To Be Yours Again novel (Alec and Jenny) -
Chapter 983 Am I That Horrible?
Seeing how insistent Zack was, Gilbert didn't know what to say. "Since you insist, then do as you please. I've done my part and said what needs to be said. If you get hurt in the future, that's on you. However, there's one thing I can tell you clearly-I won't accept her. Of course, you probably don't care. So, please don't bring her to my house in the future. If you two are inseparable, then you don't need to drop by from now on either."
Gilbert's stance was clear as day, and Zack's face became increasingly grim as he took in his brother's words.
"Do you really not want to give her a chance?" Zack asked. He didn't understand why Gilbert, who'd always been nice and friendly to everyone, was so skeptical of Janet.
Looking at Zack with a serious expression, Gilbert said, "She doesn't need me to give her a chance. No matter what she's done in the past, I can ignore it, but I won't accept that kind of woman marrying you. Do you understand?"
He couldn't care less about such matters, but Zack was his brother. Unfortunately, Zack didn't understand Gilbert's reasoning.
"Why do you always do this? You break couples up just because you can't bear to see them get together," Zack said.
"What did you say?" Gilbert couldn't believe it. He thought his ears were deceiving him.
"Was I wrong?"
Zack didn't flinch and stared back at Gilbert squarely. "You wanted to break Jenny and Alec up before, and now you want me to break up with Janet. Is it because you can't be happy yourself, so you don't want us to be happy either?"
Gilbert was furious! The person before him right then seemed alien and unfamiliar. He couldn't believe that those words came out of Zack's mouth.
"I think I understand why Jenny doesn't like you. If it were me, I wouldn't like you either!"
Gilbert slapped Zack just as he was done with his tirade.
"Get out! Get out right now!" Gilbert fumed.
"Fine, I'll leave!" Zack shouted back angrily. He wasn't exactly someone who had a mild temperament, either.
Zack turned and walked out of the study, heading toward the kitchen downstairs.
Gilbert stood frozen in place in the study. He'd exerted all his strength when he slapped Zack, and he was still shaking from anger.
The worst thing was the damage caused by what Zack had just said to him. The words reverberated in his mind, haunting his thoughts.
"He said he doesn't like me. Am I really that horrible?" Gilbert started to doubt himself.
He always considered himself a big brother who took care of his younger siblings. But look at the state of things now...
It seemed that no one would listen to him anymore. First, it was Jenny, and now, Zack. Gilbert laughed bitterly. It seemed to him that he had failed as a big brother. Janet was cooking in the kitchen downstairs. When she saw Zack come in, she smiled and said, "Have you finished talking with your brother? It's time for dinner." "There's no point staying here. We're not welcome," Zack said, infuriated.
Janet was startled by how irritated he seemed. She'd never seen him that enraged in their entire relationship.
"Sorry. It's just..." Zack quickly apologized, realizing that he'd unwittingly snapped at Janet.
Janet didn't say anything and hugged him. "It's okay. I'm not angry."
Zack hugged her back tighter. "Thank you."
"Gilbert...how can I let go of such a good girl?" he questioned internally.
After a while, the two separated, and Janet gazed up to the second floor, not quite knowing what to say. "Um... What did Gilbert say?" she asked tentatively. Zack had calmed down by then. He decided to leave the villa with Janet. "It's okay. Let's go. We'll come and visit him another day."
"Okay." Janet nodded. She didn't ask what had happened and just silently followed Zack as they left.
