To Be Yours Again novel (Alec and Jenny) -
Chapter 1055 Ignore Him
"Alec, I know you don't like Jenny looking after me, but you don't have to hurt me in this way," Evan spoke with sorrow in his eyes. Jenny instantly felt bad for him because he was injured while saving her. Nobody would want to be confined to a wheelchair if they had a choice.
"Jenny, how about you leave with Mr. Faust? Howard's around, and he can take care of me." Evan decided to "compromise" with a forced smile on his face.
However, Jenny would never leave him behind. She went up to him and wheeled him into the villa. "Ignore him. I'll send you to your room for a rest."
Soon, the two vanished from Alec's sight. He gritted his teeth, holding back the urge to pin down Evan and force the checkup on him. But he knew better than to do that.
Instead, he ordered the bodyguards to leave. Only he and Dr. Gaarder were waiting at the entrance. Half an hour later, Jenny finally exited Evan's villa. It seemed that she had helped Evan to settle down. For some reason, Alec felt bitter at the sight.
"Alec, what exactly are you doing? Even if you want a checkup for Evan out of kindness, you shouldn't go about it in this manner." As a doctor, Jenny understood Evan's repulsion toward medical professionals. Many patients who had sustained grave injuries develop trauma against checkups.
Alec felt aggrieved, but he had no way to air his grievance. "Jenny, don't you think it's weird for him to reject Dr. Gaarder's checkup?"
"There's nothing weird about that from the lens of psychology," she answered.
He fell silent after hearing her reply, and a moment later, he went straight to the point, "I suspect that he's faking his injuries. He's not injured at all."
Jenny looked bewildered, wondering if she misheard him. He turned around and said to Dr. Gaarder, "Dr. Gaarder, please repeat your analysis."
Dr. Gaarder nodded. Even though he was unaware of the dynamics among the three, he spared no details in his hypothesis. He argued that Evan's case was serious, which logically would leave him paralyzed in bed instead of making him a wheelchair user. Plus, a patient like him should be suffering from agonizing pain, a far cry from his spirited manner. Apart from Evan's inability to stand up from the wheelchair, he seemed normal otherwise.
Hearing that, Jenny understood that Alec wasn't fooling around, and she became pensive. "Dr. Gaarder, perhaps he's had a smooth recovery. What do you think?"
Dr. Gaarder didn't deny the possibility. "That's plausible. That's why it would be best for me to perform a checkup on him." The truth would only be revealed after a professional checkup. However, it was almost impossible to do so on Evan, given his strong resistance.
"Got it. Thanks, Dr. Gaarder." She nodded.
Alec sighed. "Dr. Gaarder is not going to be around Bardoff City forever. He's leaving today. That's why I brought him over. I didn't expect that..."
He did not expect Evan to do him dirty by calling Jenny home.
Jenny glanced at Alec, seemingly reading his mind. "Even if he refuses to comply, you can't force things on him."
"I just wanted to verify if he's really injured," he answered. Then, he added, "One of your kidnappers fell into my hands, and he's a foreigner. You should know what I mean by now."
