To Be Yours Again novel (Alec and Jenny)
Chapter 1128 Is There Any Point in Pretending

Evan was one of the first to receive the news of Jenny and Alec getting together.

He couldn't quite describe what he was feeling. Naturally, he felt disappointed. However, he also found himself feeling relieved. He no longer fooled himself with the promise of hope. He had totally given up. He put his phone away and looked at Howard. "Let's go to the company."

"Do you want to take two days off, sir?" After Jenny left, Evan had not rested. No one could endure so much work without rest.

"I'm fine. If you're tired, you can get someone else to follow me around." Evan didn't feel tired. Working was the only way he could relieve the pain in his heart. Howard would never say that he was tired. He was just worried for Evan. But since Evan had made up his mind, he said nothing else and got the plane ready.

Three days later, after Gilbert hung up on a call with Jenny, he stood by the window, deep in thought.

He didn't like Alec before. In fact, he tried his hardest to stop them from getting together. However, he understood now that Jenny and Alec were fated to be together. No one could stop them.

He found that he was astonishingly calm. He was not as agitated as before when they got together the first time. Perhaps he had truly let go of Jenny and thought of her as his sister. No matter her decisions, he would support her as long as she was happy.

He sighed deeply, feeling at ease.

At this moment, his phone rang. He held it up and realized that it was Paul. He frowned.

The call ended quickly, but Gilbert's eyebrows were still tightly knit. He and Paul never contacted each other. If Paul called asking to see him, it wasn't good news.

Gilbert could guess why Paul wanted to talk to him. But he didn't want to go precisely because of it. He wanted no part in Marigold's affairs. He took no interest in them at all, but he still put his coat on and went to Paul's bar.

Gilbert pushed the door open. It was quiet in the private booth, a completely different atmosphere compared to the public area.

Only Paul was in the booth.

"Have a seat," Paul said.

Gilbert sat on the opposite, frowning slightly. "Why did you call me here?"

Paul sipped some wine and smiled. "What do you think?"

"I have no idea," Gilbert said at once. "I'm busy. If you have nothing to say, I'll leave." He hadn't even wanted to come at all. And now, seeing Paul like this, he regretted it even more. "Gilbert, we're both men. As men, we should at least be able to shoulder basic responsibilities." Paul looked at him coldly, his gaze frosty.

Gilbert didn't actually leave. When he heard that, he merely knitted his brow together. "I don't know what you're talking about."

"Is there any point in pretending? Why else would I get you here?" Paul asked with a smile on his face. He couldn't see why Marigold liked Gilbert. Paul didn't like him at all.

Gilbert's expression was turning sour, too. He looked at Paul, enunciating clearly, "I've already said it many times-the child in Marigold's body is not mine. And even if it is, I will not accept it!"

"You dare say such despicable words?" Paul was angry enough to deliver a punch. But he held it in as best as he could. After all, he was here to solve a problem, not pick a fight.
