Trouble in Paradise (Arianna and Nicholas) -
Chapter 0423
Chapter 0423
I felt slightly dazed the second I received those divorce papers.
After getting into my car, I looked through the papers carefully, examining Nicholas' handwriting. Although the strokes weren't as sharp as before, it was undeniably his handwriting and signature.
I wondered what circumstances had caused his handwriting to be so messy.
A sudden indescribable scene flashed across my mind. I would much rather believe that he had signed the papers under extreme annoyance. That explanation would be much easier for me to accept.
Yasmine's call interrupted my train of thought. She said, 'I heard from Douglas that you're back in town. You've been so elusive lately that even I can't get a hold of you."
I laughed. "What's up? Did something happen?"
Yasmine laughed along. 'Are you free to meet? There have been some developments regarding that thing that you asked Leo to help you keep an eye on."
"Is that true? Did everything go smoothly?" I asked the driver to head to Jay Caldwell & Co. and told Yasmine, "I'll head over to the law firm right now."
"Things haven't been going very smoothly. The place is secluded and Leo tried following them multiple times, but he always ended up losing them."
"They've been doing this for a long time now, so of course they're careful with their movements. There's a high chance that even their driver had been professionally hired.
"Tell Leo to be careful and not to get caught. We don't want to alert them and scare them off." Yasmine's voice turned solemn as she said, "But it wasn't a total loss as we did gain something. I'll tell you about it when we meet.
The entire car ride was silent as I thought about how Nicholas had been so persistent in choosing Claudia. Perhaps I should prepare him a "gift" on the day of our divorce.
I couldn't imagine what his expression would be like when he saw my "gift". Would he replace our divorce to be thrilling, or would the truth of Claudia's personal affairs be much more thrilling instead?
At that moment, I had yet to realize that I was no longer able to control my emotions ever since he had severed all ties with me and disappeared from my life.
Throughout the past few days without him, he was still him. Yet, I was no longer the woman I used to be...
When I arrived at the law firm, Yasmine poured me a cup of tea. I held it near my nose to smell it, but I did not take a sip.
"The tea leaves were very expensive! Try it!" Yasmine strongly recommended.
I couldn't help but laugh as I placed the cup back on the table and said, "Let's get down to business." "Your taste buds are so picky. I can't help but wonder who spoiled your palette, Yasmine complained in exasperation, but she was immediately filled with regret as she wished she could take her words back.
Although she knew Nicholas through me, she wasn't exactly friends with him. But even so, she also knew Nicholas loved drinking tea. Hence, she knew I had tasted a large variety of teas when I was with Nicholas.
I was slightly exasperated as I said, "Don't take it to heart. I haven't been sleeping well, so drinking tea might just cause my insomnia to worsen.
"We even drank rainwater together when we were young. Do you think that I wouldn't want to drink your tea?"
I picked up the teacup as I spoke, wanting to take a small sip. But before I could taste it, Yasmine stopped me and said, "I wasn't overthinking anything. Why are you still drinking the tea if you have insomnia?"
Then, she took the teacups away and handed me a thick envelope. "Take a look at it. It's all in there."
"Will Leo be safe if I do this?"
"He'll be fine. As you know, he's an illegitimate son, so his relationship with his dad has always been tense. Even though he's been recognized by his family, his father still despises him.
"If he doesn't make the first move, who knows how many more years will he have to endure? He also wanted me to tell you that he isn't doing it for you but rather for himself."
I weighed the envelope in my hands and said, "Regardless of his motives, I'll still owe him for this. If he ever needs my help in the future, he only needs to ask.
"Alright. I'll let him know."
I flipped through the photos and frowned. All of the photos had been taken in secret, and after some enhancements, the faces of the people in the photos could be seen clearly.
The man in the photo was Nelson, a man who was about to enter his 60s. On the other hand, the woman in those photos was Claudia who had just entered her 20s.
Yasmine joked and said, "Claudia sure has some special tastes in men. She refuses to get with people her age and runs off to be with an old man instead. Do you think she has daddy issues?"
I looked at the photo and felt my body grow cold. Claudia wasn't the one with daddy issues. The problem here was that Nelson had a particular fetish.
If we were to be exact, Claudia's age did not fit his usual preferences. However, her height and weight was exactly his type.
After everything that had happened, I finally understood why my mom had stopped my father and refused to acknowledge Nelson as my godfather. Turns out, she had known all along...
It turned out that my mother had protected me more than once without my knowledge. I had even fought with her over Nelson's matter in the past. Suddenly, I felt a lump in my throat and I quickly suppressed my emotions.
I continued to look through the photos Leo had sent me, and there were all different pictures of Nelson and Claudia being intimate with each other. "No matter what, these photos are all I need."
