Little Gary was also shocked by his mommy's suggestion, "Did Mommy discover this little demon's true colors already?" He couldn't help but wonder about it. He gazed at Grace.

She smiled at him in return. Deep down, she was beginning to suspect Maria, considering how she loved spending time with Little Gary, but became so frightened at the mere sight of Heinz.

It seemed like an instinctive fear towards adult men such as Heinz.

Perhaps, his presence would make her go to bed earlier.

"Alright then, Mommy, we'll leave Maria to you and Old Heinz. Well leave now," Little Gary purposely said while staring at Maria, who still didn't want to lift her head up.

Suddenly, she lifted her head unexpectedly and quickly shouted," Don't go, Little Gary! I don't want Uncle and Aunty to accompany me. Can you two brothers stay here and accompany me instead, please? I'm really pitiful."

This little girl was really eloquent with the way she made herself sound so pitiful.

Grace exchanged glances with Heinz. It seemed like the whole family was in action to deal with her now.

Maria was such a cheeky girl, and she dared to call herself pitiful.

She was hilarious.

"Alright." Little Gary said, "Ernest and I will stay here to accompany you since you claimed to be so pitiful then. However, you have to promise that you will close your eyes and try to sleep without talking. Otherwise, we won't be accompanying you anymore. As a pregnant woman, my mommy needs more rest, whereas Ernest and I are children, so we can't stay up too late either. The most capable person to stay up would be Old Heinz, so perhaps he would be the one accompanying you until you fall asleep."

Upon hearing what he said, Maria tried to secretly look at Heinz in a timid manner.

He happened to be looking at her as well so the both of them stared at each other. Immediately, Maria lowered her head and said, "Okay, I understand. I promise."

After that, Heinz held Grace's hand as they walked towards their bedroom.

They communicated for a while, which made Grace realize that something was indeed a little off with Maria.

Nevertheless, she could not help but think that everyone might just be overly sensitive about it and that they shouldn't have thought of a little girl like that. Perhaps everyone was just overthinking. As such, Yvonne called at the perfect timing.

She sounded anxious and apologetic on the other end, "Mrs. Smith, is everything alright there?"

"Don't worry, Maria is doing quite well." Grace immediately tried to reassure her, "You don't have to worry about her."

"I'm anxious and worried because of you guys and not Maria," Yvonne answered apologetically. "Did Maria cause trouble in your house?"

Grace was taken aback. "What did you mean by worrying about us?"

"To put it this way, Maria is very good at adapting to her situations, which is why I wasn't so worried about her. However, I was really worried that she would put you guys in a difficult position. You must have thought that she was behaving weirdly, right?"

A mother knew her daughter best after all.

After being stunned for a while, Grace responded, "Madam Attwood, did you mean that Maria would actually try to trick people intentionally?"

"You've found out already?" Yvonne exclaimed, "I knew she was a troublemaker, but I didn't think that she would dare to do it since it was her first time in your house. I can't believe that she really made your lives difficult after all."

"No, no, don't worry," Grace answered. "She didn't cause a lot of trouble. The only thing is that she loves talking so much as if she can't even stop for a moment. If we stopped talking, she would start crying almost instantly."

"It's all an act," Yvonne said, "She's just pretending to cry so you don't have to be bothered. Just leave her in the room and everything will be fine."

"Ah, I don't think that's necessary. Both my sons are accompanying her now as she seems to like them more than me." Grace laughed about it. "I was really surprised at how intelligent Maria is though." "Oh, please don't mention it. I felt too embarrassed to even bring it up to you just now," Yvonne answered. "Sorry, it's really a hectic day for me today. I truly seek your kind understanding. I have to hang up the call now, I'm sorry."

"Don't worry about it," Grace comforted her again. "Rest assured that you can entrust Maria with us here."

"I'm assured. I'm sorry again." Yvonne hung up the phone.

She hung up so suddenly as if something just took a turn for the worse.

Grace felt puzzled about it.

It looked like her Yvonne knew that Maria was an intelligent, cheeky little girl after all.

Grace stared at Heinz. "It looks like the three of you was right after all. Little Gary and Ernest discovered Maria's secret too, and her mommy said that she would always pretend to cry."

"Wow," Heinz was shocked at first, but he shrugged it off after that. "Her mom is quite honest though. Is it because she felt bad regarding how naughty her daughter could be, that's why her conscience guided her to finally tell us the truth?"

"Don't put it that way." Grace slapped his back. "It's really difficult for her to raise such an intelligent child on her own. You have no idea how exhausting that can be."

Heinz understood Grace must have recalled her own experiences with the way she stood up for Maria's mother.

He sighed and apologized. "I know that you thought of your past. I'm really sorry about it." "It's probably harder for Maria's mother than it is for me, considering how I had Alice's help while she's all alone," Grace sighed. "She must have encountered some kind of tricky situation today, and that's why she had no choice but to leave her child with us for the night."

Yvonne had indeed encountered a tricky situation.

She actually managed to run into the most important man in her life at work that day.

At that moment, she was hiding in the toilet to give Grace a phone call. However, she didn't expect that man to block her in front of the toilet door.

"Yvonne Attwood."

Yvonne hung up the phone. She was really frightened, but she still tried her best to calm herself down.

One, two, three.

She secretly waited for three seconds before opening the door to replace the handsome man outside.

"Mr. Lowe, this is the women's washroom. Don't you think that it's inappropriate for you to be here?" Yvonne looked at this man nonchalantly while doing her best to sound as calm as possible. Zachary narrowed his eyes as he looked down at her. He noticed that she clenched her fist, which hinted at how nervous she felt, and yet she was still pretending to look fine.

He knew that she was used to pretending at all times.

For his entire life, he felt that he had always been good in abstinence, and yet this woman had stolen his chastity.

He felt extremely uncomfortable about it.

Even worse, she left and never met him again after having slept with him.

It had been five years before they finally met that day.

It looked like God was fair after all since he finally managed to replace this woman. He demanded an explanation from her to replace out why she left after spending the night with him. "Yvonne Attwood," Zachary spoke word by word.

"You still haven't answered my question yet."

Ever since they bumped into each other by accident that night, she had been hiding from him every time he tried to approach her, acting as if they were strangers to one another. Six years ago, they spent a night together on a private yacht in Southland. That night, she gave him everything.
