The couple walked into the office together. Elizabeth was not bothered by the other people’s stares anylonger. They were

free to think whatever they wanted.

After all, she had grown accustomed to hearing those rumors about herself.

As soon as Matthew entered the office, he was swamped with work, answering unending calls beforeheading to the conference room for a meeting.

They had breakfast together on the way there, and she felt he was only hers for that short period oftime.

Propping her chin on her palm, she looked at the empty desk, thinking of how busy he typically was.

After letting out a sigh, she began to deal with her work for the day. In fact, her job was fairly effortless.

Around ten o’clock, Matthew had yet to return, so she went into the pantry and poured herself a cup ofcoffee, sitting by the window to sip it.

Later, Elizabeth took out her phone and planned to call Cody to inquire whether or not the people fromthe moving company had arrived. They planned to relocate some items from the old house to the newmansion.

Yet, Shelby called her at that moment. Pursing her lips, she answered the call.

“Hello?”

That night, she had already received a warning call from Shelby.

It seemed like Dominic was no longer hiding his feelings for her and had taken the initiative to contacther more

frequently. Maybe he had even talked about those things at home as well.

“Elizabeth, is it convenient for you to come out and meet me now?”

Glancing at the time, Elizabeth answered, “I’m at work. It’s a little inconvenient.”

In truth, she did not want to meet Shelby, as the latter was always harsh toward her. However, shecould not refute the woman either, so she felt immensely aggrieved.

On the other end of the line, Shelby sneered as she heard Elizabeth’s reply. “Are you afraid to meetme? Where do you work? I’ll apply for leave on your behalf.”

Hearing that, Elizabeth knitted her brows. Shelby sounded as though she would not give up if she didnot meet Elizabeth

today.

“Where are you, Mrs. Campbell? I’ll be there right away.”

After hanging up, Elizabeth sent a text to Matthew: Mr. Hilton, I’m taking a leave of absence. I have apersonal matter to

Then, she got up, returned to the office, and packed her belongings before rushing downstairs.

Half an hour later, she arrived at the café. When she pushed open the door, she spotted Shelby seatedby the window,

dressed in fur. At the same time, the latter greeted her with a wave of her hand.

Elizabeth walked over and sat across from Shelby.

“What would you like to drink?”

Casting a brief look at the water in front of her, Elizabeth replied, “No need. I’ll just drink some water.”

Shelby did not say anything else as she gracefully took a sip of coffee. Her well–maintained face waswrinkle–free, and she

appeared much younger than her peers.

While setting down the cup, she caressed her own hand.

The rings she wore were very beautiful. Despite the fact that she had two rings on one finger, it did notappear awkward

but rather elegant.

“Elizabeth, Dom has expressed his desire to marry you, but we will never agree. How much money doyou want to be

willing to leave him?”

Having said that, Shelby took out a checkbook and a pen.

“You can tell me the amount or fill it in yourself.”

As she spoke, she tore off one check and pushed it in front of the woman across from her..

However, Elizabeth only gave the check a cursory glance and smiled indifferently.

“Mrs. Campbell, I’ve told you before that Dominic and I are merely friends. I’ve never thought aboutmarrying into the

Surringtons, nor will I take your money.”

Shelby’s face clouded over when she saw Elizabeth shoving the check back to her.

“Elizabeth Wade, I know you’re pretty capable and can even handle the Hilton family. It’s no surprisethat Dom is completely smitten with you, but please let my son go now that you’ve established arelationship with the Lowens.”

Elizabeth’s heart twisted slightly the moment she heard that.

It was excruciatingly painful to be misunderstood by others.

“You’re right I’m currently in a relationship with Matthew, and he’s the one I want to marry. Hence, youdon’t have to worry about anything You should keep the money for Dominic’s future wife.”
