To Be Yours Again novel (Alec and Jenny) -
Chapter 972 Who Do You Like?
Jenny was even more speechless at his reply and rubbed her forehead exasperatedly. "I don't want to be like a child."
Why would she act like a child when she was an adult? Although children were carefree and didn't have much to worry about, what was the point of avoiding reality like that? She couldn't really become a child again.
If Alec treated her like a child and she had to become an adult again when he left her, wouldn't it be tiring to constantly switch how she would carry herself?
"My point is, you can try to rely on me." Alec felt helpless. He didn't know how to express himself to Jenny. It was difficult to make her depend on him even for a bit.
Jenny didn't reply to what Alec said. "He isn't really anyone significant to me. Why would I rely on him?" she wondered.
In the restaurant, Alexandra silently ate her food. Christopher hadn't said a word since they entered the restaurant, and the silence magnified Alexandra's anxiety.
"Christopher, don't be too saddened. Although Grandpa has passed away, he must be watching you from above. If he sees that you're so sad, he'd feel bad about it," Alexandra said, trying to make him feel better.
Christopher remained silent, so Alexandra continued, "Besides, you still have me in the future. I'll always be by your side."
Upon hearing that, Christopher finally snapped out of his daze and looked up at Alexandra sitting right across from him.
As their eyes met, Alexandra felt a chill down her back. She thought she was overthinking it, but at that moment, she couldn't see any hint of feelings or emotions in Christopher's vacant eyes. "Actually, I've wanted to talk to you for some time," Christopher said.
"Let's eat first. Everything else can wait." Intuition told Alexandra that whatever Christopher was going to say, it was probably not good news for her, and she didn't want to hear it.
Unfortunately, Christopher didn't keep quiet just because she didn't want to listen.
"Let's break up."
Alexandra was stunned, and her eyes watered instantly. "What did you say?"
"This is on me. I got together with you to fulfill my grandfather's wish. He didn't want to see me single, so he introduced you to me, and I didn't refuse." Harvey's health had deteriorated greatly at that time, so Christopher couldn't bear to reject his grandfather's good intentions.
Therefore, he promised Harvey he would meet with Alexandra. He subsequently became her boyfriend so Harvey would stop worrying and recover from his illness. But in reality, he had no feelings for Alexandra at all.
Tears flowed down Alexandra's cheeks uncontrollably as she looked at the person in front of her with hatred, reluctance, but more than anything, sadness.
"Since you decided to lie to me in the first place, why didn't you keep lying?" She didn't care about Christopher's initial intentions when he became her boyfriend. As long as they didn't break up, everything would be the same for her.
Christopher sighed. "I'm sorry. I can't lie to myself."
The fact remained that he wasn't in love with Alexandra. He couldn't force himself to love her no matter what she did. Breaking up would be a better choice for them.
"Do you really not like me at all?" Alexandra started doubting herself. Was she really that bad? She and Christopher had been together for so long, and he'd treated her considerably well. She always thought he had some feelings for her.
Christopher glanced at her and could only say sorry.
Alexandra sobbed even harder at his apology. "If you don't like me, then who do you like? Is it Jenny?"
When she mentioned Jenny, Christopher instinctively frowned with a hint of displeasure. "This is between you and me; don't bring other people into this."
"Even now, you're still thinking about her, aren't you?" Alexandra continued to cry, but her eyes were filled with hatred.
