Trouble in Paradise (Arianna and Nicholas) -
Chapter 0455
After talking with Yasmine for over three hours, I finally left Jay Caldwell & Co.
Douglas handed me my phone, looking a little uneasy. "Ms. Jones, your phone has been vibrating non-stop."
"Oh?" I took the phone and checked. There were 48 missed calls.
I calmly gripped the phone and said to Douglas, "It's fine. Just take me to the hospital. I haven't had my injection today."
Douglas didn't object. As he went to get the car, I stood alone by the parking lot, lost in thought.
I never imagined Nicholas would call me, nor did I ever think there would be so many missed calls from him on my phone one day.
Just two months ago, I couldn't even get in touch with him. Every time I called, it was Claudia who answered.
I was indeed a bit angry back then. How could any woman stay calm if a man who was in bed with her disappeared abruptly? And on top of that, a new life had come into the world because of him.
As I was thinking, the phone in my hand vibrated again. I looked down at the phone. It was his 49th call. Suddenly, my eyes welled up. From the first call until now, it had been exactly three hours. I had spent countless nights waiting for him, clutching my phone, and hoping for any word from him. I had waited through many of those "three hours", just like he had today.
If he weren't sick, I would love to ask him what it was like to wait in agony like that.
Taking a deep breath, I brought the phone to my ear and softly said, "Nicholas."
On the other end of the phone, Nicholas released the fist he had been clenching tightly and felt a sense of grievance when he heard my voice. He thought I was refusing to answer his calls. Pinching the bridge of his nose, he fought back the stinging in his eyes and cleared his throat. "Ariana, where are you? I need to talk to you about something important."
Just hours earlier, he had ordered
the driver to take him back to Jones Corporation. But by the time he arrived, I was already gone. He had completely lost his dignity at the
reception desk.
Even when he harshly demanded to know my whereabouts, everyone just shook their heads, claiming they didn't know. Meanwhile, more and more people gathered around at the front desk. The receptionist had managed to get through to Douglas, but he had simply said I was in a meeting and hung up.
Back in the car, Nicholas curled up in pain, every second of waiting unbearable. Now, hearing my voice, he felt like he had come back to life.
We had only just parted, and now he was saying there was something urgent. The only answer I could think of was that Claudia had whispered something to him again, making him change his mind.
Douglas's car slowly pulled up in front of me. As the door opened, I said to Nicholas, "Whatever you have to say, let's save it for court."
Nicholas let out a deep sigh, his
raspy voice thick with pain. "Ariana, even if we're divorced, can't we at least meet like friends? There are some things I need to tell you face
to face so you can understand how I
feel"
QUMS
I pressed my lips together. My voice was hoarse as I replied, "Have you ever seen a divorced couple stay friends?"
