

I should go back out tonight. It’s still early. I can call a taxi. What’s the alternative? Stay in and drink alone? And it would serve Dax right for thinking he can boss me around. We aren’t at work now.

I head upstairs and pull my work blouse and skirt off, throwing them into the laundry hamper, then get a short black dress out with a skirt that swishes when I dance. I can call Jasmin. She might be up for hitting a club. Somewhere with strong drinks and music loud enough that I can’t hear my own thoughts. It’s exactly what I need. Dax knows nothing. The complicated bastard.

I take my time fixing my hair and touching up my makeup.

Damn it. He still has my phone. I gave it to him in the bar. Shit. Think. Think.

I can call on the cottage’s landline. I must have something with Jasmin’s number on somewhere. Some estate paperwork or something.

A loud, incessant banging comes from downstairs.

“Rose? Open the door.”

My skin prickles with irritation. “Go away!”

I’ve been inside awhile. Why hasn’t he left yet?

“Open the door before I break it down!”

I stomp downstairs to the door and rip it open so hard it’s a miracle it stays on its hinges.

“What?” I spit.

His eyes drop over my outfit and darken. “You’re serious? You’re actually going back out?”

“What if I am? It has nothing to do with you.” I’m trembling with anger, my fingertips pulsing by my sides.

“Don’t go.” Dax’s voice drops to a deep rumble, and the shine in his eyes makes my chest tighten. “Don’t go back out tonight. Don’t let another man touch you. Not tonight. Not ever. The thought is driving me fucking wild. Please…”

He sucks in a breath, looking to the sky with rapid blinks.

“I’m going to lose my fucking mind here, Rose.” He brings his eyes back to mine, and my breath stalls as he looks so deeply into mine it makes my head spin.

“Why are you doing this?” I grasp the door frame for support, my stomach clenching. “One minute your life is too fucked up. The next you’re fake-kissing me and buying me lap dances and telling me you think about me when you’re in bed at night. What do you want from me?”

“It wasn’t fake… The kiss. Nothing with you has ever been fake.” He screws his face up, pressing a thumb and finger into his eyes. “But I’m involved in some serious stuff. Stuff that you shouldn’t be anywhere near. You’re too good for any of it.”

Here we go again. I roll my eyes and step back inside, grabbing hold of the door. “Goodnight, Dax.”

“Wait.” He puts his foot inside the frame and pushes it back open. “Wait.”

The two of us stand, breathing hard, staring at each other.

Light blue meets deep brown once again.

Then his gaze drops to my mouth.

“Come here,” he growls.

He closes the distance in one stride, grabbing my face in his hands and backing me up against the wall before crashing his lips onto mine.

I’m pinned in place by his hard body, heat radiating from it as he angles my face and kisses me with a force that makes my knees buckle. If it weren’t for being pressed so tightly against him, I would be a puddle on the floor.

He groans from deep in his chest as he coaxes my lips apart. He slides his tongue inside my mouth, licking, sucking, and stroking me into oblivion. I should push him away. Tell him that I’m not letting him mess with my head anymore.

But I can’t.

Every nerve ending in my body is alive for the first time in my life, energy racing through my bloodstream as he groans into my mouth and nips at my lips with his teeth before sinking into the kiss again.

He slides his hands back from my cheeks and threads his fingers into my hair, his voice sliding over me. “Touch me, Rose. I need to feel your hands on me. Show me I’m not the only one in this.”

He opens his eyes and the hint of vulnerability he hides so well is there. It breaks any lingering resolve I’m gripping on to. With him, it’s lost. I have a pull to him that I can’t explain. It’s not logical. But it’s all-consuming, and despite the hot and cold signals he gives me, I can’t fight it any longer.

“You’re not…” I pant, our lips grazing each other’s. “You’re not alone. I’m right here with you.”

Then I slide my hands up over his chest, wrapping them around the back of his neck and pull him to me.

I kiss him back with everything, pouring out all my frustrations, all my energy I’ve spent fighting with him. I kiss him until I’m moaning into his mouth and arching away from the wall to get closer to him.

And he matches me, stroke for stroke, moan for moan, breath for breath, until I swear a part of each of us will always be fused with the other.

If a kiss ever had the power to end the world. Then this is it right here.

“Jesus Christ, I’ve wanted to kiss you properly for so long.” Dax tugs my hair, tilting my head back so he can pepper kisses along my jaw and to the sensitive skin beneath my ear. “It’s felt like fucking eternity, Rose,” he whispers in my ear, sending heat tingling through my core and making my already soaked panties wetter.

“Is that all you want? To kiss me?” I slip my hands down to rest against his shirt as he groans and kisses and sucks my neck.

“You’ve no fucking idea.” His lips against my skin send a vibration all the way to my toes until I’m balling the fabric of his shirt up in my fists and trying not to explode with pleasure as he continues kissing and sucking and groaning into my neck.

I push away the briefest flash of nerves. They don’t belong here.

Him. Here. Now. This is exactly where I am supposed to be. I know it.

“Upstairs,” I breathe as his lips return to mine and he kisses me again. He pulls back just enough to focus on my eyes with a questioning look. “I want you to take me upstairs, Dax. I want you to show me what you’ve thought about doing to me.”

His brows pull in for a second and then relax again as he searches my eyes.

His are exquisite. Not just deep brown, but a warm, rich golden-hued chestnut brown that somehow lightens and darkens, altering depending what mood he’s in.

I gaze back as he strokes my cheeks with his thumbs. Our frantic draw to one another pauses momentarily as he holds me in his arms, making way for something deeper, something we will never come back from. Something I want to run straight into.

“Are you sure?” His brow creases again as his whisper caresses my skin with the tenderness of someone I know I can give this to.

Gareth may have been my first. But that was just biology. A physical act. He never looked at me like Dax does. Like I’m the most precious thing he’s ever seen. He never held me like he can’t believe I am really in his arms. And his skin touching mine never made me feel like I would die if I were told I would never feel it again.

Not like Dax.

“You won’t break me,” I whisper, blinking up at him.

He searches my eyes one more time, and then he lifts me, holding me underneath the butt so I have to wrap my legs around his waist.

I don’t know how he makes it up the stairs so gracefully while kissing me as if he needs me to breathe. But he does. He carries me to my bedroom with his lips moving from mine to my neck, my collarbones, my jaw, my cheeks, and back again. Everywhere he can possibly reach in this position.

We get to my room, and he pauses, burying his nose into the hair behind my ear and inhaling.

“I’ve loved your scent since that first day I met you in my office.” He inhales slowly again. “Vanilla and petals. I’ve wanted it all over me. On my hands, my lips…” He kisses my neck. “My cock.”

I shudder as he lowers my feet to the floor and slides his hands up my legs, dusting the inside of my thighs and cursing as his thumb drags over the soaking lace of my panties. He takes his hand away and pulls his jacket off and discards it. Then he rolls his shirt sleeves up.

“I’ve wanted it fucking everywhere,” he groans, bringing his hand back to my thighs underneath my dress and slipping his thumb inside the edge of the lace, swiping it through my swollen skin. “Jesus, Rose. You’re so wet.”

I gasp as he places one hand against my lower back, steadying me as he continues his slow exploration inside my panties. His lips stay on my neck, kissing and murmuring about how hot and wet I am, and it’s all I can do to stay upright and not buckle at the intense throbbing that’s overtaken my pussy.

“Is this okay?” Dax asks with a low voice as he stretches the lace away from my skin and circles his thumb over my entrance.

I grab onto the front of his shirt for extra support. “Uh-huh.”

“I need to hear you say it.”

“Yes,” I gasp as he circles again and my thighs tremble.

“Good girl,” he breathes.

Then he pushes his thumb inside me, sucking in a sharp breath as I cry out and my body releases a new burst of wetness, coating it and running out onto his palm.

“Shit, that’s so fucking hot. You’re dripping all over me.”

“I know.” I tighten my grip on his shirt and moan as he circles his thumb inside me again, the sound of my arousal thick in the air.

He abandons my neck and moves to face me, looking at me with lust-filled eyes. Then he glances at something to the side and takes his hand back from inside my panties.

“Turn around.”

He holds my hips and spins me slowly, pressing my back into his chest as he moves us to face the giant mirror propped against the wall.

“I sent you this because I wanted you to look at yourself and see what I see… just how fucking beautiful you are.” He sweeps my hair back over one shoulder so he can kiss my neck, his eyes holding mine in the reflection. Then he uses both hands to slide my dress up until the black lace of my panties shows. “Look, Rose. See what I see when I look at you.”

My eyes lock with his as he slides his hand down inside the front of the lace and pushes one long finger straight inside me. I gasp and fall forward, but he catches me gently with one arm and curls his hand up around my throat, holding me in place as he watches me in the reflection.

I stare back as he kisses my neck. His shirt sleeves are rolled up, the thick veins in his inked forearms bulging as he finger-fucks me with delicious long, slow strokes which make my inner thighs tremble, and my legs grow weak.

“Look at yourself. Look at the way your cheeks flush when you feel pleasure. Look at the way the blood makes your lips darker as they part… as you moan. You’re the most beautiful woman I’ve ever seen, Rose.”

I swallow, my neck contracting against Dax’s hand, and he strokes his thumb over my racing pulse.

“I…” I gasp as he adds another finger and uses his thumb to rub circles over my clit at the same time as he quickens his pace and fingers me harder.

“You want me to make you come, Sunbeam?” He sucks on my neck, his eyes blazing into mine.

“Yes.”

I suck in a breath as he groans against my skin, holding me tighter to his chest, as he pushes his fingers deeper inside me, curling them until they connect with my G-spot and I cry out.

“Look at yourself. Look how fucking breathtaking you are.”

I drag my eyes from his and refocus on my face. I am flushed, like he said, my lips darkened and parted as I draw in a breath and hold it. My hair is cascading down one shoulder, and the skin of my bare arms and legs is pale and smooth.

And virgin.

My skin appears stark in contrast to Dax’s. Inch after inch of untouched, unmarked skin, wrapped inside two strong, muscular arms covered in dark ink, flexing as they work me. Controlling every sensation in my body. All at their mercy. His hand around my throat even has flowers and vines on it, and then there’s his neck, my favorite of them all… barely visible from his position behind me, except the tip of one feathered wing running up toward his ear.

He presses his lips against my ear. “Come on my fingers.”

I let go of the breath I’m holding in a rush and immediately suck in another as my body tightens, pressure pulling my core tight. I move my gaze back to his eyes as I shake and shudder.

“Soak my hand, Rose. Let me feel just how wet this perfect pussy gets when you let go.”

I moan, my eyes glued to his, and then I release, exploding around his fingers in a crashing wave as we stand in front of the mirror. Two people locked in a moment.

Moisture pricks at the corner of my eyes, and I blink it away as he continues fucking me with his fingers, drawing out every last drop of my orgasm as I ripple and pulse around him, my body sucking on him greedily, my wetness spreading onto my inner thighs.

Dax kisses my neck. “Incredible. You’re incredible.”

I whimper as the waves finally begin to subside. My body sinks back against his chest, tension leaving every muscle and euphoric bliss washing over me.

“Oh my God.” I take a slow, deep breath. “That was—”

“Good after so long?” His eyes close as he smiles and presses his nose into my hair. Then he inhales.

“No,” I murmur. “I mean… no one’s ever… I have… plenty of times, but just me… alone, I mean.”

Dax’s eyes pop open and pin onto mine in the reflection, his upper body tensing.

“Are you saying…?”

I bite my bottom lip. I said too much. I shouldn’t be mentioning my sexual past—or lack of it—when we are here like this. Together.

“Rose?”

“I just mean I’ve only ever orgasmed alone before.” My cheeks burn, and I attempt to turn my head, but Dax keeps it fixed in place with his hand still around my neck.

“No one’s ever given you an orgasm before?” His eyes are the most intense I’ve ever seen them.

I shake my head as much as his grip on me allows. “No.”

His brows shoot up. Then they pull low, making his eyes appear even darker.

“Dax? What are you think—?”

“I didn’t know,” he whispers. He slides his fingers from me and clutches my hip bone, turning me in his arms so that I’m facing him. Then he holds my chin with his other hand. “But now that I do…” He brushes some loose strands away from my face. “I’m going to make every single first one count.”

I frown as he kisses me on the lips.

“There’s only one first, Dax. And it’s already yours.”

He kisses my neck, at the same time as sliding his hand underneath my dress and cupping my soaked skin in his palm. I moan loudly, unable to hold back.

His voice rumbles against my neck as he slides his hand around to cup my ass.

“That was the first for my fingers. The next one’s for my tongue.”
