Chapter 375 Seek Revenge

Alex entered the smoke–filled lounge and took a seat beside Evan. He noticed Evan’s bruised

mouth and bloodshot eyes just as he was about to probe for information

He remained silent, opened his liquor bottle, and poured it into his glass. “It’s no fun drinking

alone. Let me join you,” he said, clinking his glass against Evan’s.

Alex finished his drink in one swift gulp and then poured another glass without a word.

After a long pause, Evan finally spoke. “You’re here to ask me about Caroline, aren’t you?‘

Visibly frustrated, Alex retorted, “Am I the type of person who cares about everyone but not his

best friend?”

Evan smirked. “Indeed, you’re not. However, that doesn’t mean you’re not curious.”

“Evan, I get that you’re in a bad mood, but your words hurt,” said Alex, frowning.

Evan placed his glass down, calmly staring at a spot as he casually stated, “I can’t forgive her for

what she did.”

“Are you still suspicious that Caroline was behind Jamie’s story being published?” asked Alex.

Evan fidgeted with his glass. “Hmm… I can’t understand why she let my mother ride the Ferris

wheel alone.”

Alex explained, “The Ferris wheel incident was an accident, Evan. You can’t possibly think

Caroline had a hand in that too, can you?”

Evan glanced at Alex. “I’m not that foolish!”

Alex felt relieved. Otherwise, Caroline might never be forgiven.

“When do you plan to visit her?” he asked.

Evan remained silent, picked up his glass, and took a large gulp. He put the glass down and finally

said, “Tomorrow!”

Alex’s eyes widened in shock. “Are you serious? Paige told me Caroline’s in a bad state!”

“I don’t care! I won’t let this matter bother mel” Evan declared before leaving the lounge.

Alex sighed, wondering if he had driven Caroline further away from Evan.

The next day, Neil arranged for a caregiver to look after Caroline after spending a night with her. As he

prepared to leave, he reminded Caroline. “I have to go to work, Carol. Call me if you need

Caroline nodded. “Okay.”

The caregiver, Mary Rabo, came in to offer Caroline some food after Neil’s departure.

Caroline sat up and declined. “I’m fine. I can eat on my own.”

Mary replied, “Alright, I’ll get you some water.”

After Mary left, Caroline removed the packaging from the chicken soup and forced herself to eat a

little despite her lack of appetite. She couldn’t give up because her children were waiting for her

at home.

Enduring the dull pain in her arm, Caroline scooped up a spoonful of soup and was about to take a

sip when the door suddenly swung open. She looked up and saw a man standing there, instantly

tensing up.

She wondered, “Why is Evan here?‘

The memory of yesterday’s tense encounter flooded her mind, making her feel suffocated.

Evan walked into the room, and Caroline placed the spoon down. “What is it?” she asked coldly.

Evan approached the bed, sat on a chair, and adopted an arrogant demeanor. “Don’t you owe me an

explanation about my mother’s situation?” he asked coldly.

Caroline’s movements came to a halt. She stared at him in shock. “Explanation? What have I done?

Evan’s expression grew even tenser. “So, you still won’t admit you kept my mother with you to

gather information for your revenge?”

Caroline was bewildered. “Evan, I didn’t know Jamie was your mother at first. How could I have

gathered information from her? Besides, I had no idea what happened between you and her!”

“Didn’t you replace out after I told you?” Evan questioned.
