Trouble in Paradise (Arianna and Nicholas) -
Chapter 0324
"Since you've already talked to Silas, I'm sure you know that Pete's case is rather complicated. It's not something you would be able to solve by acting affectionately in front of Harry!"
I understood what Nicholas was trying to say. But what else could I possibly do to help Pete? So, I put on an innocent expression and looked at him.
Nicholas' infuriated expression was slightly funny. I jumped down from the sink and walked up toward him. Standing on my tiptoes, I placed a gentle kiss on his jaw and asked, "Then will this be enough?" Seeing that he hadn't moved for a long time, I stood on my tiptoes again, but he gently moved back to dodge my advances.
I shrugged. "I can see that you don't want to help me anymore."
Without waiting for an answer, I walked past him and prepared to leave. However, he quickly grabbed onto my wrist. Nicholas narrowed his eyes as he felt a wave of anger surge within him. "What do you plan on doing?"
"I'll go talk to Harry. Since you won't be of much help, I'll just have to think of another way."
Nicholas scoffed. "What plan could you possibly conjure up?"
As someone who had lost a child, I understood the pain that came from losing one's child. "Don't they want some compensation? Pete should not bear that responsibility alone."
I slowly loosened Nicholas' grip from my waist and said gently, "I'm also partially to blame for the entire issue. After all, Pete was doing all that for me "
Before I could finish my sentence, Nicholas pinched my chin, effectively silencing me. The pain spread instantly.
Nicholas' eyes turned red, and his tone was ice-cold. However, his eyes were shockingly gentle. "Marcus got what he deserved. He was the one who had hurt you.
"Pete was just helping the Heavens with justice. Who knew what kind of demon he'd spawn?"
I looked at Nicholas in confusion as I never expected him to say something like that. But no matter what happened, that child was innocent.
Feeling my feet grow cold as a chill ran through my body, causing me to shiver.
Suddenly, I realized that if Pete had not caused any trouble for Marcus, perhaps Nicholas would have probably done something even more drastic to the Shelmans.
No matter whether I had divorced Nicholas or not, Marcus hurting me was like a punch to Nicholas' pride.
I heard the woman outside scurrying to replace a waitress, so I quickly took the chance and left the bathroom.
Harry was still sitting at our table when I returned. He greeted me with a smile and said, "Ariana, Nicholas was worried about you and afraid that you were feeling unwell. So, he said he wanted to check up on you. "Are you feeling alright?"
I nodded with a small smile, and I could feel some warmth returning to my cold face.
"It is nice to have someone by my side as we can always take care of each other. I wonder if Pete has any plans on marrying. Does he have a girlfriend yet?"
My tone had been filled with curiosity as I asked that question. It did not sound inquisitive, but more like a family chatting about their relatives' love life.
The second I asked that question, Harry and Nicholas' expression morphed into one of awkwardness.
But as our elder, Harry would not expose the truth in front of Nicholas despite knowing the fact that I was speaking nonsense.
"I found Pete a good family to marry. However, their family isn't in the country. Their daughter has also been getting to know Pete for some time.
"They seem to be a good match. So, I'm planning to let Pete go abroad. I want to let them spend some alone time together and get married sooner.
