To Be Yours Again novel (Alec and Jenny) -
Chapter 1116 Not Interested
Upon hearing that, Jenny was truly shocked. She had deliberately waited there to replace an opportunity for Evan to take her to Duxdence, but before she could even mention anything about it, he'd taken the initiative to offer her an outing.
Seeing how she kept mum, Evan thought she was still upset and continued, "Jenny, I know you want to go back to Clusia, but...I really hope you can stay here. So, can you at least try? If after some time, you really can't get used to living here, then we can discuss going back."
Jenny came to her senses after a while and nodded in agreement. "Alright then."
Upon hearing that, Evan breathed a sigh of relief. Fortunately, Jenny didn't insist on going back. Otherwise, he really wouldn't know what to do. He didn't want to make their relationship too tense, and he knew that Jenny was the type to be persuaded rather than coerced.
"Let's eat," Jenny said. Perhaps because her mood had improved, she spoke to Evan with a bit more patience.
Evan didn't know Jenny's plan; he had even hoped that Jenny would get used to it there and eventually agree to stay. Unfortunately, he was destined to never see that day.
"You seem pretty busy lately. What are you working on?" Jenny asked casually.
Evan thought about it for a moment and didn't withhold anything from her. "After I left, there have been a few traitors among us that caused some trouble. I've been dealing with them."
Jenny nodded, not really interested in the specifics.
"Actually, I haven't taken any mercenary business in a long time. Now that I have my own company with my subordinates, it's not like before." Evan was worried that Jenny might be biased against him, as he knew she disapproved of doing illegal things.
Upon hearing that, Jenny was briefly stunned and wondered why he had purposely told her all that. She'd never shown an interest in any of his affairs at all.
However, upon looking up and meeting Evan's gaze, Jenny instantly understood the meaning behind his words. "Oh, is that so? That's great."
"Yeah. I'll slowly make sure everything is on the right track." By then, there would be nothing to hide.
Jenny smiled, but in reality, she was itching to ask Evan what he meant by "the right track." Was he no longer taking up the mercenary business but trafficking drugs instead? She hadn't investigated it thoroughly, but she could roughly guess what he was up to from the hushed conversations of the people on the island.
She didn't say anything because she knew that Evan wasn't benevolent or kind. Although he hadn't done anything to her yet, it was only because she had nothing to threaten him with. If she knew too much, it would be even more impossible for him to let her leave.
After dinner, Evan took Jenny for a walk by the seaside. Sometimes, Jenny felt that if she hadn't been forced to come, she would have really liked it there. After experiencing the busy life in Bardoff City, she could truly appreciate how rare these leisurely days were.
Unfortunately, the timing to enjoy something like this wasn't right for her. Standing by the sea, Jenny couldn't help but say, "The sunset is beautiful."
"Do you like it? If you do, you can see it every day from now on," Evan replied.
Jenny laughed dryly. Even if she could see the beautiful scenery every day, she would still tire of it. She looked into the distance and changed the subject.
"Why don't you like Olivia? She's pretty and loyal to you." Jenny thought that if Evan liked Olivia, they could be happy together.
"I'm not interested in her," Evan responded. His answer was straightforward, making Jenny feel helpless.
"Then what do you like about me?" she asked.
