To Be Yours Again novel (Alec and Jenny)
Chapter 1019 Are You Saying He Could Be Acting?

Alec's expression shifted when he walked out of Evan's villa.

Alec didn't expect Evan to be so unwilling to let Dr. Gaarder check his injuries. He turned and said to the doctor, "I'm sorry. I'm making you stay in Bardoff City for a few more days."

"It's fine. It's been a while since I've been in the country. I could walk around the city for a bit." Dr. Gaarder didn't mind. He looked at Alec and said, "That gentleman seemed very resistant to my treatment." "Yes. But it has nothing to do with you. It's a personal strife between us," Alec said.

Dr. Gaarder smiled. He considered Evan's condition based on what he saw and said, "Although I have not performed a check-up on him, I think it's odd."

"Really? What is?" Alec halted his footsteps and looked at him.

"From the records you showed me, Mr. Clarke's injuries should be very serious. Even if he could sit in a wheelchair, he would not have been as animated as he was today," Dr. Gaarder said.

That instantly made Alec realize that there was more to this situation. When he told Jenny that Evan was afraid of being examined, he was only venting his anger. But now that Dr. Gaarder said it, Alec began to doubt Evan as well. Could Evan be putting on an act?

He asked, "Are you saying that he's not really seriously injured?"

"I can't make assumptions. It's just a possibility. I must perform a check-up on him before I can conclude anything." What if Evan was the one-in-a-million lucky survivor?

If Dr. Gaarder said it was a possibility, Alec thought it was definite.

Oh, Evan. He was just pretending, after all.

Alec began to suspect that Evan actually orchestrated Jenny's kidnapping. What would his motives be?

Alec thought of Jenny moving in with Evan. If he kept up the wheelchair pretense, Jenny would be by his side forever. That was probably his motive.

If Alec's speculations turned out to be true, that would mean that Evan was a conniving manipulator.

Alec couldn't let Jenny be fooled. He had to expose Evan's plot.

As he thought this, Evan was in his study. His expression was grim. "Investigate Dr. Gaarder. See if he can be bought over."

He could refuse treatment now, but based on Alec's character, he would not give up so easily. On top of that, Jenny wanted him to be examined, too. Evan couldn't keep refusing forever. "Alright, sir," Howard said.

"Do you think Alec has already found out?" He had already secured a doctor. It was hard not to be suspicious.

Howard frowned slightly. "Probably not. We've done everything very secretively. On top of that, we have the doctors from Bardoff Hospital covering us. There shouldn't be a problem at all."

Even so, Evan was worried.

At that moment, someone knocked on the door. Evan went back to normal and said, "Come in."

Jenny walked in and saw Evan and Howard. "Evan, I'd like to talk to you."

"Alright. Please go out," Evan said to Howard.

Howard nodded and left the study. But before he left, he glanced at Jenny.

Jenny went to Evan's side and said, "Evan, are you alright?"

"Yeah, I am. What do you want to talk about? Alec?" Evan asked. He could already guess what Jenny was going to say.
